As soon as he started his own HS I knew he wouldn't be playing college ball.  I would expect him to take the LaMelo route.

Hopefully he returns to…

Hopefully he returns to those stupid Dr. Pepper commercials.

Well deserved.   Not sure…

Well deserved.   Not sure who would beat him out.  Maybe Mark Few?

Totally agree.  Most people…

Totally agree.  Most people who are highly paid don't need the $.  Don't want to give any reason for JH to look around if the NBA comes calling (and they will).

Agreed.  Loy is a ND slappy,…

Agreed.  Loy is a ND slappy, but Wiltfong usually spot on.

Too bad for him, especially…

Too bad for him, especially in such an abbreviated season.

Serious question:  Is…

Serious question:  Is Dickenson a "one and done" NBA guy or does he stay longer.  In my limited NBA knowledge he doesn't fit what the league is looking for.  They want 5 shooters on the floor.  That's why Andre Drummond has no value.

It's a fair point about end…

It's a fair point about end of game fouling, which slants the end statistics, but it was even throughout the game.

I think it is ok to give the officials credit when there is a well played game with good flow.

Yes I think it was a well…

Yes I think it was a well called game.  I happen to have officiated a lot of basketball and appreciate the difficulty of the job.  All partisan fans can look at specific calls that they disagree with and there will always be a bad call either way.

OSU committed four more fouls (17-13) and UM shot 11 more free throws (24-13) so I don't think there is a lot to complain about, especially for a road game.

In the end Michigan was the aggressor, especially on the boards in the second half which led to the disparity in the foul statistics and in the game outcome.

I do think the Michigan cemented their #1 seed status and OSU acquitted themselves well and should be a #2 if they don't fall apart.  It was one of the more enjoyable games to watch I have seen this year.  But IMHO I don't think the officiating played a major factor benefiting either side.

I agree that it was a well…

I agree that it was a well called game.  They let a lot go, but it helped with game flow with two physical teams.

Dickenson was the difference in the second half as OSU doesn't have a big center that can match up (Key is 6-8).

I do find it ironic that mgoblog users are criticizing another fanbase of complaining about officiating.  That is a national pastime around these parts.

Give them some credit, they…

Give them some credit, they could beat Nebraska... at home.... maybe?

I hear the Lions have an…

I hear the Lions have an extra third to burn this year.

So Michigan athletes that…

So Michigan athletes that want to play should be treated like drunk drivers... got it.

Pretty sure that happened.

Pretty sure that happened.

No offense Pope, but I have…

No offense Pope, but I have trouble with the drunk driving analogy.  Students wanting to go to school or play a sport shouldn't be compared to people willfully breaking the law and putting others at risk.

At some point in society we need to have the honest discussion that every lockdown decision has tradeoffs that have real consequences.

He drafted Patrick Mahomes…

He drafted Patrick Mahomes and Baker Mayfield for their respective clubs.

He was still let go from both because some of his other decisions were suspect, including head coaching hires in Cleveland.

He was set up pretty well to succeed in Cleveland with a trove of high draft picks and a clean cap sheet.

His experience should serve the Lions well, but it's not like he's batting 1.000 on personnel decisions.

Any room for Ernie Harwell?

Any room for Ernie Harwell?

I hope they pay out faster…

I hope they pay out faster than my fantasy football league.

I figure he is going to play…

I figure he is going to play for his dad this spring, but maybe that isn't a thing anymore.  Perhaps someone can shed some light on deadlines.

Their 3 year starting left…

Their 3 year starting left tackle came back for another year and so did Ruckert (TE).  They have the number one HS running back coming in.  Their offense should be good as long as the qb isn't a total dud.

Their defense should have the same struggles though.

Hopefully some of that four…

Hopefully some of that four million Harbaugh gave up can go towards getting the right assistants in place.

The switch to a 3-4 would be…

The switch to a 3-4 would be a big shift as bigger defensive linemen are needed to run that scheme.  Also some current DEs would have to move to OLB.

Will be interesting to see who is moved where.

Man amongst boys.

Man amongst boys.

The back to the basket…

The back to the basket center seems like a dying breed in the NBA.  Maybe Dickinson will stay to develop move of a perimeter game.  Good move for both sides.

And bunt like Jake Taylor.

I'm beginning to think that…

I'm beginning to think that this Juwan Howard guy really knows what he's doing.

Jets beat two playoff teams…

Jets beat two playoff teams in the past few weeks.

Thought Juwan would recruit…

Thought Juwan would recruit.  Didn't realize he would be this good with the xs and os.  With the NBA pedigree perhaps I should have known.

With a couple more wins we…

With a couple more wins we could solidify top 10 status.  The Big Ten seems to be benefiting from the SEC (football) ranking mentality.  Every loss is a good loss so losses don't move you down.

You would have to be a fool…

You would have to be a fool to take Fields (or any other QB for that matter) over Lawrence.  TL is the NFL prototype.  He has the size and durability (which Fields clearly lacks) and is mobile in the pocket.

Trey Lance didn't get much of a season this year, but he could be a sleeper (are you listening Lions?)

It has been reported that…

It has been reported that Day was offered the Titans offensive coordinator position after 1 year at OSU as a coordinator.  He previously was on staff there.

I don't doubt he will jump to the NFL at some point, seems like the NFL likes young offensive minds like McVay and Stefanski.  But the way he is  loading up on recruiting classes I doubt he leaves now.

The NFL is a tough business…

The NFL is a tough business.  The pay isn't much better than elite programs in college and he is has so much equity right now at OSU he will never get fired.

You talk about recruiting like it is a bad thing.  In the NFL talent gets equally distributed with the draft and salary cap.  At OSU Day is crushing it recruiting.  He basically gets to pick his own roster, unlike having a GM in the NFL.

Successful coaches seem to have a lot more longevity in CFB.  Even JH is looking at a 6 year extension after 6 years of mediocrity at 8 mil per.

Having said that you are correct that coming in with Trevor Lawrence is about as sweet a gig as you can get.  Expectations should be tempered and a new coach could demand a 5-6 year contract.

Supposedly Day was offered an NFL coordinator position after one year at OSU.  He stayed.  I doubt he bolts for the NFL until he has made his mark (meaning national championships).

If Day wanted to go to the…

If Day wanted to go to the NFL he would be there right now.  He has it rolling at OSU with a bright future ahead of him.  Have you seen their recruiting in 2021 and 2022?  I doubt he leaves for the uncertainty of the NFL with Quinn Ewers and all those receivers in the pipeline.

After a decade at OSU and a few NCs I might expect him to bolt.

Yeah, Fields looked terrible…

Yeah, Fields looked terrible after he came back in...

Mullen is low class.

Mullen is low class.

This whole line of thinking…

This whole line of thinking is stupid.  There is literally no difference between the players we recruit and those OSU recruit from an academic perspective.

Because of their success they no longer have to take academic risks.  They are basically picking from the top tier of student athletes.

BTW, Justin Fields had a 3.9 GPA with a 29 ACT in high school.

Yeah, but keep up the fairytale that we only struggle to win because such high academic standards while Northwestern, Wisconsin, and Notre Dame somehow seem to figure it out.

To be successful in the NFL…

To be successful in the NFL you need one thing.  A quarterback.

Jacksonville has a decent nucleus of young talent and soon they will have Trevor Lawrence.  That and a fat six year contract will offer the best opportunity for success.

I watched about half of this…

I watched about half of this game on and off.  The difference in the game wasn't the refs (fouls were evenly split).  It's that Rutgers only really goes 6-7 players deep.  When you don't ever go to your bench you will eventually get yourself into foul trouble.

Rutgers started off hot and couldn't hit the broad side of a barn in the second half.  Ron Harper Jr. is a great player, but just stopped scoring, especially when their PG got hurt after an awkward landing on a drive to the basket.

Rutgers starting five is solid though.

Why would any respected…

Why would any respected coordinator sign on until Harbaugh's contract situation is cleared up (unless they want the head gig after him)?

We need rotation players at…

We need rotation players at DT.  If we have enough at least they will be fresh.

You will never be able to…

You will never be able to reduce the number of regular season games to less than 12 under any scenario.  Those games are what pay for everything else in most athletic departments.  Whether it be (1) ticket sales/concessions, etc. at a place like Michigan (2) payouts to lower level programs for road games (3) inventory for TV.

That is an insane stat.

That is an insane stat.

Exactly,

12 and 16 team…

Exactly,

12 and 16 team playoffs are never going to happen.  Four weeks of playoffs is untenable.

The answer is an 8 team playoff with a 12 game schedule.  Keep the "championship weekend" idea from the Big Ten this year to allow all teams a 12th game and you can shorten the regular season by a week (compared to a normal year).

This will allow for an extra week for the first round of playoffs (hosted at home stadiums).

5 power 5 conference champs and 3 at large.  Seed 1-8, 2-7, etc. with higher seed hosting the opening round.

The three point shot also…

The three point shot also adds to the variability in basketball.

Also, smaller schools can develop a senior class over four years that can compete with the one and done freshman playing star ball in a one game scenario.

I know, Cincinnati and…

I know, Cincinnati and Coastal Carolina would have been way better choices than Alabama and Clemson...

In all seriousness though, the playoff needs to go to 8 games for the good of the sport.  The best players all flock to the schools that they know will make the playoff.  An eight team playoff should spread out the talent pool and keep more fan bases interested after that first or second loss of the season.

That may be true, but if he…

That may be true, but if he does leave will you call him out for lacking integrity?

Seems both sides are hoping for the NFL to swoop in and save them from the situation at hand.

I wouldn't argue that Jack…

I wouldn't argue that Jack Coan is terrible, but I think he is just a good system quarterback.  The stats you cite are starts (Ok, so he stayed healthy) and a decent completion percentage (in 11 of 14 games).  He had a qtr of 92 in one of the games against OSU (what about the other - spoiler alert - it was 43).  He also got stripped sacked by Chase Young about 10 times if I remember.

With a great offensive line/RB combo and play action passes he was pretty efficient in most games.

He would (maybe?) make us nominally better next year, but would hinder the development of the qb that will be leading us when we finally have enough DTs to play real defense.

Coan has a high floor, but a…

Coan has a high floor, but a "low ceiling" so to speak.  He also would most likely expect to start wherever he ends up.

I would rather ride with JJ or Cade.  Both have the potential to be special.

As was mentioned above it…

As was mentioned above it was the CDC that changed the protocols from 14 to 10 days.  (plus the 7 day acclimation process- myocarditis checks)

For a conference that wants to "follow the science" it makes sense that this change was made.  This is the way it should have been for much of year.

You know that if the CDC changed the protocol from 14 to 17 days the conference would have immediately made the switch.  It works both ways.
