I would want to play too.  In fact, as a classical singer who’s been largely grounded for going on near 11 months, I totally get where they’re coming from.  But neither my desire to perform nor theirs should get a stronger voice than what public health experts determine is best for all.

I keep using the "drunk driving" analogy. Every single state has laws about that, and nobody whines that "we have 100 years of data on drunk driving, we should let people take the risk if they want to!"

We don't trust people to realize the dangers of drunk driving and choose not to; we make it illegal.

We don't act like drunk drivers are only a danger to themselves; we recognize that they might kill people.

Most drunk drivers don't get into accidents. Most make it home without any issues. Doesn't mean it wasn't incredibly dangerous.

No offense Pope, but I have trouble with the drunk driving analogy.  Students wanting to go to school or play a sport shouldn't be compared to people willfully breaking the law and putting others at risk.

At some point in society we need to have the honest discussion that every lockdown decision has tradeoffs that have real consequences.

Interesting. If everybody knows what the right precautions are to take, then why are there so many factions of citizens taking different precautions?

And who has a year’s worth of data to analyze the B.1.1.7 variant if it was first discovered in September?

Does it count as a sound mind if people primarily rely on social media memes as “facts” in lieu of actual double blind scientific studies that have been peer reviews and published in a medical journal?

A very scary statement "public health experts determine [what] is best for all."  There are very, very good reasons why public health experts do NOT determine policy directly.  Their motivations are not necessarily what is best for the public in general, and they are not directly elected.  This does not make them bad people.

A public health expert will nearly always choose the most conservative path, because their livelihood is rarely dependent upon being right or wrong - or even how the economy/school/department is doing.  Businesses, student athlete welfare, etc are not really considerations.  They will favor zero or near zero risk consistently.  Then the people actually in charge get to choose to follow those recommendations or not, based upon all the considerations.

Maybe the best thing to do is follow public expert advice, and maybe not.  But public health experts should NEVER determine that directly.

Whatever those major problems are, the people making those decisions are in the best position, from an education and policy perspective, to make those decisions. Not you, not me, and certainly not these truther dipshits. If you can’t admit that we’d all be much better off if the nation as a whole sucked it up and did what was asked for a couple months - then there really is no point discussing further

Have you looked at their credentials?  MDHHS had a degree in education.  Governor has a degree in communications.  These are the people that have closed restaurants because some people that got COVID (and recovered) once went to a restaurant.

Suck it up for a couple of months?  If only.

Tip - Approximately 40% of Americans are low on vitamin D while 80% of COVID patients are low in vitamin D.  You might look into getting more sun or taking vitamin D.
