Hardcore Sparty Meltdown on RCMB
Just too damn funny not to share, following yet another double digit loss for perhaps the worst team in the BIG right now.
Almost feel sorry for th... nah, fuck 'em!

Tough week for Tom

And they have the Hawkeyes, at IA, coming up! They are looking at three double digit losses in a row
January 31st, 2021 at 7:53 PM ^
Here's a funny thought, with this season not counting against your eligibility and free transfer, how many off that msu team bolt after this season?
January 31st, 2021 at 10:07 PM ^
I would think from Izzo's point of view the more that bolt the better. Maybe Tom would bolt with them.
January 31st, 2021 at 5:27 PM ^
Isn’t this the team that some predicted would win the NCAA before the season started?
January 31st, 2021 at 5:34 PM ^
Preseason top 10!
January 31st, 2021 at 5:50 PM ^
I thought it was absurd that MSU was pre-season top 10 and thought they'd have a decent drop off with Winston and Tillman gone, but I didn't think it would be this bad. MSU really relies on elite PG play and they just don't have that. Izzo has also really struck out on recruiting the last few cycles. He's gotten like 1 solid contributor out of the 2018-2020 classes. They better hope that Akins, Christie, Brooks, and Boakye and Bates (depending on if they reclassify or even show up on campus) can all contribute immediately
January 31st, 2021 at 8:44 PM ^
Winston carried the team for two years. Everything had to start with him and he generated about 60% of the offense at key points - there just wasn’t quality guard play beyond him. Then add Tillman’s exit,
Recruiting Loyer was a complete miss and his son isn’t even MAC talent. The fact those two are seeing quality minutes reveals how bad the roster is.
January 31st, 2021 at 9:18 PM ^
Loyer and Watts were huge swings and misses at the PG position

More jumped on the bandwagon after they beat Duke.
January 31st, 2021 at 9:37 PM ^
A lot of them on that board believe that Covid is the only reason they aren't undefeated right now in basketball. They're still on the bandwagon that Duke and themselves are the best two teams in the country. Having 13 out of 15 players infected with Covid has turned them upside down. They are now rooting for it to all be canceled, so that their streak doesn't end and they don't have to watch Michigan.
They also continue to say that this season is an asterisk for everyone.
January 31st, 2021 at 5:29 PM ^
Give them some credit, they could beat Nebraska... at home.... maybe?
January 31st, 2021 at 5:29 PM ^
Their ineptitude on both ends of the court is very hilarious and surprising. Especially considering they do have some talent. Although the article linked to by the OP is a fairly consistent over exaggeration seen on many fan sites when their team has been successful historically but having a bad year. He’s an idiot if he thinks this is the worst team since 1966 tho. He needs to go to bed.
January 31st, 2021 at 5:32 PM ^
This year to MSU basketball is like 2007 was for Michigan football. I can't wait to watch them go through the stages of grief over the next 15 years.
January 31st, 2021 at 5:35 PM ^
We were way better in 2007 than this. I don’t see them redeeming themselves at the end like we did against Florida.
January 31st, 2021 at 5:49 PM ^
Not trying to make a 1:1 analogy. No two situation will be exactly identical. But I think their program's status that Izzo built them up to is fizzling out, just like Carr at Michigan. It isn't easy to figure things out when you have to rebuild a program following such a great coach
January 31st, 2021 at 7:02 PM ^
I feel like one very important difference is that at least according to some people Bacon spoke to, Carr wanted to leave after the end of the 2006 season. To me that makes a great deal of sense and one wonders what might be different if he had.
January 31st, 2021 at 8:04 PM ^
Yes... and he wanted to promote Mike DeBord, which would have kept recruiting at a very high level, and our program would have been in a much different spot right now. Mallett would have stayed too.
Goes to show that recruiting trumps coaching, and luckily our coach realizes this now. I love this new staff.
January 31st, 2021 at 8:14 PM ^
Lloyd first wanted us to hire Ferentz, but Mary Sue Coleman nixed that. DeBord was Plan B.
January 31st, 2021 at 8:28 PM ^
Mallett would've transferred no matter what. I've said this before but he wasn't well liked by both coaches and players.
DeBord would've been a disaster considering his track record at CMU.
January 31st, 2021 at 8:51 PM ^
Granted, Gary Moeller was a disaster at Illinois but as our coach he was pretty good.
Keeping a good program going is a different task than building one from the ground up. Honestly I don’t know how well Lloyd would have done if he had to take over a losing program, either.
January 31st, 2021 at 8:52 PM ^
Isn't it most likely more similar to our football season this year?
February 1st, 2021 at 3:57 PM ^
Or the first year of RichRod. Izzo does have the hope of a decent recruiting class coming in.
January 31st, 2021 at 5:43 PM ^
Typo? I think you meant Michigan football in 2020.
January 31st, 2021 at 5:46 PM ^
don't you mean 2008? I know I know, App State, but we beat FYS that year and it was one of (ulp) 5 bowl wins we've had this century
January 31st, 2021 at 6:10 PM ^
2008 was RichRod's first year
January 31st, 2021 at 6:12 PM ^
No, he means 2007. When you’re starting to see the cracks in the foundation start to crumble under a long-tenured legendary coach.
January 31st, 2021 at 6:40 PM ^
January 31st, 2021 at 7:19 PM ^
Michigan finished second in the conference that year. This is a bad comparison and you should feel bad.
January 31st, 2021 at 8:58 PM ^
That's weird because your mom said something different
January 31st, 2021 at 9:00 PM ^
Jeez I was just making a general observation about the state of their program, and how it reminds me of where we were when Carr started sliding at the end of his career. Sorry to offend all the type A personalities with my less than 100% comparison (btw fellas I am just goofin with you. I'd probably say something similar)
January 31st, 2021 at 5:33 PM ^
Boy that was a tough read & I'm not referring to the content
January 31st, 2021 at 5:39 PM ^
Obligatory FYS!!!!!
Also, fuck whizzo ??
January 31st, 2021 at 6:53 PM ^
Never gets old....
January 31st, 2021 at 5:48 PM ^
MSU better hope that Jaden Akins is their savior at PG or that they strike gold in the transfer portal because the team looks pretty bleak right now, especially if Bates doesn't end up at MSU
January 31st, 2021 at 5:57 PM ^
I’m betting Bates does not play in College. And MSU is desperate for good pg play.
January 31st, 2021 at 6:09 PM ^
Yeah, I think even MSU people are saying he's not coming.
January 31st, 2021 at 6:38 PM ^
Matt and most other people seem to think he won't play in college, but MSU fans seem to think that Bates and Boakye are both reclassifying to '21, however, the Akins/Bates drama seems to have affected that a bit
January 31st, 2021 at 5:49 PM ^
If it's not the end of the line for Izzo....it should be. Bye Tommy
January 31st, 2021 at 6:06 PM ^
Izzo will never get fired. He’ll call it quits on his terms. Given the fact that this season serves as a pretty large aberration from his 20+ years, I can assure you he isn’t going anywhere. When he does, that program will see mediocrity they have never known before.
January 31st, 2021 at 8:17 PM ^
MSU knew plenty of mediocrity before Izzo (and even his first few years). Only young MSU fans think they’re a blueblood.
January 31st, 2021 at 11:07 PM ^
Actually, Sparty was largely mediocre under Jud Heathcote. Look up his year-by-year HC record.
Michigan not snagging Magic Johnson cost Michigan at least 1 National Championship and gave MSU another. That was a major zero sum battle that ended up going against us.
January 31st, 2021 at 5:55 PM ^
Covid has stolen many joyous moments in life.
Add hearing Crisler Arena chant NIT this year at the visiting Spartans.
January 31st, 2021 at 6:21 PM ^
They may not even get a bid to that.
January 31st, 2021 at 5:58 PM ^
I wonder how they will do against their next opponent, who has lost their last two games, this Tuesday......at IOWA.
