Kiffin doesn't need a private eye, his star tailback transferred to OSU. I hope he does apply pressure and the NCAA drops their hamburgers and looks a little deeper. I also hope they hire Lou Holtz as their special "hard" investigator.

I heard he was toxic in the lockeroom. Did he really show him the door and then complain that OSU picked up the scraps?

Also, for the record, OSU was already closing the gap on us and Henderson is good enough to have a chance to beat us next year. He didn't need to downgrade the lockeroom for some security. He reminds me of a Linus.

I don't think Kiffin is throwing stones. I think he's trolling the people who get worked up about NIL. This is what he does on Twitter (and he's a pretty funny follow).

He's also posted pictures of Alabama's campus after Saban retired (to troll people who thought he was going there), and he posted pictures of a jet at TAMU's airport after Jimbo was fired.

This coming from the Ole Miss coach.  "Pot meet kettle".

If both OSU and Ole Miss are not investigated in a year or two, then it truly is time for the NCAA to dismantle.  The problem I see is that the NCAA has allowed this shadiness to go on for so long that it is impossible to investigate every team for every player they threw money at and come up with a timely mannered punishment.

We already know that The NCAA & The Ohio are in lockstep at fucking over Michigan every second of every Day.  But did they also change how many scholly roster spots The Ohio can have as well?

Same reason so many of those coaches were so against the whole NIL thing from the beginning. They want to be the only ones doing it. Last thing they want is anything that levels the playing field.

“While it's unclear how much money the NIL collectives have spent to bring in this talent, it's been speculated that it's well into the millions.”

Well duh. If they spent under 7 figures to reel in that haul of players I’d be more concerned with how they were able to get them so cheap.

They never had a talent issue.  But, seeing how hard they are buying recruits is amazing.  How is that fair?  The NCAA can ban advanced scouting because it's unfair to smaller schools but OSU spending millions is just fine?

1) The money is not coming from the school.

2) Inducements are against NCAA rules. If OSU collectives or boosters or fans are saying to players "If you transfer here or stay here rather than go to the NFL or the portal, then I will give you X amount in exchange for some NIL deal" then that is against the rules. That is what FSU got penalized for and Florida is being investigated for.

Well, you asked how it was fair. I was just saying how the NCAA rules as written are consistent and fair in regards to spending on inducements and spending on advanced in person scouting. Neither is permissible.

And I kind of doubt the money is coming directly from the school. It's likely that it really is just from boosters, unless you think Day or other staff is personally paying players. But it's for sure not a line item on their athletic department's budget.

As for Michigan getting kids in the portal, no one is going to commit to Michigan while our coaching situation is what it is.

Just goes to show how miserable OSU fans are right now watching us win the NC!  They are throwing everything into this year, NIL $$, BOB, etc.  Will be interesting to see what happens if they do not win the NC.

We all know that Pandora’s box has been opened - there are no guidelines consistently being enforced (though the Florida and FSU situations might provide a clue).

The Buckeyes are going all-in on this season.  I know I’ll root for Lanning and the Ducks when O$U visits Eugene.  And - as others have noted - the Bucks will have either the most, or second most, talented roster in college football for the ‘24 season.   Is it NC or bust?  It seems so.

I would enjoy seeing what teams are actually spending in NIL and which players are getting what - and from whom.

Saban pointed out A&M’s approach a couple of seasons ago.  Kiffin is calling out the Buckeyes.  I’m glad Michigan isn’t involved in this part of the mud slinging.   And, a stock tip - if I may - buy Lamborghini stock…

Some things:

  • Sayin has little relevance to 24. Howard is the guy for next year. OSU will lose Noland in the process. Pretty much lied to him. That might come back to bite OSU.
  • OSU has complied a talented secondary, but they still don’t generate much of pass rush from front four. I assume this means more blitzing from Knowles.
  • Henderson is injury prone. Jenkins has a toxic personality. The latter on a team already with culture issues…yikes.
  • Will Howard, their WRs, and their offensive line are just okay. That may be enough to win the Big Ten, but I don’t see them beating Georgia.
  • OSU very clearly trying to copy Michigan’s gameplan of success except without the exceptional culture Michigan founded on of the nadir of the Covid year. Winning 11 games and losing to an arch rival isn’t quite the same as what UM went through.
  • Ohio State hiring an investigator to dig up dirt on Michigan has opened to Ohio State to the same tactic. I fully expect more investigations into OSU and Catapult and especially OSU and NIL. We haven’t seen the last of this.
  • Ohio State’s problem has never been players. They always have a Uber talented roster. These additions don’t really move the needle in terms of success as their problem is cultural and the head coach’s mental fragility.

Lastly, Michigan has seen their moves. Now they need to respond within the structure of their culture. Whether now or post spring they have to find a QB and a game breaking WR if that is at all possible.

Ohio State has four (4) games against pre-season Top 25 ranked teams.   The list with their pre-season ranking is as follows.   As a point of reference, the Buckeyes pre-season ranking is 5th.

  • Iowa (25) in Columbus on October 5th
  • at Oregon (3) on October 12th
  • at Penn State (12) on November 2nd
  • Michigan (6) in Columbus on November 30th

IMO, it will be difficult for Iowa to make the hurdles / jump necessary to be competitive on offense over one off season - but, we'll see.   So, the one addition to the previous B1G schedule is playing at Oregon.

Michigan's schedule - as a comparison - is as follows - Michigan's pre-season ranking is 6th, and the opponent's ranking is noted the same as above.  USC is not ranked in the pre-season and is scheduled to visit Ann Arbor on September 21st.

  • Texas (2) in Ann Arbor on September 7th
  • at Washington (11) on October 5th
  • Oregon (3) in Ann Arbor on November 2nd
  • at Ohio State (5) on November 30th

The Buckeyes path to reach the B1G CCG is probably as easy as it can be.

College football is the wild west right now. They need to change some rules fast. That said, I like some of the movement because it means teams cannot stockpile a bunch of 5 stars and talented QB's can give some teams hope. Overall, more movement is probably good, but it needs to be a little more contained than it is right now.

OSU is buying a good team. I'd imagine they are going to beat M next year, but I'm sure as shit hoping it all somehow falls apart instead!

After looking at the most recent Portal activity - with Sayin committing to O$U - it seems like the Buckeyes will be the most talented roster in college football for the '24 season - and - Georgia / Texas won't be too far behind.

The last time the Buckeyes were #1 in the 247 Team Talent Composite was 2018 - when they lost to Purdue during B1G conference play and finished the season ranked 3rd.   Clemson defeated Bama in the NC game that year.

If only this was the way to win. If this was it, the Yankees would have won every World Series there’s been. 1 and domes never work either in BB. It doesn’t matter what talent you have if it can’t gel into a team. Time after time it doesn’t work. I’m not worried about OSU because their coach can’t get them to play as a team.  Or to play tough and for each other. They’re recruiting the wrong traits because the stars are so pretty.

Live in San Diego I can tell you that the Padres thought they could buy a World Series last year and even bragged about it prematurely.  It failed epically.  They had a decent core to their team and the pieces they added didn't fit at all.

The Dodgers & Yankees have a combined 3 World Series Championships this century - depending on when you consider it started - despite wildly outspending every other team.

I know they're different sports but the MLB & CFB are similar in that they have teams with bottomless pockets and most that don't.

There have been 16 different MLB teams to win Championships this century.
