Hoops Snowflakes thread

How many times do we need to see this type of flailing by the basketball team at the end of games.

I watched this whole game, been watching since Campy Russell and CJ Cupek and I was screaming at the TV because of how they were coached and played from the end of the 1st OT till the end, truly pathetic.

Good defenses really function like they're not even thinking; it's just instinctive moving to spots and defending guys.

So true-- there's a reason they call it "defense on a string!" You have to move as a team, and that has to be practiced to the point of instinct. That's why I miss the Yaklich teams... so few teams are actually structurally any good.

Agree about the potential for growth, that is my whole reason to be cautious with letting Juwan go as opposed to putting together a fresh coaching staff. If he is just getting started, it gives me some hope too. I have gotten a little tired of how much I cringe watching the play of this year's team though.

Honestly, that didn't bother me a ton because especially if a team just hit a shot sometimes you can catch them in transition and get that winning shot in the scrum that follows.  What was dumb was not giving it to Dug and having him try to take it to the rim instead of Burnett hoisting up a bad 3 with time left.  Florida's not a good defensive team and so get them moving around and scrambling and try to win that way is fine by me.  But you gotta have that planned out that your PG gets the ball.

The worst defensive possession was when they were down 6 and could’ve fouled the terrible free throw shooter but instead let him pass to the guy who hit the open 3 point shot. WTF?! There was about a min left in 2OT and it was like they’d just given up. Then, down 9 they hit a couple shots and it’s a game again with 30 seconds left.
I know they were all exhausted by then but that’s on coaching too.
sigh

Dug deserves a better team to be part of

I’ve been a huge supporter of Coach Howard, but yet again I found myself yelling “box out!!!” at the TV. It’s the most simplistic thing in basketball and this team hasn’t done it for a few years now.
Almost all of these close games would be wins if they simply put a butt on someone when the shot goes up. That is a coaching problem at this point it’s not going to change with this staff. Sigh.

I really don’t understand why people get negged on here for any take that suggests Juwan isn’t cutting it here? I’d just like someone to come on here and explain why he needs to keep his job at this point? He was a gamble when we hired him and it’s not working out. This will be two straight years not going to the NCAA tournament, so the trajectory is downward. What am I missing that some here blindly follow him?

Yup. Seems like there are some who take issue with those who arrived at the conclusion that Juwan is not a good fit here sooner than some others.

No one in their right mind wants their coach to do poorly or get fired. Especially someone like Juwan who has a history with Michigan. It's sad but if he doesn't turn it around ASAP, something has to change.

We went from hanging banners and making the NCAA tourney fairly consistently every year to now maybe not even making it to the NIT? It's not just a one off year either.

Harbaugh was a great coach before he got here. He more than earned a mulligan for 2020. Juwan had a great story, an apprenticeship for the Miami Heat is about the best training ground you are going to have sans head coaching experience. But he’s just not assembling the proper pieces or putting them in positions to succeed.

43-37 in the last 80 games.

5-17 in games decided by 2 possessions or less since 2021.

Several instances of bad behavior/culture issues on and off the court.
