When Beilein left I always felt like Juwan was wise to keep at least one of John’s staff members. In this case, I’m ok with a completely clean slate considering we aren’t trying to retain key players and it’s an overhaul.
If it was that easy Juwan would still have his job because Hunter was a weapon down low as well. He also had an outside game as well. You still have to put the pieces around him and put in a plan for what they might take away from him also. What if teams pack the lane with a 2-3 zone? Painter would have to scheme around that as well. You aren’t giving opposing coaches enough credit to come up with a game plan to limit the effectiveness of the other Purdue players, knowing Edey is going to get his.

He’s got Cheddar and Burnett coming back at least. If he brings a couple from FAU to go along with a couple from the portal that’s already a decent core to go along with the freshmen. That’s assuming that Reed and Dug stay in the portal. Everyone except Burnett could come back the next year besides his FAU guys. Recruit a couple good ones and add another 1-2 from the portal and year two is looking even better. I just don’t see Michigan as a program that should be waiting 3-4 years to be remotely relevant.
If he’s not in the tournament by year two then Michigan made the wrong choice. He has a wide open roster to attack the portal and get what he needs. He can bring a few from FAU with him, get Rooths back in the fold and then hit the portal.
Anyone see Illinois post game locker room celebration? Underwood came in with a super soaker. Where have I seen that before? Underwood trying to be like Beilein
Id kind of like to see what they can do with some good coaching. If they aren’t gonna buy in defensively and work hard in the weight room then they can leave.
I wonder if any of the current players in the portal change their mind? Would competent coaching be good for Reed, Dug and GW3? Dug may be leaving due to academic challenges here as well? Need to get in touch with Rooths quickly as well.
Roy Williams got them to stay year in and year out prior to NIL. I’ve got a friend who is a UNC fan and I always teased him about Beilein sending 3 stars to the NBA and NC keeping 5 stars for 4 years. Izzo does it too.
How the hell does North Carolina always get kids to stay 2-3-4 years? Look at their roster, they’ve got Bacot and Davis as seniors, Ryan and Ingram as transfers. Several Sophs and Juniors. It must be nice!
The lack of information with the coaching search sucks. When Harbaugh left we had instant information knowing it was Sherrone and then started getting info on assistant candidates right away. So far, nothing is out there on coaches for basketball.

Remains to be seen on NIL. If football starts landing elite talent then I’ll say basketball needs to step up
Me too. I think people don’t like him here because he’s a Duke grad. What he’s done at Northwestern is remarkable. Realistically speaking, there isn’t a “can’t miss” coach out there. I think Collins is the best candidate out all the ones I’ve seen listed.
First of all, he’s got a ton left on his contract. Second of all, for having pretty much a top 1-2 class every year he’s under performed. I don’t want a one and done NBA farm system.
At this point, until Michigan gets its shit together with NIL and makes it a little easier to get in key transfers, they need someone who can coach above his weight. Unless they are gonna pony up a lot of dough, they really can’t be super picky. The trajectory of the program now as opposed to 5 years ago is remarkably different.

I’d be ecstatic with Medved! The team has crisp passing, understands when to double, does backdoor cuts when necessary, proper spacing, etc . I’m sold already.

I was thinking Anderson was from Georgia so he could always go there with Rooths if that’s where he ends up. Anderson was the one I was really excited about seeing here, despite the coaching.
I feel like the real key here is the fact he’s been employed for merely 10 days. The average drunk driver operates intoxicated 80 times before getting caught. So, either he has a serious drinking issue or he lacks in quality decision making. My guess is that it is a combination of the two. Considering he’s been employed for 10 days, if I was Warde I would can him. For me, there isn’t an upside here. He’s too much of a liability and we’ve had too much assistant coach scrutiny lately. If he’s already owning up to it, he’s going to plead guilty, so there aren’t any other circumstances to consider with this one.
Purely from a football perspective. First year head coach needs his coaches for his first spring practice and this dude is out getting arrested. Now they will go through spring practice without him.
