Pate didn't say Michigan was "the greatest". He did specifically compare its construction to an Andy Griffith episode. From a bygone era. Last is the operative word.

Hopefully, Michigan wins another in the near future, but if it does (unless it's this year), it will be heavily NIL-driven.

I wonder if any effect would be left if you take out Georgia, Alabama, and Ohio State.

From the eyeball regression, it's apparent that they are strong contributors to the slope and significance. But is it really the number of draft picks from the prior two years that are the driver of their recruiting success?

9 Wolverines picked in the first 200 picks. 57 picks to go.

There are 6 Wolverines in ESPN's best 57 available, from Jaylen Harrell at #30 to Braiden McGregor at the cusp at 57.

Many of the current picks are coming from outside of the 57, so hopefully Nugent #83, Henderson #92 and/or Jones #95 get picked to help tie or break the record.

Michigan is one ahead of schedule with Zinter being taken in the 3rd instead of the 4th round.

The 6th and 7th rounds will be The Michigan Show, with a Wolverine taken with every ~sixth pick.

My guess is that Michigan will fall just short of the record, as teams are sure to make some picks outside of ESPN's best 157 available, pushing some of the Wolverines in the projected best 157 down to UDFAs. But if one or two of those sub-157 picks are Wolverines, then it may happen.

7 Wolverines have been…

7 Wolverines have been picked thus far.

Per ESPN's best available, AJ Barner is fairly certain to be picked at #46 (there are 157 picks remainìng).

Then there are 7 from 102 through 142.

#171 Nugent, #185 Henderson, and #189 Jones also have a chance.

I think Jones is underrated at 189 but Wallace is overrated at 116.

In any event, the 6th and 7th rounds are going to be The Michigan Show. About every sixth pick will be a Wolverine.

As known before, tying or breaking the record will come down to the 3-4 of the border line drafable guys getting taken in the 6th or more likely 7th round.

Whether guys go high or low 2nd or 3rd has no bearing.

NIL is the one area that IMO could drag Warde down. (Other than the ever-present risk of scandal culpability.)

Football is about 2/3rds of his job. Basketball maybe 20%. He's blown away BB with the Dusty May hire.

"Transformational Not Transactional". (Or "Platitudes, not deserved market value compensation.")

Of course, Warde can't raise for NIL directly, but everybody knows the game, and donors aren't stupid. "Potential" donors like to be smoozed/kept informed. Nothing wrong with that. And they can write checks independently to NIL collectives. Nothing wrong with that.

I'm perfectly fine for Warde to be a chameleon and pretend he never said "Transformational not Transactional." For Michigan to stay elite, it needs an elite NIL pipeline.

What can we expect?

That it's only a matter of time before we hear laments about a low 8ish NCAA seed.

Following the past football and basketball* seasons, there's a lot of pent up demand for complaining.

Maybe that's part of the reason Warde got hammered (some of it deserved, IMO). There was no where else to go.

*Basketball was so bad that the usual emotional complaints turned into unemotional, dark humor acknowledgements.

I didn't look very hard, but per this graphic, football comprises about half of the revenue at FBS schools. (Seems ballpark accurate.) And at the football factories, it's probably a greater percentage, in both revenue and especially in profits.

&amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;lt;/p&amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;gt;&amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;lt;/body&amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;gt;

Football could break off by itself.

Of course, there are going to be significant interruptions in recruiting from a near complete coaching staff change. It's a relationship activity, and it'll take time to build those. Fortunately, it's April.
