Definitely make every issue…

Definitely make every issue about the 1 or 2 college athletes per year coming out as transgender during their college careers.  Do not address the tens of thousands who stay with the gender they were born with.  Because a transgender person winning a championship definitely leads to moral decay, the downfall of society, and probably The Rapture.  It's that serious.  Jesus, Buddha, Mohammed, and all of the other big guys tell us so.  Unless they don't exist.  If they do, they don't address it in their holy books.  At all. But YOU addressing it punches your ticket to heaven.  So congratulations.

LSA, well said.  This is always a thoughtful place, though of course we are all guilty of ridiculous hot takes and emotional postings at times.  I would not want my legacy to contain any post I've made on a game thread, for example.  Not even sure some of them were written in any discernible world language, TBH.  I saw that an LSA grad from '83 replied-let's see how many years we can get on this thread.  LSA '86.

No changes needed, very excited about this team!  I have friends-many friends, very important friends-in the program.  They shared the offensive gameplan with me for the remainder of the season, and I've been studying it for hours.  I can't hope to understand the sheer genius, so I'm sharing it with you guys to see if you can interpret for me.  Any help is appreciated.  Bang Head Here Hitting Head Against Wall Head Hitting Brick Wall Gif – Thegratedcom | Gif Meme on ME.ME

I have a cat, and he's the best one I've ever had.  Great purr (High Motor), always happy to have attention, but doesn't need it all the time (Team Guy).  Sleeps a lot, eats well, keeps his fur clean. (Works hard off the field, "Gym Rat.")  I love dogs too, but nothing wrong with cats.  Not a big Mongolian Grill fan, though.

Class of '86 here, rabid M…

Class of '86 here, rabid M fan, now a high school counselor.  So, so, so difficult to defend anything UM admissions does.  We took a tour 5 years ago when my stepdaughter was looking at UM, she ended up as a direct admit to Ross and graduated this spring.  Great experience for her, prospects are bright.  She hated the UM COVID response and thought it was too restrictive, but that's a discussion for another day.

The tour itself was meh.  Highlight was the admissions rep saying "Maize is yellow-with just a tinge of arrogance mixed in."  I thought it was funny, but not sure anyone without a UM history got the joke.

With the kids from our high school that apply to UM, the best advice from our department is spend time on your essays, follow directions, and then hope they let you in.  No guidance from UM admissions as to what they are looking for.  In fact, they run workshops for high school counselors and seem to delight in giving as little information as possible.

"It's a holistic process" is something we hear a lot from them.  That's code for "We do whatever the hell we want and don't have to explain ourselves to you."  I guess that model works for them given the number of applications and acceptance rate, but it's a very different environment than it was even ten years ago.  They don't have to try harder because they are The University of Michigan, but wouldn't it be nice if they did?

My favorite part about this…

My favorite part about this event is the thousands of wannabees that wear jerseys, buy thousand dollar bikes, and impede traffic all over the roads where I drive.  Somehow the majesty of the event doesn't make up for getting stuck behind 10 bikers on Dexter-Ann Arbor road for a mile going 25.  By all means neg away, just get off the road first.

I have not been on the blog…

I have not been on the blog much over the past few months.  No more basketball and absolute despair over the upcoming football season tends to do that to me.  I am apparently the last one to know that XM is white, and I do find it disingenuous at best that he didn't ever state this-or at least, not overtly enough that I ever caught it at some point over the past however many years.  Sounds like his COVID misinformation was egregious, and that he didn't handle the ban in a mature manner.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                 Having said all that, it sounds like Ace-AGAIN-overreacted to a poster, made it personal, and took it outside the bounds of the blog into real life.  I enjoy his writing, usually, and am glad he appears to be winning his battle with his health, but I have to believe that in real life he is a miserable person to be around.  So sensitive, so prickly, so willing to use the nuclear option at the slightest provocation.  Given the choice of one or the other on the blog, I'd take XM.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                             Coffee, with a little cream.  Because it's 10 a.m.

"What if" with me for a…

"What if" with me for a second.  What if there had been a Big Ten Championship football game back in 2003, and it started at 8 p.m.?  What if a 14 year old kid had only been allowed to watch the first half because it was on a school night?  That kid would now be 32 and would never have seen Michigan football win a Big Ten Championship since she missed out that night in 2003.

Let the kid stay up.  Call her into first hour if you need to.  Some experiences are more important than perfect school attendance.  And I work in a school!

*Save the "But that will never happen with basketball" takes.  Would have been unthinkable with where football was in 2003, as well.

Dark, but kids have to learn how the world works at some point.  Would recommend.

I always said part of Urban…

I always said part of Urban's success at OSU was spending that time as an assistant under Woody Hayes, just like Harbaugh gives credit to the lifelong lessons he learned from Fielding Yost.

Educator here, have worked…

Educator here, have worked for many years in middle and high school.  Sorry this happened to your daughter.  I would set up an appointment with a good counselor/therapist so she can process this.  Your family doctor, religious leader, or school counselor are good resources for recommendations.

1.  Check your spam and voicemail on all phones to make sure the school didn't contact you.

2.  Ask your daughter if she feels safe going to school tomorrow.  If not, keep her home until you meet with the principals.

3.  Call the principal first thing in the morning.  Discuss the status of their investigation.  Based on that conversation, decide next steps.  Face to face meeting?  Safety plan for your daughter?  Police involvement?  I would look on that as a last step, but of course you have every right to go there first if you choose.  I would agree with a few others that police involvement and all that comes with it could add to the trauma for your daughter, but it could also be exactly the right move.

4.  I don't know you or your daughter, so no disrespect is meant to either of you here-and no, this does not imply blaming the victim.  It's about getting all the information about the situation.  Gently ask her-or have the counselor/therapist ask her-what the history is with the boy.  Does she know him?  Have they had issues before?  Has he dated her friends, or possibly her?  (Middle school relationships can last a day or a week, and when they end sometimes the kids don't have the experience to handle it well.)  What does she know about him?  His friends?  Context can help explain the actions, though not excuse them.

5.  Be persistent.  Tell the principal exactly what you want to see happen, and include the superintendent in your conversation. If at any point you feel like they are holding back or dragging their feet, you can always go nuclear-police, DA, school board, local media, etc.

Best of luck.
