Washington likely our opponent. Penix has incredible touch. Thoughts?

Hard to root against Washington.  And thank you for taking out one of the all-time coaching frauds Steve Sarkisian. UW, much like UM, has been underestimated all year.  And yet they are 14-0 and obviously an elite team.  They're hard to figure out.  Other than Penix, they don't seem outstanding anywhere, and yet they win.  They have been in relative control all night against a Texas team that many thought was the best in the country.

Should have thrown for the front pylon.  Good game.

Bring on the huskies.  So excited to play both of these teams next year.

I’ve watched a fair bit of UW football this season and DeBoer makes a lot of baffling Frames-level clock management decisions. Could be a big factor next week.

Washington survives.  And now you see that their D is not good and we should be very happy.  They will still be a tough opponent.  But if they were to somehow beat Michigan, then they will have by far the national champ with the worst D by far in the playoff era.  Texas has a top ten D and they could have limited our running.  Washington's D is just not very good at all

The bad news

UW Offensive rankings in CFB

1st passing offense

5th sacks allowed

97th Rushing offense (**not the bad)

Good news

UW Defense rankings

90 total defense

119 passing yards allowed

37 rushing defense

either way, Penix, Odunze and their OL are a problem

Our offense isn’t good enough to take advantage of that D. Washington will score a lot of points. Our D is elite but that can only take you so far in a game like this where penix throws the ball within 2 sec of the snap. The creativity on offense will also be somethin we’re not use to. Our O needs to keep up

Michigan has the no.9 offense, and probably is the most efficient offense in the nation.  Washington has serious weaknesses on D,  They are the 42d D in the nation, per SP+.  In the playoff era, no national champ has had a D even close to that low ranking.  This is a much better matchup for Michigan than Texas.

Odunze is a beast. Full stop. McElroy (announcer) said he had a better season than Marvin Harrison Jr., and I agree.

Except for the last 90 seconds of the TX game, very well coached and, like the best coaches, Deboer knows how to scheme to give put his players in the best positions to succeed (as opposed to scheming the way he wants to scheme, regardless of the talent/skills of the players).

That said, they haven’t played great defenses annd aren’t great on defense themselves.

Their WRs are as good as any we faced this year, including OSU. Penix when on his game drops uncoverable dimes. They get rid of it quick and love creating single coverage matchups.

Will be a tough game.

UT and future SEC can bite me

A traditional Big10 ,PAC10: matchup for all the marbles before everything all goes to h#ll. UW is a tough matchup but Go Blue!

Penix has a great arm and can make great throws.  I don't know, though, how well that is going to work against the Michigan defense.  After facing a guy who can't throw but runs like crazy now we've got the inverse.

I'm sure Minter will figure it out.  And surely our offense can move the ball against Washington.

Take the over.

After seeing him in person a bunch at IU, he is prone to being rattled. Minter needs to dial up some exotic blitzes and we will be fine.

Bargain bin Ohio State (with Stroud). Worse defense by far. Clean up the mistakes and we stuff them in a locker and tell the rest of the CFB world to fuck off and go to hell.

It will be tough game and probably have more points scored. I'd be surprised if we hold Washington under 24 points but I think Michigan can score over 24 points on Washington. More pressure on Penix may not result in over 400 yards of passing.

Mel, I think you can’t just talk about preventing his next eruption, you have to get a good grip on him to prevent him from scoring.

Sorry about any typos. I get too excited.

Actually, Washington seems relatively easy to understand. They're basically Ohio State last year (elite qb, but defense is nothing special). I assume we'll run the OSU defense we practiced most of the year again.

I like our chance with Washington. Our passing D match up well with any passing offense. I bet Michigan can scheme a game plan to focus more on the ground to limit the number of procession by W. then we have a good chance. I suspect we will unleash a lot of TE play next game. And if our special team comes back, we may have adv. there as well.

Penix tends to release the ball very quickly, that can neuturalize our DL pressure. They tends to use a lot of 4 or 5 WR set, I doubt their OL with only 5 players can stop our blitz.

Just don't shot ourselves to our feet. We need to play a clean game next time.

Will be a tough game. Michigan struggles with tempo and cant fall behind early. I think its a fair fight with the location being nowhere near either schoool. Should be fun, Michigan really needs to avoid man coverage against Washington. I think what they did against Milroe (zone) makes sense against Penix as well (although realizing Penix is a lot better). Michigan needs to not get behind early and pound the ball on offense.

Do you remember when he was a Hoosier? I do. So does he. It will haunt him for a while... About a week. He will have precious less time next week.

I’m feeling TCU 2022 with a much better QB. People say they aren’t elite in most areas other than QB, but their d flies around and makes plays, their receivers are incredible, and their coaching is incredibly elite.

I hope UM is able to pressure Penix and our secondary can confuse him in some way, but he’s scary good.

I also hope our running game is just too much fort Washington’s Defense. Texas was running well against UW, so I kept Thinking UT would eventually start to lean on UW and keep Penix on the bench, but that didn’t happen because Penix kept throwing darts and ran the score up.
