SIAP: OSU Schadenfreude - Tony Gerdeman goes full whiny emo

Submitted by poseidon7902 on November 27th, 2023 at 4:08 PM

He gets a lot of praise around here for his Michigan Monday column, but this time, I think we need to make sure he's not hurting himself.  The entire thing reads like a comment from my 6 year old son to his older sister after she beats him up for being annoying.

Yeah, that comment of his does not compute.  OSU scored 3 TDs, UM scored 3 TDs; UM attempted and made 3 FGs; OSU attempted 2 and made 1.  They weren't in a position to attempt more FGs, and they didn't score more TDs.  What is his point?  Bet he loved the Ryan Day tough guy speech at the end of the ND game.

Well you have to have the ability to get within range first, Tony, and those points can surprisingly lead to a ...win! But you guys keep paying others to gain advantage not registering on the field...so proud.

Hey Tony how about we report your plagiarizing the word "the" (notice how I am doing it too…but...no matter). Then give this assault on free speech to your boss's Boss and threaten them both with vacated revenue and ban their minions from internet access?

Let's also rally for summary judgment to right this wrong immediately so you needn't cover the rest of the post season. As if you have anything left to write about anyway.

The whining about Michigan's style of play has always been the most deliciously pathetic of the haters' mantras. "Michigan runs the ball too much! They settle for field goals! They throw to their tight ends a lot!"

...and? I do hope this year there is something a little more dynamic up the sleeve for the Playoff that Buckeye and Sparty and Nittany losers will be watching from the sideline. But in the meantime, if those really are all it takes to beat your shit teams, I don't think pointing it out is really the dunk you seem to think it is.

Huge difference between kicking FGs to extend to a two-score lead, when within your kickers range, and when you also know you can trust your D to get key stops, and kicking field goals that are outside your kicker's range when consistently trailing in the game and needed to make a statement of intent and faith in your team.

But I think Gerdeman knows that - just can't face it.

What a loser this guy is? He is pointing out the margin of victory as to why sign stealing is the reason for those margin of victory last two years. Not because UM did not have their head coach, their LB coach, hampered QB, improved OSU D, losing the best lineman, the top DB and a generational WR on OSU side. No sir. It is to do with sign decoding which is done by OSU as well.

What a dumbass whiny ass. I feel dumb reading his rant.

The funny thing is, if they played this EXACT same defensive scheme last year (1 safety high) instead of zero on every other down, the score last year probably would have been similar to this year. We were like 3 or 4 tackles away from replicating the last year's score this year, except that they had some one to clean up mistakes this year and they were able to hold us to field goals instead of touchdowns we scored last year.

If you cannot recognize that, can you really call yourself a football analyst?

OSU had far more productive days offensively, yardage-wise, in 2021 and 2022, and about the same number of points in all three games (27, 22, 24). They just seize up in the red zone (Maserati overheating from the stress?).  They came much closer this time, because they got more meat on the ground and fewer empty air calories.  But the D still folded when it mattered.

They did it to themselves. We made our own excuses in our time down low - the spot instead of Speight's picks, online classes instead of Don Brown's failure to adjust - and they had theirs the last couple of years. But then they (allegedly!) came up with signgate, and gaslit the media, fans, the Big Ten, and apparently themselves into thinking it was the reason they'd lost. Even when it came out that they had our signs. There was clear evidence to most neutral observers that this was hilarious, stupid, and truly a minor rule violation and that everyone did steal signs before the game. But they, and their allies, refused to believe it.

And then they got humbled - we did that part. A more even game for sure, with a better defense that  still couldn't get off the field in the 2nd half. They finally "out-toughed" us for a drive - and then immediately ate it with our response, a 3 and out with a thunderous PBU, and then when they came back within 1 score a 7 min drive that out-toughed them right back and made them need a TD. All without our HC, let alone our sign stealer. And they still never led. And their OL still got out-toughed on the penultimate snap of the game (and the one before, and the one before, and the one before).

Literally nobody believes their narrative now. And everyone, them included, sees that they lost because they weren't better. They will shout into the wind "CHEATERZ" forever and talk about margin of victory, but even Ari Wasserman knows they've lost - the game, the last two games, and the narrative. The big ten couldn't save them, they're grasping that the NCAA bans us from the postseason IN SEASON for a level II violation...after their tattoo laden players got to play in the Sugar Bowl even after the whole story broke.

They did this to themselves. They hyped themselves up so much that it wasn't their fault. And now instead of easily being let down for a 3rd season in a row, they are waking up and discovering the awful truth - they're a top 5 team, a top 4 playoff team even. But Michigan is just better, and has been for 3 years.

Those who stay will point to this game as proof that the sign stealing over the past two years had no impact on this rivalry, while completely ignoring the differences in margins of victory.

Well he can eat one then.

Completely lacks any critical thinking or analysis of the actual teams. OSUs defense was much better this year (elite status) and Michigans Oline isn't as good as last year. Hence the more even matchup.

Idk why this is so hard to understand and it has absolutely nothing to do with signs.  It's one thing for fans to be cry baby losers but it's even more pathetic that their media are the same way

There are just so few OSU beat writers/bloggers/interneters that I can take seriously after the last three years.  They just have no idea what sports actually is.  They've had this weird bubble of unprecedented success that is, yes, a lot because of the institution, but also like everything a lot to just chance and things that were not in their control at all.  Like sometimes you lose to good teams!  Sometimes your rival is super good!  It happens!  You can be disappointed and bummed and sad but, geez, just realize that this happens.  It's crazy that many of them just never realized this was a possibility.  Trust fund babies who never realized that the money has to come from somewhere, and sometimes that trust fund goes bust, and you then don't know what the real world is.

Don't forget the bag men. Never forget the bag men. Also remember that their in-person scouting is very likely more elaborate -- and designed way better -- than ours. Some of their success is due to things in their control. (Credit to them.)

Here's something I haven't seen addressed: how was it exactly that Stalions came up with his scheme?

There's one possible answer that would make a hell of a story. Since there seem to be more writers chasing the PI story than there were PIs, maybe one of them could look into this instead.

The radio station has been GOLD today.  The main show (T-Bone and Common Man) has/are having a full blown melt down.  From criticizing the team, bitching about harbaughs presser, they're broken down here.  Most of all, Common man was so pissed, he blew through commercials and said he wasnt going to play any during the three hours.  They forced him to take a commercial, and had to talk to corporate during the forced commercial.  They're now having him take tomorrow off due to this. Love it.

I LOLed hard at this:

Now there's some *strong* butthurt vibes.

I'm sorry but it's ridiculous that Portnoy is banned around here but this ass hat content isn't. At least Dave has been yelling from roof tops what shit this is, but we continue to post from a base that tried everything to ruin this programs these kids. Fuck anything from any OSU "media" base

I agree.  I used to think of him as witty and a pretty good sport—maybe one of the good ones down there—but the comment about signs and the margin of victory is just too much.

Another extra 5 minutes I get back every autumn Monday I guess.

Every one of these “points” can be so easily refuted, but somehow this pathetic, bitchy post annoys me even more than last week’s, so I won’t waste my time on it. Instead I will add one point he missed:

Those who stay…

WILL BE CHAMPIONS.

Those who stay will remain in perpetual celebration of the fact that Ohio State remains in perpetual anguish.

---- Love this :) They seem to be in more anguish than Michigan fans were.

Those who stay will get to send an Ohio State senior class on to the next chapters of their lives without a single pair of gold pants for the first time since 1991.

------ Childish. Very childish.

Those who stay will point to this game as proof that the sign stealing over the past two years had no impact on this rivalry, while completely ignoring the differences in margins of victory.

------ Jeez. Never thought of this before.

Those who stay will be lauded for their aggressiveness on fourth down despite attempting more field goals than Ohio State.

---Not only attempted, score more field goals as well.

Those who stay will empower the conspiracy theorists by amplifying the hate in their hearts with an energized resolve.

---huh?

Those who stay will get to watch an Ohio State offense that can’t figure out how to dominate on the ground without a quarterback as a running threat.

---True.

Those who stay might want to enjoy this as much as possible because the NCAA is eventually going to do what Ohio State couldn’t.

---Crying buckeyes.

It's weird how it goes back and forth between shots at Michigan and self-loathing.

He seems confused about a few things:

Those who stay will point to this game as proof that the sign stealing over the past two years had no impact on this rivalry, while completely ignoring the differences in margins of victory.

Without getting into the specifics of the nonsense in that statement, is the suggestion that the sign stealing is worth exactly 6 points? So, shall we take off 6 points from our score in 2021 and then win by a closer margin? And as for 2022, when OSU changed their signs, shall we still take off 6 points, or just 3, or zero? And if we do, what does that accomplish for OSU?

Those who stay will be lauded for their aggressiveness on fourth down despite attempting more field goals than Ohio State.

I think the implication is supposed to be they're the tougher team because we settled for more field goals. Pretty sure I don't have to explain the idiocy of this comment.

Those who stay will empower the conspiracy theorists by amplifying the hate in their hearts with an energized resolve.

Which conspiracy theorists? The ones who think the FBI is investigating Weiss and Stalions for point shaving?

Those who stay will get to bask in the patience of allowing their head coach seven years to get his first win in this rivalry.

Those who stay will think a coach should be fired for losing to you without seeing the irony.

We're not the ones saying to fire your coach. You are.

Those who stay will get final edits on the current narrative, even if nobody’s buying the plot.

He had a couple like this. It's true in Columbus and E.L. but, uh, sorry dude, everyone else actually buys it.

Those who stay will be champions…of the Big Ten.

Zing? I like being Big Ten champs.

Those who stay will eventually have fans who get as tired of losing in the playoffs as Ohio State fans have.

Not yet!

And those who stay will eventually be asked to leave.

Oh, what, you're going to kick us out of the Big Ten? Lol, don't have to ask me twice. Or does this mean Harbaugh, which, okay, the conference is determined to fire our coach. I'm aware.

These fucking assholes put up videos every single day about the "sign stealing scandal" once that story broke.  They did everything they could to convince that pathetic fanbase that it was sign stealing that turned the tide in this rivalry.  They dug their own grave on this one.  Michigan won and they have to walk that all back.  Fuck em!

What a bitch

Sorry, your team lost again. Own it.

Goodness, when OSU torched us in the Don Brown years, I could readily say they were better. What is so wrong with Bucknuts that they can't do this?

I always knew after  20 years of unreal success Ohio State and its fans would struggle if Michigan ever gained control of the rivalry again.  Here we are and its glorious.
