JJ's Draft Odds/Optimal Landing Spots
With the news of Cousins signing with Atlanta I took at look at the updated betting odds on Bovada for where JJ is most likely to get drafted. Surprisingly the Falcons are stil the 4th most likely team to draft him.
Below are the current odds to draft JJ. I guess the Falcons could still draft him at #8 then trade him. I have a feeling that a team like Seattle/Raiders/Rams might trade up into the top 10 to take him. I don't really like any of the top teams for him to be honest. Wouldn't mind seeing him in Seattle or with the Rams I guess.
What are your thoughts/predictions? Where would you like to see him end up?

With Jefferson, Addison, Hockenson, and a RB to be named later, not to mention the O-Line, JJ would destroy if he went to Minnesota. Do we like that he'd be in the NFC North? No. Would he be a great fit? Yes.
Yes. I feel like the Vikings would be a good fit and with the 11th pick at least 3 of the other QB's should be gone.
yeah, unfortunately that was a great landing spot that I didn't want to mention.
Alternatively, the Vikings might be looking for a day-one starter with lots of experience sitting behind a good OL and throwing to elite receivers wearing purple jerseys.
Are there any good options for that left, though, with Cousins and Wilson off the board? Maybe they sign a journeyman and have JJ as the starter in waiting.
As a Packers fan, strongly do not want JJ to go to the Vikings with that receiving corps.
My comment describes Michael Penix Jr.
As a Vikings fan, I do think that’s what they’ll do
JJ might refuse to play for the owner.

Are we canceling another guy? What'd this one tweet about 15 years ago?
Or is this because JJ's a Michigan man from Chicago and wouldn't want to spend four games a year smacking down his Bears and Lions?
EDIT: Just remembered Jim Stapleton. A quick google search reveals that maybe he was never a minority stakeholder of the Vikings? https://awfulannouncing.com/nfl/vikings-jim-stapleton-jim-harbaugh-john-bacon.html

Don’t let the facts get in the way of a fun narrative.

And yup, they did just that in signing Sam Darnold. QB in the draft for the Vikes looks likely, although they'd have to trade up as all the most recent mocks have JJ in the top 10, with some as high as top 5.
I really want him on my hometown Vikings. The JJ to JJ connection would be a blast. Addison and Hockenson give him some other solid weapons. And it seems like the front office would let him sit and develop a bit.
I would not mind seeing him anywhere except Washington and the NY Giants. I think those teams are going to be bad for the forseeable future and I think he would get ruined by ending up at one of those teams.
The ideal/likely spot would have been Pittsburgh, but they signed Wilson.
I'm not averse to the idea of landing in Detroit(!), as I still have lingering Goff-will-turn-into-a-pumpkin vibes.
In general, his needs are the same as any non-all-time-great-QB looking to start right away - a coach who will support him and change their system to suit him best, good-to-great lines on both sides of the ball, and a few playmakers for synergy. Detroit, Seattle, Minnesota and maybe LA are the spots for that, I think.
If he's willing to be a backup at first (and risk the Chad Henne career path, which while rewarding, is not exactly covered in glory), then you want to go to one of the league's top franchises - SF, KC, etc.

Signing Wilson has nothing to do with whether they'd draft JJ or not. Wilson is on a 1-year deal. They wouldn't be drafting JJ to start right away, so the Wilson signing means nothing in that regard.
I'm not averse to the idea of landing in Detroit(!)
Lions are in WIN NOW mode. They aren't drafting a QB high after just spending a 3rd round pick on a QB in last year's draft. That would be really dumb.
then you want to go to one of the league's top franchises - SF, KC, etc.
These teams are not drafting a QB in the first, lol. You're saying words just to say them.
I dont know where he'll end up but I do predict it will be one hell of a lot higher than most are predicting right now. If the first three go Williams, Maye & Daniels let's take a look at the rest of the teams drafting 4-13 and see how many need a long-term answer at QB
4) Arizona Cardinals - no (open to trade pick)
5) Los Angeles Chargers - no (want to trade pick)
6) New York Giants - need QB
7) Tennessee Titans - need QB
8) Atlanta Falcons - no (open to trade pick)
9) Chicago Bears - no (open to trade pick)
10) New York Jets - probably need developmental QB
11) Minnesota Vikings - need QB
12) Denver Broncos - need QB
13) Las Vegas Raiders - need QB
You've got five who definitely need a QB and let's say Fields goes to one of them (maybe). Cousins has signed with the Falcons and Baker is staying in Tampa Bay. That leaves four fighting for either McCarthy or Penix (Nix is only held in high regard by the media) so my guess is somebody is going to make a deal with the Chargers and move into the five slot for him or Penix.
My guess is it will be the Raiders because even though the Broncos want JJ badly they're in full tank mode right now and will be shooting for the #1 pick in next year's draft. If not the Raiders then either the Giants or the Titans will take him.
I wouldn't be shocked to see Minneapolis trade up.

Minnesota Vikings, Twins, Timberwolves, Wild...
Interestingly, not 1 Minnesota professional sports team wants to be associated with just "the cities" but rather with the entire state.
I'm going to assume you got autocorrected there, 01?
I really don't think TEN needs a QB. They have so many holes in that roster and Levis looked pretty good for them last year. If they're smart they'll sure up that OL before even thinking about getting a new QB
Tennessee has Levis. They aren't going QB this year.
Will Levis. The same Will Levis who completed 58.4% of passes which ranked him 52 out of 58 NFL QBs last year? That Will Levis?
There isnt a single person in the NFL OR Tennessee that thinks he's the long-term answer at QB there. Now, they may be in tank mode so he fits the bill just fine for that.
March 11th, 2024 at 11:31 PM ^
You're wrong grow old (I mean you might be right that Levis never becomes a tier 1 QB, just that Tennessee doesn't feel that way yet.)
Tennessee will take an OL at 7. I will wager you...🤝
The Raiders would be great landing spot for JJ. They won't get him unless they trade up, though. Imagine getting to play Jim and the Chargers twice a year, as well as the future battles with Mahomes. I'm actually sick of the Mahomes GOAT rodeo, and can't think of a better person than JJ to put an end to that nonsense.
March 11th, 2024 at 11:33 PM ^
All that would apply to Denver picking 1 slot ahead of Vegas too tho, right?!
And they've got Payton as their coach. Who do the Raidaz have again?
If Washington takes Jayden Daniels, I'd wager on NE taking JJ before they took Maye. If Washington takes Maye then I can totally see NE taking Jayden Daniels
Why would anyone tank for next year’s draft when they can draft a QB this year who is better than anyone coming out next year? The Broncos are going to lose regardless unless they somehow trade for a capable top tier starter, because a rookie is not going to win with that roster.
I've been on the Broncos, mostly because I know they've needed a QB for years. But I could see Vegas making the leap - especially since they started dealing today. To see the Raiders get a potential franchise QB over the Broncos (when they both have basically the same leverage for a draft-day trade) would be chef's kiss!
Anywhere but Minnesota, I can not imagine having to root against him...
I believe the Giants will take him or the Raiders jump up to take him in the top 10
There is also 'rumors' that he could be the 2nd or 3rd QB taken. Daniels declining all Combine health / interviews / throwing turn some off.
My Dark horse is New England taking him at 3 over Daniels....
My money is on the Broncos.
For his sake I hope he doesn't end up with the Giants. Either one of the NY teams would ruin his career before it even started. Even Aaron Rodgers couldn't make it five plays into the season before his his season with the Jets ended.
Vikings would be a really good landing spot for him because he'll have weapons around him. I don't know the state of their OL but he'd have the best WR in the league to throw to. Would just feel bad for all the Lions fans here who'd now have to root against him.
Him ending up in Denver would be a really interesting landing spot, as I think Sean Payton could work wonders with him over time. But Denver is probably going to be in really bad shape for a while as it continues to eat away at all the Russell Wilson dead money.
I'd say Denver might be the best spot for his career in the long run, as long as Sean Payton sticks around. But in the short term? Eeeesh, its gonna be a lean few years in Denver.
The antidote to Russell Wilson dead money? A good quarterback on a rookie deal. JJ McCarthy…come on down!
Minnesota would be smart to draft JJ and sign Gardner Minshew to 1/2 year deal, Let JJ develop. I'm a lions fans but I want JJ to go to the best situation for his career
Minshew signed with the Raiders today
Saw that after I posted. They signed Sam Darnold. He's a vet that can help a guy like JJ get adjusted. I still think Minnesota is the best landing spot for JJ
Want the BEARS to trade down and stockpile an arsenal around JJ.
Preach.
The Bears are a trash organization when it comes to QBs. That's probably the worst possible situation. 29 starting QBs since 2000, not one has passed for 4000 yards.
And? So Bears fans cannot want a Chicagoland native because of historical precedent? Better to actually have JJ be drafted by Bears after they trade down the 1 and up from 9.
The Bears have done an awful job at helping Justin Fields the last 3 years, what makes you think anything would change with JJ
From a rooting/non partisan interest I would prefer him to land in:
NY
NE
LAR
Seattle
Will suck if he lands in Minny, Denver, or Vegas.
I doubt he lasts long enough for Seattle or the Rams to be able to get him, unless either of them are willing to trade up.
Unless something comes up in his Pro Day that scares some teams away, its becoming increasingly likely that he's going to be gone within the first fifteen picks. Possibly within the top-10, especially on if a team gets desperate enough to trade up and get him.
I have no basis for it but have a weird feeling JJ ends up with Vikings.
Best situation imo would be Seattle where he can sit behind Geno for a year and where there's a solid WR corp and good RB corp. Vikings would be solid, but he'd probably be forced into the starting job immediately. I'd like the Broncos and Giants slightly less because their supporting casts aren't great
Too bad there aren't any coaches on Seattle who might have some familiarity with JJ.
Oh wait...
I see 4 of the first 5 picks being QBs, and as of now I’m thinking they could be in any order. Williams is not a lock for #1, as his prima Donna attitude won’t play well with some teams. I can actually see Chicago either trading out if the top spot or drafting Daniels, Maye, or even JJ #1.
Harbaugh will trade Herbert to the Giants for the #6 pick and he will take Blake and JJ at 5 and 6.
Harbaugh can trade Herbert to the Giants for the Giant's #6 pick in 2024, their 1st round pick in 2025, their 1st round pick in 2026, their 1st round pick in 2027, the Knicks' first rounders in the next four NBA drafts, Taylor Swift, and a small country to be named later.
No deal, Giants gotta throw in free lunches at Liebman's Deli for a year.
Have no idea where JJ will land but it would be interesting if the Rams got him. JJ and Harbaugh would both be in LA.
My prediction will be around 15 … that being the number of inane threads like this about JJ and the draft between now and, you know, the actual draft.
Snark aside you are surprised Atlanta is still the 4th favorite like, a handful of hours after the Cousins signing? Should be enough to tell you to wait a bit until the info is settled down.
