While it's stupid this was…

While it's stupid this was ever a rule, I concede that putting cream cheese on a bagel transforms it from a heavy snack to a light meal. There's something about a bagel and schmear that's more satisfying than eating 2 bagels, or a tub of cream cheese on its own.

I'm posting the link out of…

I'm posting the link out of pity for anyone who wants to read the article but is not awake enough to realize that putting "male model" and "back up" in their search string could have HR taking a closer look.

I don't get why people start…

I don't get why people start posts with "Sorry if already posted" (SIAP). If it's original, you just told on yourself that you didn't bother to thoroughly check. If it's not, you're still an unoriginal bastard.

Love you, Lando - you can assert without apologizing.

I think Zinter and Barrett…

I think Zinter and Barrett are going to be solid pros and draft-day bargains. Barrett may be a 7th rounder or UDFA, and I would love to see him playing in Detroit.

... and Jay Riemersma, and…

... and Jay Riemersma, and Zack Gentry

I think with the cost of…

I think with the cost of tickets going up and up, there is a push to entice more money by making the viewing experience more posh. While it sells tickets, it does detract from the overall experience.

I'm reminded of Paul Harvey's essay (which has a different title but I think of as) "We Tried to Make Things Better But We Made Them Worse.

SEC and Big10 breaking off…

SEC and Big10 breaking off is enough to destroy the NCAA. That doesn't mean that their new entity would be viable. They would both lose out for a few years, and a bunch of stuff would never be the same after.

Jim Harbaugh said, “I always…

Jim Harbaugh said, “I always encourage youngsters in America to play soccer. I think every American boy should play soccer until the eighth grade, then they should play football—American football.”

I'm going to add -- that after they get too old to play contact sports, they should take up curling.

Why would a QB leave Iowa,…

Why would a QB leave Iowa, with all the "teaching" they get from the offensive staff and the "leadership" from their starting QB.

Either you are have a…

Either you are have a terminal diagnosis (in which case, I am so sorry), or you and I think very differently about fandom. I think it's the latter, because watching our players get drafted (while good), isn't even as impactful as a cherry on top of a sundae. It's more like the sifted powdered sugar on top of something that was already a really nice dessert, and I would never get irate about powdered sugar, or the lack thereof.

I saw Cheez-Itz on Greg's…

I saw Cheez-Itz on Greg's counter. That is my absolute go-to #1 snack food.

It won't impact the draft…

It won't impact the draft stock of players. It won't directly impact any games. No more suspensions are coming that will directly impact the games.

Here's what lives on:

  1. Narratives. For as long as we remember that Jim McElwain has a special relationship with seafood, people will bring SignGate up in message boards and broadcasts.
  2. Legacy. There will be an idiot 1% who will always claim the championship is tarnished, but they will get quieter quickly. Anyone whining that OBJ giving Justin Jefferson a $2000 handshake tarnishes LSU's 2019 Natty is doing so quietly, with no one else listening. Also, lots of sports documentaries coming up.
  3. Headspace. Any narrative that gets loud enough could potentially impact a player or coach. Our team has shown remarkable resilience; long may that continue.
  4. Hiring. Everyone's getting vetted, which is probably net positive, but it takes time, which can have bad effects.
  5. Chris Partridge will likely never coach in college again. I hope he crushes it as the Seahawks OLB coach and uses that as a springboard to even bigger things.
My takeaway - Jim was there…

My takeaway - Jim was there for the hugs. I didn't see him looking at any of the drills -- he knew what his players could do. He was just there to see Grant's new haircut, bs with his dad, and collect hugs.

It reminds me of the year or two after I graduated when the firm sent me back to Ann Arbor on recruiting trips. Yes, I collected resumes, but I was in it to see my old friends who were still there.

That's not short! Neither is 5' 9" -- it's a good size (many women have told me so)!

Very similar to my…

Very similar to my experience. Paid $5 to get a seat at the Mud Hens ballpark, where there were some nice people who helped me repair my cereal-box pinhole camera. Aside from my son complaining about the horrible traffic from Metro Detroit, it was wonderful. It was like something out of a sci-fi movie -- a big freaking hole in the sky!

In the end, we spent about 5.5 hours in the car, roundtrip. Even dis-affected son agreed that the eclipse was cool, and probably would have been worth 4 hours in the car.

Senior year, engineering job…

Senior year, engineering job fair, so all of my friends who graduated last year and moved across the country are back in Ann Arbor to recruit. A bunch of us meet up at Ashley's. After the fourth person complained about the drivers in their city, my friend Nate observed one of the great truths of our time:

When you move to a new city -- regardless of the city -- the first thing you learn is that nobody there knows how to drive.

Michigan made way more…

Michigan made way more mistakes in the Rose Bowl. Take Michigan's punting and punt return game from the Rose Bowl and put it in the OSU game, and OSU is up on Michigan in the fourth quarter and probably pulls it out.

I'm not sure if it chocks my gaw, but it really cheeses my muffin that my smartwatch does not count steps when I'm pushing a shopping cart. (Watch on the wrist, wrist connected to hand, hand on grocery cart doesn't move up and down with each step.) I find myself trying to remember to put my watch in my pocket before going anywhere that I push a cart or a stroller or whatever.

Jeni's is right up there…

Jeni's is right up there with Charles Woodson on the short list of good things to come out of Columbus.

That sentence just made me feel many emotions in rapid succession. Thanks for sharing.

After 0.9 hours (54 minutes)…

After 0.9 hours (54 minutes), they have doubled their goal and are north of $100k. We need a gif to represent the Michigan Money Cannon.

It may not look like I'm…

It may not look like I'm doing much right now, but on a cellular level, there's a lot going on.

Are we canceling another guy…

Are we canceling another guy? What'd this one tweet about 15 years ago?

Or is this because JJ's a Michigan man from Chicago and wouldn't want to spend four games a year smacking down his Bears and Lions?

EDIT: Just remembered Jim Stapleton. A quick google search reveals that maybe he was never a minority stakeholder of the Vikings? https://awfulannouncing.com/nfl/vikings-jim-stapleton-jim-harbaugh-john-bacon.html

I'm with you -- if you can't…

I'm with you -- if you can't see most of the outline of the state, why bother? A bunch of these have the logo completely covering up the thumb, and almost all cover the Straits of Mackinac. What's the point of incorporating the outline of Michigan if you can't see any of its most noteworthy features?

I have gone back and re…

I have gone back and re-listened to some of the Attack Each Day podcast, where Jim and Jack basically just tell stories. Most of it is timeless.

It will be a great listen this off-season.

Love it!

BTW, saw the Podbean link and wanted to share that I have switched to the AntennaPod app, which is open sourced, and works like a charm for all my WTKA and MGoPod needs.

The Aneurysm of Leadership…

The Aneurysm of Leadership was a good thing.

Great points!

Great points!

My thing - 15 games is already too long a season for student athletes. Can we kill the conference title games? With playoff expanding and both teams going to playoff, they are pointless.  If there are multiple autobids in the conference, just give one to each division and get rid of the championship game. Or make the championship game round one of the playoffs.

This will never happen because $$$.

I'm a huge fan of the books…

I'm a huge fan of the books and enjoyed Part 1, but my takeaway from that was, "These planet leaders are really spending a lot in resources just to have 10,000 people stand in formation to watch a spaceship land." You'd think that maybe if they were a little more thrifty they wouldn't have to go to war over spice.

I had forgotten about the…

I had forgotten about the Jim Schwartz handshake! I remember wondering what caused that dustup -- it's great to have a little more info on it.

<<SPOILER>>

Harbaugh, in a pre-mediated way, shook the man's hand and slapped his back so hard that Schwartz was ready to fight!

Maybe on staff? Is there a…

Maybe on staff? Is there a new position called "recruiting closer?"

1) For Your Eyes Only. Shows Bond skiing and scuba diving

2) Hiro Nakamura (I always wanted to stop time)

3) Loki from Avengers (though Kerrigan is great!)

4) Yes. Giving complete attention to whatever you are doing IS what it's all about.

I'm not sure how much of…

I'm not sure how much of Blake not catching the ball was actively saving something for the CFP (and having another excellent receiving back on the team). He looked pretty good catching the ball in the Rose Bowl. In 2020, he had 5 catches vs. 26 carries, and in 2021, he had 24 catches vs. 144 carries.

I looked up ESPN's win…

I looked up ESPN's win probability graph - it's a little wonky because it won't let you zoom in - but it looks like as Alabama is getting ready to punt, M has a 52% chance to win, and on 1st and 10 from the 1, Alabama has a 70%* chance to win.

Between the muff and recovery, Alabama's win % probably goes up to 95% before coming back down. So you go from 52% to 5% to 30% all within the 10 seconds of that one play. [slow whistle]

*ESPN's prediction, not mine. I'd say that Michigan was probably higher before and after the punt, which would only make this a bigger swing.

It sucks that I had to buy…

It sucks that I had to buy Peacock, but since I did, why not find other stuff worth watching? Here's a few

  • The Olympics: Gonna get my handball fix
  • The Traitors: Best trash reality TV around
  • Rutherford Falls: Ed Helms's new comedy
  • Bumper in Berlin: Pitch Perfect spin off
  • Classics: The Office, Parks and Rec, 30 Rock, SNL, etc.
I think Arnold's comedic…

I think Arnold's comedic chops are under-rated. I could watch Commando twice in a row.

Guys, it's a "petite D." This stuff practically writes itself.

Not even then.

Not even then.

I'll bet anyone a dollar…

I'll bet anyone a dollar that by the time his career is done, Pat Mahomes will have the record for most Super Bowl interceptions in a career (Current leader, John Elway with 8, Mahomes has 5). And he won't come close to TB's 21 TDs (Mahomes has 7).

I agree, it's no comparison,…

I agree, it's no comparison, but Manning did go to 4 Super Bowls and won 2. And since it is very difficult to get to a Super Bowl, I will posit that 2-2 is a much better record than 2-0.

But these stats don't compare with Mahomes or Bradshaw. I'd put him in a tier below with Elway, and maybe lump in Aikman.

  • Peyton Manning: 4 Games (2-2), 103-155, 1001 yards, 3TD, 5 INT
  • John Elway: 5 Games (2-3) 76-152, 1128 yards, 3TD, 8 INT
  • Troy Aikman: 3 Games (3-0) 56-80, 689 yards, 5TD, 1 INT
Maybe that's why he made so…

Maybe that's why he made so many commercials? Seriously, his retirement did not lead to a measurable decrease in the amount of Tom Brady in this year's Super Bowl.

How many more years in this…

How many more years in this system does Steve Clinkscale need before he can run the system as the DC?

Even if I had $100,000,000…

Even if I had $100,000,000 burning a hole in my pocket, "go back to alma mater and demand firing of a guy who has given approximately one interview in the past year because some message board guys are freaking out" would still be pretty low on my priority list.

I saw the RV quote pop up on…

I saw the RV quote pop up on my Google newsfeed. I anticipate that I will continue to follow Michigan, and that the more interesting Jim Harbaugh stories will find me. I have faith that the MGoBoard will frequently post stories about Jim Harbaugh, notable alum and a football coach.
