If I had to guess he got an NIL offer from somewhere else plus a guaranteed starting job? But yeah, this is a shocker. I guess it's officially Jyaire Hill time
The actual rule is, "this is the rule at the time, but if at a later point we decide that it was created in error, those who suffer from it will be excused."
By this logic, Michigan should immediately have any and all punishment from the Stalions scandal dropped since the NCAA is implementing helmet coms and we know that won't happen
So will the NCAA repeal our punishments once they implement helmet comms? Because to me, once you start repealing punishments from the past due to recent rules implementations, that's a slippery slope
This has literally already started. The funny thing is that OSU fans still think that not offering someone Michigan wants or having another player higher on their board is a flex
Meanwhile, FAU SG Johnell Davis is seemingly between Kentucky and Arkansas.
I've noticed with Bama in football as well, but it's odd to me that for both Bama and UK, two perennial recruiting powers in their sports who lost their famous head coaches, that recruits have seemingly forgotten that Saban and Calipari aren't there anymore? Like are their brands that good that recruits don't care?
I'm not counting my eggs before they've hatched. We have multiple sophomore transfer commits at this point and I'm not gonna assume admissions has accepted their credits until these guys are officially announced
I mean you can’t have it both ways though. Harbaugh leaving with the whole defensive staff would likely mean that any punishment from the NCAA is going to be nothing because the apparent involved parties are gone
I know there’s inevitably going to be negative comments on this thread about Dusty going to visit frats, but anyone who has complained about how bad the Maize Rage has been recently (and they would be correct), should be very excited about this. Getting the support and attendance of greek life at basketball games will do wonders for attendance and the energy at basketball games and it’s great that Dusty understands this
My pre-spring game hot take is that Jadyn Davis is gonna look good enough compared to the other QB options to where the question of him starting will begin to arise
they've been focusing on dropback passing with Orji
Not exactly what you want to hear about your projected starting QB. Also interesting that USC would be competition for a QB in the portal since they have Miller Moss and just brought in that UNLV QB. If Moss, gets replaced, I’d gladly take him
I mean is there really anything to complain about with this staff? Brought in a team handful of good recruiters, an assistant with head coaching and defensive experience, multiple assistants who have experience running his system, and Kyle Church who everyone expected to replace him at FAU. Sounds like a pretty damn good staff
I mean wasn't a large part of that due to NIL? Obviously that needs to be taken into account now, but if NIL wasn't a factor, a good portion of Bennett Warren, Michael Uini, Smith twins, Aaron Chiles and in turn Darien Mayo, Elias Rudolph, Justin Scott, Zaquan Patterson, and Boo Carter end up in this class from what I understood. Kinda sucks that with how our NIL currently stands we will lose battles with players we have superior relationships with
The 2025 class on offense should be on par or better than normal. Defense is where I'm a bit worried just because, as you mentioned, there's so many new faces
Ideally, with Orji at QB plus Mullings and Edwards, we should be in 3rd and long situations much less often and hopefully be in 4 down territory more frequently
OSU fans convinced themselves McCord was the problem, but there isn't a QB on their roster rn better than him. It seems like a few OSU fans are slowly realizing it, but others do not and are still running with McCord being a "Syracuse level QB"
It'll be a combination of meltdown calling for Day's head from the majority of the fanbase then a minority of the fanbase who push the goalposts and make absurd excuses for Day how he continues to underachieve with these teams. They'll come up with something similar to this year who they claimed McCord was a "Syracuse level QB"
It's funny because there are OSU fans who firmly know it's Natty or bust for Ryan Day then there are also some OSU fans absolutely in denial who are setting their expectations low on purpose knowing Day underperforms. If Day doesn't beat Michigan this year or doesn't make the final 4 in the playoff, there's zero chance he's back next year
OSU fans will insist they haven't bought a team, but then their entire staff and team is making a significant amount more than comparable teams. Not to mention they looked pretty mid during their spring game today...
Fanatics has basically a monopoly over the entire sports apparel/uniforms business now and they're simultaneously ruining it by cutting costs and lowering quality. I essentially only buy from 47' Brand and Champion now because I think they're the best quality and not associated with Fanatics. Feels like Fanatics is one of the most blatantly obvious monopolies in the country rn, but I don't really have any faith in the US government to make a monopoly in the sports apparel industry close to a priority
Yeah, I don't think anyone actually has any hard evidence he's an MSU lean besides Izzo and Kampe being connected and maybe that MSU has a need at that spot, but we do too. No MSU insider has put in a crystal ball, which they are usually pretty liberal in doing. Also, taking a visit to Michigan before MSU seems notable if he was actually a presumed MSU lean
While his stats weren't great last season, he passed the eye test on both sides of the floor imo similar to how Kobe Bufkin looked his freshman year. Fingers crossed Washington can make a similar jump
Will Howard was mid at KSU and basically lost his job to a freshman. Howard has NFL athleticism, but he never showed he had the arm talent to succeed in OSU's offense. I'm not sure why people were so hyped on him
Howard was active internationally in additional to Franz. YoYo Khayat, Lee Aaliya, and we also almost got Australian Johnny Furphy who ended up at Kansas. Could also technically throw in Papa Kante, Caleb Houstan, and Moussa Diabate
Gonna be interesting to see how much this staff dives into international recruiting. Michigan has historically recruited internationally pretty well under Beilein and Howard, May seems to be into recruiting globally, then bringing in the Associate HC from St Mary's, which historically has really emphasized international recruiting, seems like a recipe for May looking to maximize bringing in talent from outside the US. This could definitely end up being a worthwhile strategy given that top end international talent seems to be catching up with or surpassing US talent (look at the NBA lottery picks this year and last few seasons) and you also don't really have to worry about NIL with them
Smith has all the raw talent in the world, but he needs to refine his mechanics big time. He's got raw athleticism and great pure arm talent, but he still looks like a baseball player out there. Needs to work with a QB coach to really get his mechanics right
What happens when the players you have aren't worth retaining?
My understanding is that all players are getting a baseline amount plus their personal NIL deals then the good players are getting extra from collectives. If players aren't worth retaining, then they can seek opportunities elsewhere
Also, if it's ok to pay stop-gap portal players, why not pay elite HS targets?
I never said it wasn't "ok," but from an NIL perspective it's likely more worthwhile to pay players that are proven at the college level. I think there's definitely some positions where you need to pay them to get them on campus
The Michigan approach isn’t cash on the table up front.
I never said it was. But I think Michigan has the resources to make a plan or do some calculations to show that even if Underwood doesn't get cash up front that Underwood going to Michigan would make him more money in the long run

A change of scenery from being in a two way race for a starting job being "best?" Yeah, no
If I had to guess he got an NIL offer from somewhere else plus a guaranteed starting job? But yeah, this is a shocker. I guess it's officially Jyaire Hill time
We were in on him, but not sure we "almost" got him

If you enjoy tenacious run blocking to an almost hilarious degree, watch Gach's Hudl highlights

Hoping we can move Jace to being a walk on and bring back in Rooths
Watching his highlights had me thinking "Wow, there's a lot to like here and once he goes through Camp Sander... oh wait sigh"

The defensive staff was literally just finished in the past few weeks and it’s like a year until signing day
It will never fail to amaze me at what things people can needlessly bring politics into
Because fraternities and greek life are divisive topics generally speaking

The thing that's refreshing about May that we didn't see with Juwan is that I can see the vision of the team he's putting together
In the past few weeks
I'd imagine this tweet is related?
Cole Sullivan is gonna be a dude. Made his impact felt in the late snaps he was in
There appears to be some Michigan buzz around North Texas grad transfer guard Rubin Jones on Twitter
My pre-spring game hot take is that Jadyn Davis is gonna look good enough compared to the other QB options to where the question of him starting will begin to arise
Really hope we can get a commit or two this weekend and start building some momentum

I mean typically in those cases your head coach doesn’t leave for the NFL and take the entire defensive staff with him
There's only 3 groups of people who still care about the Stalions scandal:

Didn't we do something similar last year where we had a flurry of silent commits all announce at once?
Ideally, with Orji at QB plus Mullings and Edwards, we should be in 3rd and long situations much less often and hopefully be in 4 down territory more frequently
OSU fans convinced themselves McCord was the problem, but there isn't a QB on their roster rn better than him. It seems like a few OSU fans are slowly realizing it, but others do not and are still running with McCord being a "Syracuse level QB"
If Julian Sayin is actually rising to be competing for the starting job, that's awful news for OSU's QB situation

What are you talking about? We are in on or lead for a handful of top transfers in the country and you're complaining?
Yeah, I don't think anyone actually has any hard evidence he's an MSU lean besides Izzo and Kampe being connected and maybe that MSU has a need at that spot, but we do too. I like this move as well. His shot wasn't going down but I liked what I saw from him generally speaking for a freshman
His freshman year kinda reminded me of Kobe Bufkin. He passed the eye test and he seemed to do the right things, but his shot would just not go down
While his stats weren't great last season, he passed the eye test on both sides of the floor imo similar to how Kobe Bufkin looked his freshman year. Fingers crossed Washington can make a similar jump

You can't convince me that's good for OSU based on what we saw in their bowl game
Howard was active internationally in additional to Franz. YoYo Khayat, Lee Aaliya, and we also almost got Australian Johnny Furphy who ended up at Kansas. Could also technically throw in Papa Kante, Caleb Houstan, and Moussa Diabate
