Trouba missed, and committed…

Trouba missed, and committed a boarding penalty on himself.  This was an opportunity for an on-ice official to make a legendary call!  But they missed, too.

Until there is the…

Until there is the equivalent of a "salary cap" in college sports, the competitive landscape will be shaped by whoever can generate the most revenue.  Right now NIL is the only way money is "officially" being channeled to athletes (no AD or university is currently sharing ticket or rights revenue).  Hiring someone with the background of Ms. Whitehead signals that the UM AD leadership understands this, and is all-in on staying competitive.  Now, just like any head coach, she needs to perform.  I can't wait to see what the box score looks like for this!

Trouba's skate hitting the…

Trouba's skate hitting the player in the back of the head upon landing is very scary.  Blades should never be that near to the neck.  Losing body control due to your own actions and having your skates go flying in the air is not a good look.

It feels like 2024 might resemble 2016 in a lot of ways--carried by the defense and on the edge of playoff qualification depending on the maturation of the offense.  At least the expanded playoffs give us a greater margin for error than the 2016 season.

Shouldn't the comment …

Shouldn't the comment "quarterback is the question mark" apply to OSU as well?

Seamus Casey was the most important contributor on one of the most lethal power plays in NCAA history.  His dynamic skating and distribution skills are likely to be the most underrated off-season loss.  Selfishly, I'll miss watching him tilt the ice--but wish him all the best on his next adventure.

Within the state of Michigan…

Within the state of Michigan, the community colleges, four year colleges, and universities (both public and private) participate in the Michigan Transfer Agreement.  Cooperation among ~70 schools has created a very transparent transfer equivalence of general education credits.  Both UM and MSU are full participants.

Speaking from personal experience, it's a great program.  My daughter knew exactly what classes at community college would transfer where (so did the counseling staff).  UM was one of several schools to offer mentoring resources to interested students.  Best of all, her transfer path will be to UM in the fall!

Not relevant in this case.  Suggs graduated last weekend per 247sports.

In any case, the MTA is a great benefit to transfer students.  It's an agreement where the exact mapping of allowed class transfers among schools within Michigan is spelled out in advance.  No surprises under the MTA.

Arkansas has a deep donor…

Arkansas has a deep donor pool with the Tyson and Walton families.  They are one of the few who can go toe-to-toe with the Kentucky donors in MBB.  I don't know that Cal has burned a bridge as much as not met monied donor's unreasonable expectations for success.  My money is on his continued underperformance with one-and-dones.

I heard they invented the double-barrel shotgun in Minnesota b/c the first round often didn't bring the mosquito down.

In SoCal, housing starts at $800/sf.  In the townships surrounding Ann Arbor, it is $250/sf.  I traded a 1000 sf condo in San Diego for 3000 sf/5br/multiple acres just outside of AA city (10 min drive to downtown).  I am one of four California "refugee" families in our neighborhood!  From a housing cost perspective, it isn't a question.

Of all the sports, football…

Of all the sports, football carries the shortest career length.  I hate the turnover for selfish reasons, but the only good decision of mid/high round draft targets is to go get paid.

Reaching back a little…

Reaching back a little further, and given his forward position, I'd like to see his progression develop into the next Glen Rice.

The major issue with the portal is length of the contract.  Right now, everyone is a free agent every year.  I don't blame Jay Wright, John Beilein, or Nick Saban for bailing on this phase of the product.  In the absence of any longer term commitment requirements, why even have a portal at all?

Petco Park has over 80 craft beers available.  When I was a season ticket holder (pre COVID) Elysian Space Dust was one of the house taps.  It was a challenge to walk home from the game (uphill) some nights.

Seattle and San Francisco are a dead heat for second best west coast ballpark.  Anaheim is notable for having nothing notable about it.  Dodger stadium suffers from the same disease as Wrigley--too many fans are there to be seen, not to watch baseball.

The two other place that stand out in my mind are Camden Yards, the one that started the better ballpark boom, and walking over the Clemente bridge from a downtown Pittsburgh watering hole to PNC.

The other crazy part is this was accomplished with the starting rotation only playing 40 minutes in half the games.

It's been a while since we had a cold-blooded shooter on the roster.  "Nick Stauskas but tall" -- Fred Jackson probably.

Was there any depth besides Samaha?  It feels good to have options in case of a wounded kicker (mentally or physically).

We have an amazing five-year run of successful kicking.  There are so many good things that come from confidence in the kicking game.  This is an outstanding addition to the roster.

The semifinal game will be televised on B1G Network at 6pm on Thursday, May 2.  Johns Hopkins is the B1G regular season champ and #1 seed in the tournament.  A victory here would be an epic result.

My first thought:  "OMG, someone else has a commissioner as stupid as Tiny Tony."

My second thought: "Inconceivable."

I have accumulated enough peripheral circulation damage that I can no longer attend cold weather events. There is zero nostalgia associated with playing or watching in extreme conditions.   I have bitter memories of being forced to participate in my own permanent impairment by adults with Neanderthal sensibilities.

Question for the board:  is there really a 13 scholarship limit given the NIL resources potentially available?   It seems like the 85 scholarship limit for FB is toast--same for MBB?

The #1 problem with youth sports is the adults.

I'll take the under [edit: meaning lower than 6 seed] , and happily admit my error when I'm wrong.  I expect an up-and-down experience--fastened seatbelts necessary.   I think it will take a late push to make the tournament, but the team at tourney time will be playing 2-3 seed lines higher than their full season record.

Or maybe his decision is giving the Hawkeye coaching staff the Deacon Blues . . .

He's unlikely to see much…

He's unlikely to see much playing time in year one, but the coaching staff knows what he brings to the gym.  At a minimum Cason will fill a nice role on the practice squad, and will have a chance to improve his game.  Coach feels he has enough talent to give him a chance.  What's not to like about trying to develop a guard with size and handle?

Agreed.  A little too much…

Agreed.  A little too much nostalgia wishing for Sanderson, when the evidence of his impact waned in the last couple years.  He is also at fault for not playing an adult in the incident with the Howards.  I hope he is successful in his next stop, but his time here had passed.

Great article pointing out…

Great article pointing out some skills that translate across sports.  JJ showed amazing spatial awareness getting off several passes before crossing the line of scrimmage.  The similarity to staying onside in hockey isn't an accident.

Mine is a 2006 with the V6--same generation as yours.  It has been and still is completely reliable, and I don't really "need" a new vehicle.  I added a new head unit for Android Auto, backup camera, and Sirius XM which was enough tech upgrade to make it tolerable to drive today.

I'm thinking about upgrading…

I'm thinking about upgrading my venerable (250K miles) 4Runner with the new iteration of either the Lexus GX550 or the Land Cruiser.  But if I'm honest, the car I really want back is my 1980 911 Targa (sold for a down payment).   Ironically, they would be about the same price today.

Glad to see a mix of 1 year, 2 year, and 3+ years of eligibility.  It's a nice balance to ensure competitiveness now and continuity going forward.  Not to mention there are multiple options for each role.

I am looking forward to a watching games where we have more than one ball handler, and have guards with a physical advantage.  Jones looks really, really strong.  Dusty must have liked what he saw in an opponent, and that is a great compliment to the player!

Jones is listed as a 6'5", 190lb shooting guard.  As a junior, made the CUSA all defense team.  Shot 37% from deep for career.  Missed 1/3 of his games senior year with a hamstring injury.  Graduated as the winningest player ever at North Texas.  One year of eligibility left.

Just like football.

Even more dominant than football.
