Spent some time with him on his visit. He was with my son's good friend - a former Purdue player and now one of Carter's Bishop Verot coaches. Sharp kid. Family seems great. Really vibed with JJ and Denard. He might be the guy, if Davis isn't.
This is a highly underrated pickup. Great athlete. Fastest kid on his team, which includes a Buckeye DB commit. Great leader. Comes from a solid family. Has quite a bit of JJ to him. Could be something special.
Met his father at the '21 Orange Bowl semifinal. Impressive man who was bought in to Harbaugh's approach and said it was up to his son to earn everything. Pulled hard for RJ from then on. Hope he does well wherever he lands.
Went to the Tigers/Rays opener and came away really impressed by the changes. Found myself focused in on the clock for the first inning or so but then eventually forgot about it. The game moved briskly and kept the crowd’s focus. Luckily, the beverage lines were short in my section so there wasn’t much time missed replenishing. It was enough of a change that I’ll probably attend a few more games than usual this year.
Recently sold our home in Ft. Myers and are safe and sound in the comforts of Ann Arbor this month, but have to deal with the fear and concern for two young adult sons and loads of friends and colleagues all within the current target. The missus is having an especially rough go at the moment. As Mr. Petty said, the waiting truly is the hardest part.
Might not sound like much but September football in Ann Arbor has become our bucket list. Wife is undergoing treatment for cancer recurrence, so we sold the house and plan to travel the country living the “life’s too short” mantra as soon as her treatment ends. And it will start with a month stay in A2 and four home football games. Sold season tickets 20 years ago to move to Florida and the return visits have been far too infrequent. Looking forward to rectifying that starting Labor Day weekend.
Shaking up a Bee’s Knees, which has become our pandemic cocktail of choice, followed by a nice bottle of Fracture, a central coast Syrah from Booker. All paired with a meal of “clean out the fridge” leftovers ranging from chicken piccata to carnitas to sausage and meatballs in marinara.
Just returned from a Mexican-themed Christmas party in which we discovered the magic that happens combining some Flor de Cana rum with homemade Horchata. The glow is magnificent.
Having done the Uber/Lyft ride for a game at Hard Rock Stadium, I can tell you this. Going in - it seems like the best move you could ever make. Trying to get one after the game, however, can be a total cluster. If you do, I'd suggest you walk over to the row of drive-though restaurants on NW 27th and call for your ride there.
Lauderdale is a solid choice to stay. That's what we're doing, but I plan to drive and deal with it. Then again, I also plan to hold off my drinking until post game - either in celebration or sorrow.

Let’s see - a night out at one of Tampa’s finer restaurants or a 4-hour commercial filled slog in a game that has zero chance of erasing the current feeling of despair?
AJ makes things exciting on punts, but I really miss having someone like Peppers back there to field every single punt no matter where its kicked. Henning let a couple go that cost us big yards in crucial times.
Upon review, I think Cade was fantastic - took what was available, stood in and delivered under pressure time and again, gave us every opportunity to win. Couldn’t have asked for a better effort out of the type of QB he is. Lack of deep balls were irrelevant. Corum had a rough game beyond the dropped pass. Really made some poor cut decisions. Some MA’s by the OL really hurt us inside the 20 that turned 7 into 3. Obviously, the JJ mesh point fumble was the tide turner, and its easy in hindsight to blame coaching for that play call given the situation, but if they had confidence in execution in practice, you dial it up. Back luck that Cade was getting treatment and we had to make a change. All said, the offense played well enough for a victory.
I, too, have fond enough recollections of Mr. Ufer to pay homage to him this blog. It may have been 40 years ago, but the memory of this game and that play is crystal clear. I was making my way to my parents seats (section 12) after sitting with some high school buddies at the opposite end. Walked inside the section entrance just as the play begin. The eruption as Carter maintained his balance and began to break free still brings chills. Spent the next few minutes hugging random strangers and basking in the glow.
Heading to St. Pete for the weekend to push aside some bad news if only for a bit. Lots of drinking, eating and pampering with some occasional tears, I imagine. But fuck it, life is what it is. Onward.

There are very few “easy” games, based on what we are seeing this year across the CFB landscape (Bama excluded), which I think plays to Michigan’s advantage. Every game in the NFL is a battle. Macdonald and Harbaugh should have each side prepped accordingly.
