Got back to our Michigan lake house at midnight last night. Just had some Dragon’s Milk on our deck while watching the rain on the lake. Not too bad.
Good choice. I’ve started the evening with a Spanish Rioja.
Private Release Barrel Bourbon here. Happy weekend!
Nice! I actually picked this Wilderness Trail Rye barrel. Quite the experience! If you ever get a chance, check out Wilderness Trail, really cool distillery, great story & fantastic product!
I’m in Bardstown for the weekend. Looks like they are booked this weekend though. I’m pretty local, so I’ll try later.
I’m about forty minutes from buffalo trace, so I’ve been going there every once in a while to wait in line and get their bourbon of the day. I still haven’t hit on Weller day. I’ll keep trying though.
What is the Wilderness Rye like?
I have one more week before beginning my new job but I’m going to start celebrating a little early. My coworkers got me several varieties of beers from all over the place. I think I will try one of each tonight. Cheers!
A Willet's straight bourbon recently gifted by the brother-in-law and an export helles lager from a local brewery here in the DMV.
Watching “Jurassic World Dominion” is driving me to drink wood alcohol.
Jesus, this movie is a mess.
No,I rented it for $20.
Yes, I am a fucking idiot for doing that.
Lol. I noticed after posting my reply it was available to rent on Xfinity.
I don't like those guys who munch on their popcorn super loud for the entire movie.
So its not worth seeing? Still in the theaters here. A couple weeks ago I went to see Maverick and it was good.
Woodford Reserve is the good stuff for me
Double Oaked on the rocks as I’m reading this. Cheers!
Long Island. Delicious and only need one to get a decent buzz (because, ya know, it’s actually 3-4 drinks in one)
“Blackout in a glass”
Reminds me of good time Charlie’s. I always remember entering. Exiting, a little more dicey
Can I check your ID?
Was working at a country club, lunch shift, and made myself a LIT one for the road, since I wasn't driving. I was biking three miles instead. I made it is about all I can say!
Sam Adams Summer Ale, because the A/C broke.
Good beer and beautiful color scheme
I had a bottle of their Porch Rocker, as the MGoGirlfriend brought home dinner from Costco. Some sort of Asian chicken & veggie & noodles combo. Both were highly satisfactory.
We had that while watching season 1 of "The Crown." Yes, we know we're late to the party on that, but we're enjoying it immensely. Three things I've noticed:
1. Claire Foy is just as talented as she is gorgeous. 2. This thing must have cost a fortune just in wardrobes. 3. British TV will never miss the chance to make Edward VIII look like an asshole.
I am trying Sierra Nevada Powder Day IPA for the first time ever tonight. I also managed to score a 4-pack of 120-minute but I’m saving that. Haven’t had it in a few years now and can’t wait.
Do not save 120-minute. Any IPA over 8% you really want to drink it immediately. In the case of 120-minute you are talking about a massive amount of aromatic hops used in the dry hopping process to balance out the 15%+ amount of booze it has. If you sit on it then it will just taste boozy and sweet and that it. That being said I wouldn't drink more than 1 in a sitting.
This is sage advice for super boozy IPAs.
Nah, this is overly absolutist.
In fact, this is what Dogfish has to say about it (and it's common to age 120s) in a blog post about aging beers:
120 Minute IPA, Olde School and Immort Ale are all great candidates for aging.
"It's like your stereo system," says former Dogfish Head Quality Control Manager Rebecca Newman. "If you like it really tinny and not very bass-y, you adjust that. Think of beer coming out of the brewery as really tinny, really sharp, really crisp. Over time, those bass notes – those bigger, fuller, sweeter, malty flavors – come up, and a lot of the sharpness is diminished. So, what do you like: bass or treble?"
And this on the 120 product description:
We brew 120 Minute IPA a few times a year, but it goes fast. If you find some grab a few bottles -- some to enjoy and some to age.
It can be fun to experiment with how different lengths of aging strong, malty beers impacts the flavor and 120 is a rare "IPA" that qualifies as a highly malty, savable beer. It's as much barleywine as it is IPA (the long two hour boil caramelizes the sugar which is what gives it the brown color and caramel flavor like a barleywine). So age away if sweeter and maltier is your jam! (and while I think people should drink beer however they want, I would suggest, like Dogfish does, drinking some fresh along with aging a bottle or two - fun to see how it changes!)
PBR of course. have some founders porter and old rasputin russian imperial stout left over from this spring too. probably dip into some scotch tonight as my son is visiting this weekend. oban 18 or maybe some little bay. pretty sure i have some glenlivet 18 also.
purple hulk on deck to smoke as well
Growler of Springbok from Sweetwater in northern VA. They usually have 6-8 beers available by growler. Good stuff.
2018 Thomas Pico Domaine Pattie’s Loup Chablis and Oysters
Blanton's SFTB nice and do I spy a W12 back there too? Anyway, drinking a Hill Farmstead Susan right now.
You do spy a Weller 12 year, its about gone. There's a Weller 107 behind the bunch as well.
I have a couple of OWA's in the basement and a couple of WFP... can't ever seem to find 12 though.
Here in Michigan, you can't find any Weller's.
Can hardly find them in Indiana unless it's special events. Think I've found OWA on the counter once.
I would gladly trade a W12 for a WFP, if that's something you'd entertain.
Looks like a couple ECBP's and a Heaven Hill BIB. Any idea which batches the ECBP are? How do you like the Heaven Hill?
I have A121, B521, and C920. Only the A is open and it's excellent.
Susan is great by the way. Want to trade? North Park Beer company and Pure Project is in the level. Can get Cellarmaker and Humble Sea or here too.
Buddy went on a road trip and brought some back (along with Fidens and Other Half). North Park is great but there's nothing worth trading in my neck of the woods other than 450N and I don't like that stuff so I never make it over there.
There's an A118, C119 and B520. I believe ther might be another 1 or 2 in the bourbon bunker.
Thanks Booted 👍. I have an A121, B520 and a couple private barrels of ECBP bunkered. Just opened a different private barrel my BIL got me. Also working on a C919 and C918.
Cheers 🥃
Edit, C918 is empty. Not sure how that happened 🥴😋
My recent vacation took me through bourbon country. Ended up with two ecbp store picks. Will share will you on next swap.
Hey, so cool. Hope you had a great vacation. Seems like there are numerous private barrels out there where as before I never saw any. I will definitely save some of mine for the swap 🥃👍
I'm heading over to Kalkaska to pick up some Indica flavored flower. Too much of my current stash is composed of high-percentage sativas that are making me a little jumpy.
Michigan native here who's quite familiar with the NW Lower Peninsula ...
Kalkaska? Is that known in the area for its green mile (or the equivalent)? Or (semi-personal question here) do you live in the woods nearby?
I live near Torch Lake north of Elk Rapids. Kalkaska has 6 or 7 *recreational* stores.
Double post, go blue.
Hey OP, any chance you’re wearing a T-shirt in keeping with the theme of this thread…?
