It's been a great week and it's never too late to start a drinking thread!

So I'm celebration of an amazing finish to our recruiting I'm polishing off a few Focal Bangers and getting ready to read the Iowa UFR. It's cold as hell in San Diego (40's) and feeling a lot like Christmas.

What's in your cup and what are y'all up to this weekend?

At Bottleworks Hotel in downtown Indy with my gorgeous Indy wife celebrating our 17th anniversary. Hotel is an historic Coca Cola bottling warehouse recently converted to an incredible hotel.  Hot buttered rum cocktail in hand and good thoughts in my mind. Grateful and blessed - happy to share the moment with my Internet mgofriends.

Also in San Diego...according to my phone it's mid to high 50's right now.  I'm definitely bundled up though (wearing socks).  Currently consuming Hochstadter's Slow & Low Rock and Rye, with some Knob Creek bourbon to give it a lil extra kick.

Been meaning to ask, for anyone else did winning the Game and the B1G championship feel like winning the Super Bowl in back to back weeks?

good question, and yes.  but if i had to pick one, it was beating ohio in any fashion, and much more in the beat down we put on them.

(Sung to the tune of the OSU Fight Song)

Liquidate Ohio State and turn the Buckeyes blue.
They breed a lot of cattle in Columbus,
It looks just like a zoo.

Knock them off their ivory towers,
Send them crawling into the showers,
Down with Ohio State,
Its a know-nothing party school!

They say the girls who go to O.S.U.,
Are husband hunting dames,
They dig the jocks who got the killer instinct,
Not the boys with brains.

At Columbus you're way ahead,
With straight A's in Physical Ed,
Down with Ohio State,
It's a know-nothing party school.

Bust your guts for Tressel!
Move your butts for Tressel!

Liquidate Ohio State and turn the Buckeyes blue,
They breed a lot of cattle in Columbus,
It looks just like a zoo. Rah! Rah! Rah!

Knock them off their ivory towers,
Send them crawling into the showers,
Down with Ohio State,
It's a know-nothing party schoooooooooool!

It did feel a bit like winning the SB. And, to make it even better, our 12 year old grandson, Michigan Super Fan got to watch both games with his Grandpa...two glorious weekends back-to-back!!!

Otherwise, today (Saturday) is one of our family's most favorite and glorious days of the year-it's Christmas Candy-Making Day! Said 12 year old came last evening to help begin with the preparations...we made our homemade caramel-which is also a base for several other candies. We also drained about 100 maraschino cherries and stuck them in the freezer-they will become our signature product...chocolate covered cherries. When the dust has cleared we will have converted 8 to 10 pounds of chocolate into all sorts of delectable treats...turtles, peanut butter balls, cherries, peanuts, pretzels...

We have been doing this for many, many years. It was fun pulling up the pictures last evening...going back to when Oliver was 18 moths old-of he and his then 4 year old brother participating for the first time. Today they are competent, fully-engaged participants. It's going to be a riotously fun, enjoyable day...and our friends, neighbors and extended family will be very happy too :)

Four tasters at Optimism in Seattle. Quadrupel, winter, bbis, barleywine. None great. None awful. Now at Growler Guys on good old Lake City Way with Brew 5000 from Fremont. One word. Gold. Other word. Barleywine.

It's great.

To be.

splash of red pop in a coffee cup.

two high school basketball games tonight (a son won, a daughter lost)

great recruiting finish.  glad for our team.  completely stoked about what will happen in 2 weeks.

had 3 Christmas days in S.D.  pretty, but very happy to be home up north for Christmas and, Lord willing, for the rest of my life.  i did use to joke about what californians called 'cold'.  i remember seeing people wearing down vests when the temps plunged into the 70's.

EDIT:  maybe of interest, we had a pretty epic windstorm up here for a day and a half.  power out to to hundreds of thousands up north.  we live in the boonies so not much in the way of neighbors, but i am the only house with power for a couple of miles around.  i installled a generator about 3 weeks after buying the farm years ago.  it has paid for itself a 100 times over with the number of times it has saved our bacon over the years.

I hear you on the wind. Out here on the wide-open Kansas prairie we had hours of 50-60 mph sustained winds with gusts reported to be over 90. We lost power at 3:30 in the afternoon. We have a generator that we can manually plug into our system but since heat and water were not an issue for us I decided to wait until the morning, when things would hopefully calm down, to fire up said generator. Thankfully, we were awakened around 2 AM by everything clicking back on.

i guess you guys are used to that wind on the plains, and maybe the difference here are the greater amount of trees that wipe out power lines?  i think our top gusts were 60+, and i had about a 4' hole blown in our barn roof.  fixed it, but i think more decking replacement will be needed in a couple of spots.

incidentally, saw your post above re: Christmas candy making.  sounds like a great day, indeed.  post pictures of the produced candies and be the envy of mgoblog.  have fun.

Drinking a Guinness tall boy after doing some night wrenching on the e46 ZHP, then having a Dale's before I go to bed and get back at it in the morning.  Now that Saturdays are clear I can get back to attending to my Broken BMW Sanctuary.

It is unusually hot and humid here in ATX, near 80 all day.

Just returned from a Mexican-themed Christmas party in which we discovered the magic that happens combining some Flor de Cana rum with homemade Horchata. The glow is magnificent.

This has been one of the worst weeks I can remember in a while. Oldest kid got COVID, holed up in her room the past 5 days. The rest of us have been testing and testing and so far, so good. Been without hot water for three days due to a broken water heater and it's cold here. Diagnosed during COVID testing with a treatable medical condition so I called my doctor who I hadn't seen in a few years and found out he just died of a heart attack. And my youngest kid is failing Geometry. (None of this is like the poor people in Kentucky)

But there is light at the tunnel. Got the hot water heater working tonight, temporarily. Only a few more days of quarantine for the oldest, and I'm hoping the youngest pulls a better grade than an F. And Michigan had a great recruiting week.

TGIF, big time.

Recently got home from my weekly bartending shift. (Can’t give it up even though I could if I wanted to. So much fun.)

Vodka soda and a 24oz Modelo while I work on a painting.

Enjoying some Guaro while in the mountains of San José, Costa Rica. Heading back to the Space Coast at the end of the month, may drive down couple of hours South to Miami, for Orange Bowl. Then spend New Years back on the beach.
