Doug and Jon mentioned it…

Doug and Jon mentioned it when they got back from commercial break on the Michigan Radio broadcast. They didn't mention it was Brian Ferentz, but the replay on tv made that obvious.

Tell ya what. If somebody…

Tell ya what. If somebody offers me a ticket, I'll be the loudest MFer you've ever heard.

Counterpoint is that the win…

Counterpoint is that the win underscores the realistic probability of a national championship run, jeopardized by the absence of their head coach.

"I want Michigan punished so…

"I want Michigan punished so bad and they're not doing it when I want them to!"

The school just met with the NCAA. Pretty sure they've got a better idea how serious the NCAA views the infractions than outside folks who have been feverishly rage-fetishizing this entire story for the last week two weeks.

I don't know why I didn't…

I don't know why I didn't realize until last night that McElwain was CMU's head coach.

He spent that year with us; seems like he'd probably have at least recognized Stalions. Or maybe complete unnoticeability is his super power?

"Mrs. Krabappel and…

"Mrs. Krabappel and Principal Skinner were in the closet making babies and I saw one of the babies and the baby looked at me!"

Did nobody else read that…

Did nobody else read that headline last night and think, "Well of course they're not going to announce a contract extension right now"?

And, if our song is anything…

And, if our song is anything to go by, also the leaders!

Up until their recent…

Up until their recent stretch of absolute dominance, I thought Georgia and Michigan were remarkably similar programs in the modern era (whatever that means). Michigan is also ascendant at the same time, but UGA has the clear lead right now.

I guess I should have looked…

I guess I should have looked at the date you posted this before doing it. I kept wondering what words would be UM related and... well, today's answer isn't remotely. Consequently, took me way longer than it should have, haha.

Using someone else's…

Using someone else's credentials to access their accounts without their permission is considered "fraudulent access," since the purpose of the system is to authenticate their identity.

Adam Coon is a boss. Good…

Adam Coon is a boss. Good luck, dude!

For sure. The athletic…

For sure. The athletic department is objectively in a very good place. From director's cup to revenue and fan experience, I think he's managed Michigan athletics really well. It seems like there may be some soft skills he doesn't command and might not exactly be beloved by the athletic staff themselves.

On  the balance sheet, Michigan athletics can perfectly survive from having to replace a great coach, but it does speak to the culture a bit. And President Ono also understands the halo effect that the big money sports can have on the rest of the enterprise.

I'm as confused by Warde's inertia regarding Pearson as I am with how he let Bakich, Beilein, and almost Harbaugh all go. I think maybe I just answered my own question. I think maybe Warde just thinks coaches are a number.

He was mashing "0" and…

He was mashing "0" and repeatedly shouting, "Agent!" and by God he reached him.

I think that's an honest…

I think that's an honest possibility, but if so, I still don't understand why Ono would make it public that Manuel wasn't even the first to hear the news.

I mean, either Warde has…

I mean, either Warde has been incapacitated or more likely this is about as loud a public blast that you can be put on.

Yet there is this narrative,…

Yet there is this narrative, that Warde Manuel lost Beilein. As if he could've prevented the roster turnover and stopped guys from going pro, made coaches around the country stop cheating, halted NIL and the portal, and prevented NBA teams from coming after Beilein.

I don't think it's entirely on Warde, but perhaps passively. If those were concerns that your current coach has, they'll be concerns for any successor as well. It's not like those issues were idiosyncratic to Beilein. I'd hope the AD is helping our coaches navigate a changing athletics environment and giving them resources to do it the right way.

I'm not at all opposed to it…

I'm not at all opposed to it on principle. But whenever I'm considering donating money I think about the charities I probably ought to spend it on...

Put up 45, had one touchdown…

Put up 45, had one touchdown overturned, and pissed one other away at the 1-yd with a silly trick play (that he did fall on the sword over).

I've had a hard time…

I've had a hard time justifying staying up that late to watch Monday night football for a long time already. I don't have that much more stake in the outcome now.

So, probably not?

You raise a good point. If…

You raise a good point. If you've only got an average of 2.5 years or so in the NFL, and you're already making real money in college via NIL deals, this is effectively adding an income-generating year to your expected career as an athlete.

Frankly, with all this noise…

Frankly, with all this noise about the NCAA sanctions for him telling them to F off, this is probably as much him polishing off his resume and asking around to CYA himself just like any of us would if our own managers didn't look like they were gonna have our backs over something stupid even though we're their golden goose.

With the NCAA now announcing that they're going to permit analysts to interact with players, I absolutely can see why he'd say, "If you  ask me to take a suspension over this crap after all I've done for you, I'll walk."

I have a feeling this is…

I have a feeling this is almost precisely what Jim said to warrant their charge of "not cooperating."

Something to the effect of, "A&M just offered those kids $1M and you're giving me grief over a burger. Fuck off."

I also want to add: how can anybody with a straight face criticize Harbaugh for 2020 when he wasn't even legally allowed to  coach guys practice over Zoom?

There is no content after…

There is no content after the jump. There wasn't really any content before it.

Fair point.

So, I'm pretty happy at my…

So, I'm pretty happy at my job. I have no independent desire to leave it. I have pretty good pay, great benefits and flexibility, and believe in what I do.

But there is an amount of money I would leave this job for, and it is on a curve plotted with the x axis = amount of extra bullshit in my life. That curve increases exponentially with each increase in x.

I read this as Jim saying, "I think it's unlikely but not impossible that someone offers me the right pay at the right level of BS to leave Michigan."

Not just after last year, he…

Not just after last year, he already had to put it to bed again mid-season this year (well, 2022). And quite definitively.

I don't know, if I were him, I think I'd be pretty tired of having to respond to the same question over and over again.

This is my gut feeling…

This is my gut feeling. Dykes has inherited a very mature, very talented roster, which has greatly outperformed expectations. Meant as no disrespect to him at all, I sense some shades of Brady Hoke's 2011 team.

It remains to be seen how he does down the stretch, but I want to give the edge to our coaching staff in this game, and if the defense can keep the TCU receivers in front of them and limit the X-factor that Duggan brings, I think 38-27 is a reasonable prediction.

(So say I on the internet hereby to be completely embarrassed tomorrow night by virtue of hindsight.)

I mean, in all the strength…

I mean, in all the strength of schedule/strength of record rankings I've seen, TCU and Michigan are perfectly adjacent to one another, with nearly the same score.

When it comes to predicting the outcome tomorrow night, opponent schedule is a pretty useless bromide. How do the teams' respective strengths and weaknesses align, and which team has an advantage at in-game coaching?

I expect they'll throw some high speed curveballs at us right away and get up early. I hope to see us do what we do and play keep away while wearing their defense down over the first half. I think Vegas expects a 34-27-ish game which doesn't seem unreasonable, but I wouldn't be surprised if most of TCU's points are scored in that first half and the staff make the adjustments needed to clamp down on their game plan coming out of halftime and the offense eventually breaks it open against a tired TCU line and the backers start getting out of position.

Michigan covers.

I'll have you know that I…

I'll have you know that I dislike all of my kids equally.

I, also, just spent the last…

I, also, just spent the last 10 minutes scouring the web to see if there was something I had missed about him not suiting up/reaggravating his earlier injury.

That's The Joke | Know Your Meme

It's funny, when I was in…

It's funny, when I was in the bathrooms at the Rutgers game a drunk fan demanded to know if I was actually from Michigan. I guess so many of the Michigan fans in NJ are actually alumni originally from NJ.

I assured him I was a native Michigander, and a grad, and he muttered something before walking off without washing his hands.

the "market" will correct…

the "market" will correct itself when people realize "oh shit I probably shouldn't have given that guy that's not going to crack the depth chart 7 figures"

Or when these boosters insist that the guy they spent all that money on get played over the better judgment of the coaching staff.

My quick read of the tea leaves is that teams comprised of players paid highly to be there will not take as well to development and tough coaching, and will ultimately underperform their star level. These players will recognize after a few seasons that they've fallen behind their peers in terms of draft potential and will transfer to programs that can actually do that.

I'd also expect that as players with real NFL prospects begin to recognize this, they'll either be more willing to forego immediate recruiting incentives to go somewhere that will better build and prepare them for the NFL, or they'll go get their guaranteed bag as a recruit and then shop for a place that can position them for a career.

I was standing in front of…

I was standing in front of him in the hallway before the procession. He just seemed like a big, nervous kid who was doing something big, and so a brief "congratulations!" like I shared with any other grad sufficed more than any other encouragement. He had every right to enjoy his college graduation day like every other student in their cap and gown.

It is, after all, a school first.

All hail the transfer portal.

All hail the transfer portal.

ReliaQuest for sure. As a de facto CFB memorial and public sendoff to Mike Leach, that game is going to be lit.

...Did he really fucking say…

...Did he really fucking say that?

They say that taupe is very…

They say that taupe is very soothing.

Here I was thinking $5M…

Here I was thinking $5M actually sounded a little low for a sound system in a 110,000-seat stadium! But I also work for the federal government.

I think the point has…

I think the point has already been made, but the intent of collegiate athletics is not, and should not be, to generate revenue.

Ya know, I don't hate them…

Ya know, I don't hate them but I agree they'd look a lot nicer if they were covered with a brick facade.

Don't be so hard on yourself…

Don't be so hard on yourself. At least you can spell. Quality over quantity.

I had to upvote this one…

I had to upvote this one because it at least took the time to make sure it spelled the school and city's name correctly.

Eh. I don't think Michigan…

Eh. I don't think Michigan is disliked, but we had a coordinator win the award last year and TCU is the playoff darling this season.

Damn, even after that OT…

Damn, even after that OT playcalling.

I know All was close to the…

I know All was close to the Harbaughs, and while Jim was encouraging him to listen to the medical staff and let himself heal before resorting to a surgery that might disqualify him, if Erick and his dad were set on getting the procedure I could see Jim telling him to do what he thinks is best for himself and he supports him.

Perhaps they thought that meant Coach would/could try to override UMHS and now they feel misled.

Yeah. He's reinjured himself…

Yeah. He's reinjured himself twice now trying to come back to play. I'm not even sure there is even much of a decision to be made here.

I doubt they go with an …

I doubt they go with an "either/or" game plan. I'm sure they are going to try and split the difference by finding a way to disguise guys in coverage on RPOs or key LBs off TEs.

Whether they have the personnel that can actually pull it off well, or we exploit it using lots of play-action, might be the rock-paper-scissors meta-game. But I don't think they can afford to sell out on one or the other.

Yes.

Yes.

And you can't see past her…

And you can't see past her looks to celebrate her for the content of her character! She would want us to know her for more than a pretty set of eyes, and as someone who was committed to the cause of exposing the Earth as a flat disc.

And to quote, well, Kirstie Alley's own condolence tweet to Stephen Hawking after his death: Kirstie, "you had a good go at it... thanks for your input."
