OT: Bowl games - which B1G game(s) are you planning to watch?

Submitted by Amazinblu on December 14th, 2022 at 11:03 AM

The college bowl season kicks off later this week - on Friday at 11:30 am EDT - with a matchup between Miami of Ohio and UAB in the Home Town Lenders Bahama Bowl.

Nine (9) B1G teams are going bowling this season.  Besides Michigan vs TCU on December 31st, which are the games you're looking forward to, or will plan to watch?   Here's the entire bowl schedule for the conference.

Wisconsin vs Oklahoma State - December 27th

Minnesota vs Syracuse - December 29th

Maryland vs NC State - December 30th

Iowa vs Kentucky - December 31st - preceding the Fiesta Bowl

Michigan vs TCU - December 31st

Ohio State vs Georgia - December 31st

Illinois vs MSU (Mississippi State) - January 2nd

Purdue vs LSU - January 2nd

Penn State vs Utah - January 2nd

And - two other games of interest for me are:

Tennessee vs Clemson - December 30th

Alabama vs Kansas State - December 31st

Obviously Michigan Vs TCU and probably Ohio vs Georgia

Really I am not interested in any of the other Big 10 games. Non championship bowl games are losing their luster fast.

I don't know.  I'm looking at F+ rankings, which combine FEI and SP+.  I'm amazed at how bad the best PAC 12 teams are on defense.  Utah's opponents may be a big part of the reason that Utah's offense looks pretty good.

Oregon (57th in defense F+), Oregon St. (19th) USC (83rd), Washington St. (26th), UCLA (82nd), Florida (an early season Utah loss, 67th).  Against Oregon St. and Washington St. (the two best defenses Utah faced), Utah put up 361 yards and 344 yards, respectively.  They seem to have won those games by winning the turnover battle.  Oregon St. outgained Utah by about 60 yards.

Penn St. is 7th in F+ defense.

I wouldn't expect either offense to do too much in this game.  I don't think either team's offense will put fear into their opponent.

Other than the Michigan game the two games I'm most interested in watching are:

1. OSU/Georgia - Sorry Buckeyes, not going to root for the B1G in this one.  Hope your sorry asses get rolled.

2. MSU/? - One thing I love about bowl season is rooting hard for Sparty to lose and lose big on the national stage.  Nothing funnier than the rest of the world getting to witness a "Sparty no" moment.

Who are they playing anyways?  I dont see their game listed.

UGH

I actually did a WTF double take and went back looking for Sparty.

Although not listed here I hate watch ND with a passion.  If it is close or they are losing I watch with all the joy of Emperor Palpatine.

As for the rest of the B1G I try and soak in everything my schedule allows thinking of Coach Mike Leach and others who leave so suddenly not knowing when your last season of college football might be.

Will probably have them all on as background at some time or another but will only actively watch Minnesota.

And of course UGA-Ohio State.  Can't lose with that one, either there will be Buckeye tears or the SEC stans will take one on the chin.  Plus it's NYE, what else could possibly be happening?

Obviously I’m watching UM play and would love to see how much UGA destroys OSU by. I’m not super interested in anything else in December, but all three Jan 2nd bowls are very interesting in their own way.

Rose Bowl matchup is just really strong and should be a great game. Citrus bowl looks to be interesting with Purdue’s coaching change. Would love to see purple face lose again. Illinois’ game will be very sad and strange now with the passing of Coach Leach. Almost feel bad for the Illini here as they’ve had a great season by Illinois standards and all of that is going to be overshadowed by their opponent. Rightfully so, but they deserve a lot of recognition for the turnaround they’ve had this year. Will be an emotional game.

I am a bowl game sicko.  Give me that Bahama bowl.  Give me that famous Idaho potato bowl.  Give me the bowl game in freaking Boston in when it's wicked cold outside.

I don't care, it's 90% awful football, but I love it all and I can't get enough.

I was really interested in the Illinois vs. MissSt game, but now just a heavy heart.

I have a weird interest in the Syracuse - Minnesota game because I was a big Dino Babers fan when he first got the job, and I think Minnesota is a great "measuring stick" team in general.

I think Penn St v. Utah will be the best game overall from a competitiveness standpoint. Purdue v LSU will be a bloodbath.

Iowa and Kentucky will be one of the most boring games on the slate. Game might be over in 90 minutes with all the running and punting.

Its funny but ive been saying all year that the ACC ranked teams (minus Clemson) have been no better than the best of the big ten west. I love that they get to prove it on the field.

All of em. Doing my usual bowl mania I'm looking for a site that has data on players preparing for the pros and will not suit up, injury reports as well. Any help here would be appreciated. With all the garbage bowls this year is worse than last w what 500+ portals.
