Unpopular opinion: I never get this multi-sport thing that influences what colleges that great football recruits choose. Most of these guys never end up playing a second sport, and if they do, it’s not for long. As soon as they put on weight and muscle for football, they realize they can’t meaningfully compete in the other sport. Nor do they have the time I’d guess. Football is where they are going to make their money, but they still go ahead and pick a college for the wrong reason. It’s like picking Alabama because they are also interested in engineering. 🙄

And no doubt the head football coach leads them to believe they’re really going to support them playing in another sport besides football, when they know it’s not really going to happen. But they don’t care, they just want their commitment to the football team.

The big difference is that this kid is the real deal as a track and field prospect. He's not an elite football prospect who is "pretty good" at track. He is a truly elite track prospect.

His times as a HS runner are very close to the school records at Michigan and would have placed him close to the top ten in the NCAA Championships last year. As a freshman, this kid could very easily break both the 100m and 200m record at Michigan. To be honest, he could easily break both of them this spring as a HS senior.

While on one hand it sounds neat to be able to write your name in the record books, on the other hand he might want to go to a program that is used to training sprinters at his level.

"That's her home," Harbor said. "She's always pro Michigan. Michigan this, Michigan that. But if another college could change her mind on Michigan, flip her, then they are probably going to get me. That's probably the biggest recruiting piece to me saga. Probably here.

That quote makes you think that it's a Michigan vs Oregon battle? Seems pretty clear Michigan is out. His heart isn't there.

He says if Mom is okay with another school, he'll go to that school.  That tells me that he - personally - doesn't want Michigan.  Having been the son of a mother tells me that it's probably not going to be too hard to convince mom it's okay to go somewhere else - because she loves and trusts her son.

My opinion - even if he comes here, his heart won't be 100% all in.  He'll be a constant portal watch...

There are two schools that worry me with Davis and they are both kind of desperate right now, Ohio St and Clemson. Clemson bad Klubnik but he will be a junior Davis first season and possible to go pro after that. Ohio St lost Raiola and will be searching for a replacement and who better to screw over than Michigan. I guess I should have spelled it de$perate when referring to those teams. I don’t like how he keeps pushing his decision back, he should be committing and recruiting already.

hate the dollar sign digs. NIL is real and legitimate.

If a kid has several good options, why shouldn't money be a significant factor in his final decision? Money is important.

And there's a difference between getting paid and becoming an Aggie Mercenary. Just like there's a difference between being ethical NIL and sitting on your hands out of principal.

I’d imagine because the best high school QBs want to go to schools that throw the ball more often. It sounds like if Ryan Day had wanted McCarthy he’d probably be there instead of Michigan. I’ve heard McCarthy mention that after he’d been recruited by Meyer, Day took over and decided to go “in another direction” at QB.

Signing a highly rated QB out of HS is not as important as it was before the portal.  It seems that ever year there is a highly rated QB that signed with USC in the portal, e.g., Jaxson Dart, Kedon Slovis, JT Daniels - and those are the ones that started in their freshmen years.  Jalen Hurts and Spencer Rattler are two more that entered the portal after losing QB competitions. Don't  be surprised if the loser of the QB competition at Texas, Quinn Ewers or Arch Manning is in the portal in a year from now.

Tyson Gay went 10.46 in HS, Marvin Bracy ran 10.19, Justin Gatlin 10.36, Trayvon Bromell routinely went 10.3-10.4 range, Ronnie Baker was still running 10.3-10.5 his freshman year of college, and Fred Kerley's best time was a full second+ slower than Harbor's 200 in high school (he didn't really run the 100 in high school, was more long sprints).

Harbor already ran a 10.22 with a season left in high school. Sure, he could never cut the necessary .2 seconds needed to run sub 10, which is what it usually takes to make the US team... But these guys were all in his range in high school. His high school coach also, for what it's worth I believe said she'd be shocked if he doesn't run low 10/break 10.

His mom will eventually come around to what she knows is in his heart. And his heart is not in Michigan just by him saying that. It’s clear he’s torn bc he doesn’t wanna let his mom down. Harbor and Davis are not coming to Michigan. That’s been clear by every day that passes by, especially with “JD comin”..
