OT: CFP Final.. Pregame thread.. do you care?

Submitted by Amazinblu on January 9th, 2023 at 9:41 AM

The college season comes to a close this evening when TCU and Georgia meet in the CFP final.

I’ll have the game on in the background, but don’t think I’ll be watching it closely.

It would be fine with me if TCU found a way to win…

Will you watch the game?   Do you care who wins?  Any perspectives to share?

Yes, I will watch the game. DVR it even.

I don't really care who wins. I think Georgia is the best team, so they should probably win if everything is fair. But it would be a small consolation to say, "Look, the only team Michigan lost to was the national champion," so it wouldn't be terrible for my pride to see TCU win.

Personally, as an Air Raid fan and a big fan of what Mike Leach did for the football, I think it would be pretty cool for an Air Raid team to win the national championship in the season that Leach passed away.

I’m rooting for Georgia. Only losing to the eventual national champion might be a small consolation, but imo it would be substantially outweighed by the pain of knowing we blew a legitimate shot at the natty. Hoping Georgia rolls to spare me a lifetime of what-ifs

  1. Yeah, this is the correct answer.  I don't know if I necessarily agree with the notion that it was a "down year" for college football, but this year it seems that there's no clear cut team that's above the rest (LSU a few years ago, Clemson when T. Lawrence was throwing lazers or at times when Bama is just unbeatable.)  As such, the TCU loss is an even harder pill to swallow because M really had a shot at it this year.

Hard to get excited about the title game when I feel like Michigan's best could've beat either of these teams. 2023 Michigan probably will be better than 2022 Michigan, but who knows what the field looks like next year. This might've been Michigan's best shot at a national title for who knows how long

I'll watch because I'm a CFB junkie, but I don't really "care." There's no real compelling storyline for me - I get TCU was 200:1, but I still believe we beat them 9 times out of 10 if we don't play a stupid game.

I may try to watch a little, but the whole time I will be thinking Michigan should be playing in this game.

On second thought I don’t know if I can bring myself to watch. I have been changing the channel anytime I see a commercial for this game. I still am not over that game and not sure I ever will be. I really thought this team had what it takes to win it all.

Nothing against TCU or its fans, but I hope Georgia wins handily. Then I can tell myself that Michigan's chances of beating Georgia weren't great and that last weekend's pooch screw didn't mean too much in the big picture.

I'd also have to classify their close win over OSU as a fluke.

Hell no to this in (almost) every single way. Hoping to see TCU whoop Georgia's ass. Wouldn't enjoy Georgia giving the SEC another reason to gloat especially because they definitely don't deserve it this year.

Georgia beating OSU by only 1 point (?!!!!) pissed me off, and winning only because of a OSU muffed field goal is absolutely disgusting.

Fuck OSU and fuck Georgia. Michigan had their chance and they lost (albeit after putting in a great showing). TSU needs to show the whole world that a team that beat OSU by only 1 point absolutely doesn't deserve a national championship.

(I do however have to agree with you about Georgia beating OSU as a fluke)

Edit: Disappointed to see so little desire to watch, and the lack of feeling about the outcome. But I understand those two feelings completely.

I'll watch, but don't really care who wins.  I can't see UGA playing a yackety-sax game like Michigan did, nor can I see them coming in with a game plan that completely discounts TCU as a team.  So I think Georgia will win it in somewhat easy fashion.  Which is how Michigan should have won...

The truly sad thing is that I firmly believe Michigan would beat UGA this year if each teams plays a clean, normal game.

No. My heart is not in it. I will glance at it now and then like you. For me, football season ended last Saturday. Up at 5AM tomorrow, early to bed, so it will probably be only halftime anyway.

I don’t really care and probably won’t watch most of it. I think I would only tune in to a one-score game in the fourth quarter. And maybe not even then.

Care? No, not really. I head to bed around 9:30 because I'm getting old, so I'll probably have it on in the background until then. Can't see TCU winning by a lot if they do manage to win. Either a close game where TCU might eek out a win, or Georgia just destroys them.

As the last meaningful football game to me for the next 8 months (don’t follow nfl), I’ll watch some. If it’s not a close game I’ll probably watch on and off. All glory to the hypnotoad.

I'll watch and want TCU to win because fuck the SEC.

Walking out of the grocery store wearing a Michigan shirt the other day:

Older guy: "Go Blue"

Me: [surprised and happy] "Go Blue"

Older guy: "Too bad you blew it"

Me: [dropping head] "Yep, that sucked"

I like football...so chances are I'll tune in.

Bittersweet watching the finals this year compared to last year, as Michigan beat itself as much as TCU won. Last Georgia was so much better it was never a question of 'What if"

I guess I'd cheer for TCU by a hair? It'd be a great story and I always cheer for the underdog if I don't have any rooting interest

If Georgia calls a jet sweep on 4th and 2 from the goal line that fails, has a touchdown called back, fumbles on the goal line and throws two pick sixes it might be a close game.  Sorry, that's just my perspective.
