Pete Thamel on Harbaugh during Pat McAfee Show interview: "If there is a contract given to Jim Harbaugh in the upcoming weeks it would be one of the ultimate middle fingers to the NCAA"

A few things of note from this interview:

  1. Pete Thamel seems visibly irked by the contract extension happening
  2. He compares this scandal to Bill Self's scandal, which is absurd
  3. He seems upset that the NCAA's punishment will be slow and that the B1G is not acting
  4. He gives no indication that, despite the contract progressing, there might just not be anything to this scandal
  5. He once again furthers the asinine notion that Michigan not commenting means something despite that Michigan cannot comment on an open investigation

he's invested in a certain narrative and gets benefit when people click on a link or watch an ad.  So feeding an outrage machine helps him either way - and maybe the past 2 weeks have made this story like catnip for him.  Either way - not sure why I or anyone else would care about the opinion of this specific talking head.....

I wonder how ol' Pete felt about Jim Tressel lying to Jim Delany so that several Buckeye players could participate in the Sugar Bowl?

With Delany, Ohio State coach Jim Tressel and athletic director Gene Smith asking for leniency from the NCAA, the five players were permitted to play in the bowl game and wait until this fall to begin serving a five-game suspension for accepting money and tattoos from the owner of a Columbus tattoo parlor.

It wasn't until more than a week after the Buckeyes' 31-26 victory over Arkansas that Ohio State officials discovered Tressel had known about the players' violations for more than nine months.

Where does that one rank Pete?

Thamel wants clicks on his articles, and to push the idea of chaos.  A contract extension offer would negate his efforts.

I'm all for a middle finger to the NCAA.......and to Thamel too

Very critical of Harbaugh not giving satisfactory answers for his liking, for not taking responsibility, and calls the scandal "sleazy, disgusting" and "stinks to high heavens."

As a reminder, this was his initial take:

So he hasn't contradicted himself anywhere, but his tone went from defending to doing the "piling on" he accused the NCAA of.

He's irked because if Michigan extends him it means they don't think the allegations are serious and if they aren't serious then his "reporting" on it is just a fart in the wind.

On the contrary, I think Ol' Pete is just trying to control the narrative.

If his original story suggesting "HaRgHbAuGh is ChEaTiNg!" starts to lose credibility, he can flip the outrage to "HaRbAuGh DoEsN't EvEn CaRe AbOuT the RuLeS!", thus continuing the clickbait campaign at Michigan's expense.

RIP journalistic integrity.

Poor Petey. His great work might not get the attention it deserves.

Hey, Pete. Tell us who's been feeding you all the scoops and we'll send you a box of cookies.

No, it would be a middle finger to Pete Thamel and all the other trash who call themselves journalists who live for nothing but clicks. I'm not sure the NCAA even gives a shit.
