The problem with colon…

The problem with colon cancer is you don't notice you have it. Once it is diagnosed, you are already at Stage 4 and it is too late. This is what happened to my father in-law 7 years ago, who otherwise was a healthy guy.  Get tested.

I am terrified, but excited.

I am not a web developer, (I do digital marketing), but I often work with them.

I ran this page (/meta-webpage-crash-safari) though webpagetest.org to see what it is going on.

First off, the performance of the page is... ahem... abysmal. It takes 33 seconds to get to Document complete. And 36.7 seconds total. Total download size is 2.2 Megs.

There are 800 Dom objects that need to be downloaded. Given this is a message board, but that is still lot of objects.

Looking at the Waterfall breakdown, I see a lot of ads and tracking pixels. Using Ghostery, I see 95 tracking pixels total.

I also see a lot of 30x redirects, many due to ads. They slow you down. Some redirects are unavoidable, but others could be optimized.

I did not see too many fat images. But I did noticed the Instagram image is 350K. I also noticed that background image of the UM Stadium takes a long time to load in the background.

In summary, the likely reason you are having problems on Safari on iPad is this site is pig, and your browser can't handle the big numbers above.

Recommendations to MGoBlog

1. Rethink your ads strategy. Reduce the number of Ad pixels. Just use the ad networks you  really need.

2. Optimize that Instagram image. It should be about 30K. Also, remove the pointless background image of the UM stadium.

3. Simplify your page design.

BTW, this page is pretty simple. The UFR pages are the worst performance-wise. (Of course I love the content).

Actually, I am an iPad user as well, and I have pretty much given up viewing it on the iPad. And I am seeing problems with Safari on my MacBook Pro as well.

So TCU is the "Michigan of 2021". Went from unranked to CFP.

(And then lose to overmatched opponent in the 1st round ;-)

Another thing that impressed…

Another thing that impressed me on this play is Loveland beat a safety. He's got both moves and speed for a big guy.

Couple of things I noticed…

Couple of things I noticed on rewatch.

  1. After Blake Corum's 2nd run, he trots over to the sideline and mentions something to Mike Hart, likely about the condition of his knee. Mike sort of throws his hands up and walks away. Pretty sure he said something like "oh were fucked now".
  2. After OSU drives right down the field and scores, we are in 3rd and long, on the no of a 3 and out. Crowd was in a frenzy. Enter CJ with a critical catch to move the chains. If we go 3 and out there, that's really bad news.
  3. The 1st TD by CJ was on another 3rd down. Great play by JJ to get him the ball, and great play by CJ to juke those 2 guys to get in the end zone. This kept us in the game when things looked pretty dim.
  4. Agree with the other posters, Sainristil's breakup not only took 4 points off the board, it kept it a 2 score game. This really took the wind out of their sales after that long drive.
  5. On CJ Stroud's interception, it looks like his knee was down before he threw the ball. Lucky for us it was not reviewed.
  6. I am not sure why CJ Stroud is moping on that 4th and 6. The game is within 1 score in the 3rd. Seems to me the right thing to do was punt.
  7. But the 4th and 3, with 11 minutes to go down by 11 pts, not sure what Day was thinking there.
  8. Team did a good job of keeping their cool and not getting flagged. I saw multiple times where emotions could take over. I think it was Rod Moore who got head butted and asked for a flag. Ronny Bell was grabbed and manhandled well after the play, he is just chill holding his hands up. One guy was literally throwing punches around the numbers of one of our players as a play was ending. Yet we kept our cool and did not retaliate. Clearly we were well coached to keep our emotions in check, and it paid off.
  9. Just a reminder, no fumbles, no interceptions. I can't recall any sacks either. Well done boys.

My 2 cents.

The whole passing game is out of synch right now

  • Receivers dropping balls
  • QB throwing to the wrong location
  • 2 receivers in the same spot
  • QB missing the mark

I just wish they had more live fire reps in the early B1G season to work it all out. Let's hope they can figure it out before Saturday, because I am expecting Jim Knowles to stack the box and force us to pass.

How about Crimea river?

Double post.

How about Crimea river?

How about Crimea river?

I like this one.

I like this one.

Ultimately, UGA has way better skill talent than Michigan does and I think this is the point where we finally start to see Todd Monken let it all hang out.

So with Hutchinson, Ojabo, and Dax on defense, and the best running back combo in football on O, he still still sees UGA having way better skill talent. OK man whatever floats your boat.

Maybe that’s why he didn’t…

Maybe that’s why he didn’t win.

This should be the new Jump…

This should be the new Jump Man logo.

Before the game started when…

Before the game started when they were doing on the field reports, you could see the players warming up in the background. I could distinctly see Donovan Edwards, practicing throws. I thought to myself, "shouldn't he be practicing jump cuts or something? Why is he practicing showing before the game?".

Well, now we know.

I'm agreeing with this take…

I'm agreeing with this take. They don't want a GA/AL semi-final rematch. And they like the idea of Michigan having to go through 2 SEC teams to get to the prize. And by pairing Bama with Cincy, that pretty much assures 1 SEC will make it to the final.

Look for Bama, M, GA, Cincy in that order when the pairing come out. Prepare to be disappointed.

I am no expert here, but…

I am no expert here, but what is obvious is the QB never keeps. So defensive ends and cornerbacks come crashing down each play taking away the run.

Come on guys, we all know…

Come on guys, we all know Gattis is calling the plays.

But what is not said is that he can only choose plays from Harbaugh's playbook. And the pages for 1st and 2nd down are a 3-answer multiple choice test.

I think this reply shows it…

I think this replay shows it is not a catch. Notice in the key frame that the foot is in bounds and the ball is in his left hand. The right hand is not touching the call. Then as he lands on the ground, the ball slithers out of his left hand and ends up in his right hand. Failure to maintain control of the football equals no catch.

Unfortunately the opposite…

Unfortunately the opposite is also true. OSU is built for winning THE GAME more than any in Ryan Day's tenure.

If you are reasonably savvy…

If you are reasonably savvy on YouTube, often people post full game replays there. Just try to start watching it before it is taken down. Just search for "Michigan vs <competitor> full game".

UFR’s crash my Safari on iPad all the time. I can’t read them any more on that device. Previously I could open them, but they were excruciatingly slow.

I think it’s due to the massive size of the page. I ran a performance test using WebPageTest.org. The results were not good.

Page Load Time: 45 seconds

Total Page Size: 11 megabytes

Seth, you might want to consider ways to reduce the size and complexity of these pages. Or may try breaking them up into 2 or 3 posts to reduce the size. Another idea is to load the comments in a separate thread.

Things definitely got worse when you went to using GiffyCats instead of YT videos. But I suspect that is the straw that broke the camel’s back.

Given the current state of…

Given the current state of both offenses, I doubt we will see 23 to 24 points combined.

The thing that baffles me is…

The thing that baffles me is, last year Cade executed zone reads and RPOs almost flawlessly against Rutgers, as a 2nd string QB no less. But this year he can't execute a zone read and we only trust him with 2 RPOs in the game. Why do our QBs devolve over time?

+1 for Stefan Humphries. He is my hero. AFAIK, only sports athlete Sports Illustrated featured where they included a picture of his grade transcript. Almost all A's in Engineering School. To do that, and play for Bo is quite impressive.
