The points are very close amongst the top 3, with Georgia at 1574, OSU at 1500, and UM at 1455.
November 6th, 2022 at 2:12 PM ^
No they are not.
straight 1st votes=1575
straight 2nd votes=1512
straight 3rd votes=1449

The vast majority of the voters put the top three in the order UGA, OSU, Michigan. I don't read that as necessarily suggesting the top three are close, but simply that there is near consensus that those are the top 3, and in that order.

So when CFP comes out we can expect to be… sixth.
November 6th, 2022 at 2:35 PM ^
No. M could be as high as 2 it that. But likely at 3.

Clarence is being facetious (I hope).

Come on dude. You’re better than that.
November 6th, 2022 at 9:49 PM ^
But the SEC bias CFP will have Tennessee at number 4.
November 6th, 2022 at 2:05 PM ^
The focus is on beating Nebraska.
November 6th, 2022 at 2:15 PM ^
Right, because god knows what would happen if fans, who have absolutely nothing to do with the games, were to [loud gasp] not take Nebraska seriously
November 6th, 2022 at 2:19 PM ^
I could be wrong, but am I sensing a teeny bit of sarcasm here???
November 6th, 2022 at 5:39 PM ^
so you are saying that I’ve been wearing the same pair of underwear on game days for 30 years for nothing?
November 6th, 2022 at 7:07 PM ^
The N stands for nawledge
November 6th, 2022 at 2:21 PM ^
Exactly. All of these rankings meet shit if you can't beat Nebraska.
November 6th, 2022 at 2:27 PM ^
Wait...you mean if Michigan loses their ranking changes? And to a lower ranking? What the fuck? How is that even fair!?!
November 6th, 2022 at 3:01 PM ^
It's really not since SEC can move up after hard fought losses.
November 6th, 2022 at 4:45 PM ^
Alabama lost to a team that beat Alabama, so that is a win
November 6th, 2022 at 8:42 PM ^
Alabama lost to a team that lost to a team that beat Alabama. That's a statement victory.
November 6th, 2022 at 7:24 PM ^
First half of Rutgers was my fault. I was thinking about the last game, the OSU game and rankings. I'm fully focused on Nebraska now.
November 6th, 2022 at 2:06 PM ^
Well yeah LSU's win over Alabama only makes Alabama stronger and that also makes Tennessee stronger which also makes LSU stronger. It makes complete sense
November 6th, 2022 at 2:08 PM ^
It just means more!
November 6th, 2022 at 2:46 PM ^
I mean how can you expect the Committee to put Michigan ahead of any of them without any quality losses?
November 6th, 2022 at 2:47 PM ^
Alabama lost to two teams that beat Alabama. High quality losses!
November 6th, 2022 at 3:59 PM ^
Underrated comment.
November 6th, 2022 at 2:13 PM ^
I think that's still pretty generous to Tennessee. I didn't watch that game very closely but it seems like it wasn't as close as the score indicated and Georgia handled them. Plus the Alabama game looks less impressive now of course and it seems like they stink on defense. And I was kind of surprised they were #1 to begin with (seemed like they were a little overrated but the UK win was pretty good).
The way the Pac-12 shakes out will be very interesting. If Oregon, UCLA or USC comes out of that conference with only one loss (Oregon to #1 UGA in the first game of the season, USC with a wild road loss to a good Utah team - on a gutsy 2 point conversion call, UCLA to Oregon), it would be extremely difficult to exclude them from the playoff. Plus, that also means that they would've beaten the others (with the exception of UCLA) as well as Utah, Oregon State and Washington who are also pretty good. The Pac-12 is a good conference this year. And if a one-loss Oregon, USC or UCLA gets denied a spot in the CFP for a second SEC team, that would be pretty shameful.
November 6th, 2022 at 2:17 PM ^
The pac-12 race is gonna be very fun to watch. Oregon hosts Utah and UCLA will play USC at the rose bowl. Those 2 games will decide who goes to the ship. This was how it was supposed to be when the Pac-12 expanded. Too bad this will only last for one more year. Sigh
November 6th, 2022 at 2:17 PM ^
Yeah, one of the undefeateds will lose and then USC has UCLA, Notre Dame, and possibly the Pac 12 championship...IF USC wins out, how will the committee keep that brand out
November 6th, 2022 at 2:18 PM ^
It indeed was not as close as the score indicated. Tennessee got a garbage time touchdown. Until that point, they had just two field goals. They were dominated.
November 6th, 2022 at 2:25 PM ^
I watched the game. I live in Tennessee and like the Vols. But Tennessee got stuffed into a sack, which was then thoroughly pummeled and thrown into a river. The final score is not at all indicative of how thoroughly Georgia dominated every aspect of the game.
I was hoping (low probability, but hoping) that it would be my beloved Wolverines vs. the Vols in the playoffs, with the mighty Wolverines being victorious of course. But Georgia was worryingly strong in that game.
November 6th, 2022 at 2:53 PM ^
“But Tennessee got stuffed into a sack, which was then thoroughly pummeled and thrown into a river.”
This a perfect summation of that game.
November 6th, 2022 at 6:58 PM ^
Reminds me of Roman Poena cullei: "The punishment consisted of being sewn up in a leather sack, with an assortment of live animals including a dog, snake, monkey, and a chicken or rooster, and then being thrown into water"
November 6th, 2022 at 7:28 PM ^
Wasn't that the plot of Winter's Bone?
I guess it does just mean more.
November 6th, 2022 at 2:57 PM ^
My company had a plant just outside Knoxville. We go to campus for dinner often. They really love their Vols. There are no close professional Teams so the competition for dollars and eyeballs is limited.
UT campus is fun and I always get a “Go Blue!” UT is one of my favorite college towns outside AA of course.
November 6th, 2022 at 5:17 PM ^
Nashville is 2 hours down I-40, with the Titans.
It's just college is much more important than the pros outside the metro. Anywhere outside the metro.
November 6th, 2022 at 2:48 PM ^
Agree on Tenn. But keep in mind this is the AP not the comittee
I think they would put in a 1 loss PAC team in over just about any other 1 loss team. 2 teams outta 3 have that chance.as of today. There are 3 SEC teams that all have a shot at a spot. UGA would have to lose their last 2 conf games in order for Tenn to make the SECCG. Not happening. But I could see Tenn getting spot #4 when it all shakes out. Unless they would face UGA again in round 1 in which case they would slot them up. If Ole Miss wins out - including a W over UGA in the CG then they would likely be 1 or 2 depending on what Mich & Ohio do. I got Miss going down this next Sat. UGA & Tenn should roll thru the rest of their sched.
Odds are longer for a 1 loss Michigan or Ohio but you never know.
TCU controls their destiny but 1 loss and they are out of the convo.
November 6th, 2022 at 3:05 PM ^
If there is only one spot left with TCU bring undefeated, then they are more than likely going to give that to SEC, especially if LSU wins out. Otherwise, the last spot will go to TN, unless USC wins out. I don't see them giving the last spot to Oregon because of the pummeling they took and they may not want a rematch. Same goes for TN. If TCU loses, then I say 2 SEC teams is a sure thing unless B1G team keeps it close it it's loss. I would prefer much more chaos in B12 and PAC12, unless UM wins out. Then I don't want chaos because I would rather OSU does not get in.
November 6th, 2022 at 8:16 PM ^
LSU owns tiebreaker over ole miss. If both wins out KSU plays in SECcG
November 6th, 2022 at 2:14 PM ^
AP got it right, now lets see what the morons at the playoff committee decide
November 6th, 2022 at 2:15 PM ^
Best case scenario is Michigan continues to impress in the 1-3 range until we play osu. Ideally Corum and Edwards run over them like a Mack truck, but if stroud and the receivers have a better day, then hopefully it's not by much and warrants inclusion into the playoff even with a loss.
Georgia, osu, and Michigan could win or lose to any of each other depending on what kind of day they have.

strange seeing bama at 10.
some interesting races to follow this year in big ten, pac 12
November 6th, 2022 at 3:11 PM ^
Alabama could VERY easily be a 4 loss team or undefeated.
November 6th, 2022 at 3:29 PM ^
The media would be crying for Bama to go to the playoffs even with 4 losses.
November 6th, 2022 at 9:59 PM ^
November 6th, 2022 at 2:20 PM ^
UT at no. 5 is annoying.
November 6th, 2022 at 5:43 PM ^
Agree. If we lose by 2 tds in Columbus in a game that isn’t even that close, think we would have the same stay power? Nope.
November 6th, 2022 at 8:20 PM ^
Why PSU not in top 10. Their losses are to #2 & #3. This stuff is set up for the SEC to get 2 teams in
November 6th, 2022 at 2:21 PM ^
Alabama shouldn't even be in the top 10 any longer. They should be somewhere around 15 or lower with 2 loses. LSU should also be around 10 with 2 loses with the win over AL.
November 6th, 2022 at 3:31 PM ^
If only A&M had beat them. They were at the 2 yard line and couldn’t score. Imagine seeing Bama ranked in the teens.
