Notre Dame won't allow Purdue to use its tunnel to let in their Big Drum.
September 17th, 2021 at 10:04 AM ^
I might sit back and enjoy this little fight. While I enjoy beating Notre Dame, I also enjoy seeing Purdue get beaten. This may turn out to be interesting.

What did Purdon't ever do to you?
September 17th, 2021 at 10:29 AM ^
Ask Wilton Speight.
Also, to hell with Notre Dame.
September 17th, 2021 at 10:33 AM ^
This? The play where no penalty was called? Dude fell on Speight. Unfortunate, but not deliberate in my opinion.
September 17th, 2021 at 10:36 AM ^
Think he's also referring to the pathetic conditions in the visitor's locker room, the fact that Purdue had no on-site medical facility, and that Speight had to be transported via van to get the medical attention he required.
September 17th, 2021 at 10:39 AM ^
Looked deliberate to me...
September 17th, 2021 at 11:16 AM ^
Yeah, the one with the late hit on a QB who is already down that broke his neck.
September 17th, 2021 at 11:25 AM ^
No worries! They seat-belted his broken neck into the front seat of a carpool van and drove him down the street to a hospital that actually had an X-ray machine.
Apparently, his neck wasn't actually broken until the docs at the hospital saw the X-ray...
Fuck off, Purdue...
September 17th, 2021 at 12:00 PM ^
If you think the defensive tackle “fell” then I can’t help you. He launched himself onto a defensive player who was already down by the time he made contact (though I will admit, just by milliseconds). That contact was squarely to the head and neck area of the QB. I can give you a thousand cheap ass, unnecessary plays that weren’t called (see tape of any MSU player named Panasiuk) so that has zero bearing.
September 17th, 2021 at 6:26 PM ^
Bruh he was going for the sack and then didn't let up despite two of his teammates already bringing Speight to the ground...how was it not deliberate???? You sound like a guy who punches somebody and then says "whoops, my hand slipped".
September 17th, 2021 at 10:55 AM ^
For me it's that stupid train noise thing they do. I also hate Purdue. I worked as an athletic trainer for bowling green and can't tell you the joy I felt when we traveled there and kicked their ass as a MAC team in ~"03 I think it was. I've literally hated purdue for 20+ years...it's weird.
September 17th, 2021 at 12:39 PM ^
Still, not as much fun as watching Iran and Iraq at war a couple decades back.
September 17th, 2021 at 1:07 PM ^
No self-respecting Michigan fan can take Notre Dame's side in this squabble. Or almost any squabble.
September 17th, 2021 at 1:20 PM ^
That was a clown show what happened to Speight in 2017 but the Purdue/Notre Dame matchup isn't up for debate. Fuck Notre Dame. Obviously.
September 17th, 2021 at 3:15 PM ^
Purdue fans were surprisingly huge assholes when we went to the game in 17.
September 17th, 2021 at 10:09 AM ^
Good old college football pettiness.
Personally, I like the occasions where things get unnecessarily petty. It adds flavor to things.
September 17th, 2021 at 10:42 AM ^
Speaking of flavor, I always surmised that the big bass drum served double duty as a porta-bar. It has capacity to hold more than a few Boilermakers. Cheers!
September 17th, 2021 at 12:16 PM ^
I remain firm in my belief that if I ever won the lottery, I would create a bigger drum and just pay people to play it near theirs. Then the “worlds largest drum” tag on it would look really dumb.
I mean dumber.
September 17th, 2021 at 10:51 AM ^
Is ANY school more petty than Notre Dame?
September 17th, 2021 at 3:19 PM ^
Sparty can rival their pettiness at times
September 17th, 2021 at 4:01 PM ^
Not at times. They are cheap. Like the stupid walk pregame and the fight. Unnecessary.

Maybe they could use drones to carry it over the rim and into the stadium?
September 17th, 2021 at 10:37 AM ^
Yeah until Touchdown Jesus knocks it out of the sky with a lightning bolt.
Besides, nobody falls for the "carry your 7-foot drum over the stadium wall with drones" trick anymore.
September 17th, 2021 at 10:44 AM ^
I had this image as a thought bubble, made an unrelated comment below, and then saw this as the page refreshed.
Well done, sir!
September 17th, 2021 at 11:26 AM ^
Exactly - sneak it in the stadium somehow! Say it's one of those big sideline fans because it's supposed to be hot. Cover it with a tarp.
September 17th, 2021 at 11:43 AM ^
I think a wealthy Purdue alum should pony up the dough to get a crane in there to lift it into the stadium. get a snap shot of it hanging over TDJ
September 17th, 2021 at 2:04 PM ^
That is exactly what I would do. Purdue supposedly has a fine Engineering school. Make up a drone air lift and drop that sucker right in the middle of the field.
Also plaster an huge middle finger on the drum..........
PS: To hell with ND.....

September 17th, 2021 at 10:18 AM ^
Ah yes, the team that beat a terrible FSU team on a game winning field goal and beat Toledo on a last second touchdown should really be trying to piss off their B1G opponent
September 17th, 2021 at 10:22 AM ^
Relatedly, I'm convinced Purdue is actually a university of preschoolers. Their mascot is a train engineer and their claim to fame is a giant drum. Add to it the fact that they loudly declare that theirs is the biggest drum in the world despite significant evidence to the contrary.
September 17th, 2021 at 10:26 AM ^
None of that matters. We hate Our Lady with fierce passion here, and ALWAYS hope to see them beaten like, well, a big bass drum.
September 17th, 2021 at 10:42 AM ^
Purdue needs to show up and leave Purdon't in West Lafayette. It's a 'rivalry game' where the winner claims the Shillelagh Trophy; the drum drama just adds to the excitement!
September 17th, 2021 at 10:29 AM ^
TO HELL WITH NOTRE DAME!!!
September 17th, 2021 at 10:47 AM ^
“… You Cath-o-lic schools start much too late…”
September 17th, 2021 at 11:07 AM ^
EF Notre Dame. I hope Purdue takes it personally and wipes the floor with ND.
Facilities issues aside proper rooting interest is to root for anyone in the B1G playing against OSU, ND or MSU.
September 17th, 2021 at 11:39 AM ^
My hatred for OSU is rivaled only by my hatred for ND. Growing up, I never thought much about MSU -- so I never developed the full, foaming-at-the-mouth antipathy for them.
September 17th, 2021 at 12:03 PM ^
Dantonio and Narduzzi took care of that for me. I used to cheer for State when they weren't playing Michigan.
September 17th, 2021 at 3:23 PM ^
That’s me as well. Before Dantonio I disliked but respected MSU. Maybe I’ll get back to that with Tucker, but for now…
September 19th, 2021 at 4:14 PM ^
Me too. I thought Percy Snow was a bad man. Then the whole Demond getting killed in the endzone with no flag and the rest went down hill from there.
September 17th, 2021 at 11:10 AM ^
This is pretty much the only time I root for Purdue. That and when they play Ohio State. Fuck Notre Dame. I hope Purdue puts up 50 on that terrible defense.
September 17th, 2021 at 11:11 AM ^
Couldn’t happen to a better school. Purdue and West Lafayette are both trash.
September 17th, 2021 at 11:22 AM ^
It's so funny these petty little micro-aggressions for no real reason by schools. Other than just wanting to be able to say "No" I can't imagine there's a practical reason for ND saying they can't bring in this drum.
September 17th, 2021 at 11:25 AM ^
This is an opportunity to demonstrate the engineering skills. Create a drum than can be broken down and have the band assemble it inside the stadium.
September 17th, 2021 at 11:31 AM ^
They could just helicopter it in.
September 17th, 2021 at 11:33 AM ^
I can't stand ND, and I think this is the biggest waste of BS ever. What friggen reason exists for this asshatery?
That said, I LOVE it!!! Reminds me of when OSU turned off the hot water in Michigan's hotel rooms back in the days of yore (otherwise known as the 10-Year War). As a Michigan fan (as young as I was), I thought it was complete BS and poor sportsmanship. But, as I look back on it, what a story for the rivalry...
Fuck off, OSU! Oh, wait - this is about ND!
Fuck off, Noder Dame!!!
September 17th, 2021 at 12:05 PM ^
So, Gordon Gee was right when he talked about what a pain in the ass ND is?!
September 17th, 2021 at 12:06 PM ^
This ND loss is going to be known as The Curse of the Worlds Biggest Drum
