Will You Root For the Chargers? and Will Jim Win A Super Bowl With the Chargers?

Submitted by FlaWolverine22 on January 25th, 2024 at 7:09 AM

I want to start this off by saying I love Jim Harbaugh. I’m very thankful for what we accomplished here and I will absolutely root for him to succeed in the NFL again. As far as winning a Super Bowl, I’m not so sure he’ll be able to win one. I think he’ll make the AFC Championship Game twice in 5 years. I can’t see him making it past Mahomes, Burrow and Josh Allen right now.

I will cheer for Jim, like any other Michigan Man, when he has a sporting contest.  I expect him to be in contention, nearly immediately.  The Raiders are still a mess and Denver is rebuilding.  KC is going through the same distractions that Dallas went through with Jessica Simpson.  I could see them either winning the division or getting a wild card in year one.

If it doesn't negatively affect the Packers I will not hold any Ill will. I also have shares of Herbert in dynasty so I'm rooting for his success. I am glad Green Bay won't ever see him in the playoffs, barring a super bowl. Soonest LAC could play a team from the NFC north would be for the 17th game in 2025.

Nothing against Jim, I hope he does well but the Chargers aren’t my team so I’m not going to root for them suddenly just because he’s the coach. And never say never about winning a Super Bowl, but once they left San Diego, the Chargers organization struck me as similar to the Clippers whereas the Rams are the Lakers.  I have a hard time seeing them ever winning it all.

I won't root for the Chargers and I won't be rooting for Jim. My loyalty lies with Michigan. I stopped watching the NFL and don't care much for the product. Jim Harbaugh is the first successful Michigan football coach in my life to walk away from the program and it feels like a death has taken place. I, personally, think he is making a big mistake.

If I do take up a rooting interest in the NFL it is typically for Michigan players that are doing well such as Tom Brady or Charles Woodson.

Not an NFL fan anymore, but I might keep an eye on the Chargers going forward. Would absolutely root for him to win a Super Bowl.

EDIT: to show how disconnected I am from the NFL I had no idea the Chargers were in LA now.

I will not. I hope it's a disaster and leaving Michigan ends up being a poor choice.  It's a traditionless transplant Great Value shared stadium franchise in a city I think is trash with shit ownership.  It would have been interesting if he had took over for a more prestigious NFL team. I also am not an NFL fan so don't really care.  I don't care to watch press conference and the fan fare around this. It's nauseating that we couldn't enjoy the Natty for 3 fucking seconds before Harbaugh's future took over the news and it dragged on like it does. I am forever grateful for what he brought to Michigan, but I could give fuck all to what he brings to the Chargers and what he does there.  I wish him perfect health, the best for his family but I wouldn't mind at all if he had a losing record every year and has to wonder what could have been had he stayed at Michigan. That's what we get to wonder so an eye for an eye there.

NO and NO.

I think JH will last about 4 years at Chargers. About average for his coaching career.

He rubs people the wrong way in upper management.

Like Beilein he's gonna regret this.

If I had some idea that the Chargers would win a Super Bowl, I would be making a lot of money off it. If Harbaugh's past holds true, then he will have them competing for an AFC championship. Good luck coach. Appreciate all you did for the program. Can't fault a man for wanting to move up levels of competition.  Being jaded about this is some small d energy.

I hope he does well in LA. He accomplished the mission here in Ann Arbor and did more than we could've ever reasonably asked. He took Michigan to the mountaintop, and I'll always be grateful to him for that. So I hope he wins a Super Bowl.

That said, I doubt he does.

I think he could've won one in Atlanta eventually, because that division is trash, Atlanta has some good pieces in place already and they have some cap space. All they need to win that division is a QB.

With LA, you have no cap space, and you're dealing with Pat Mahomes for as long as you are coaching in LA. Mahomes will be in KC for another decade anyway, and I'm not sure Harbaugh has 10+ years in him with the Chargers. Or really any NFL team for that matter. I'm curious if it'll eventually be another SF situation where he just starts to wear on the players and front staff and eventually, for better or worse they decide they're better off without him.

Then again, a few years ago I thought beating OSU was too tall a task for him and a national title was a pipe dream. Lo and behold, he did it anyway, so I take it he's betting on himself and thinking he can find a way best Mahomes on a frequent enough basis to get into the playoffs and win a championship.

I'm just glad the annual will he go/will he stay is over.  No more "Raiders are still in play", no more having to listen to Adam Fucking Shefter talk about it.  At least for a few years, after Moore leads us to a few Big 10 Championship and playoff wins, then maybe it'll start up again.

I do love how salty Ohio State fans are though.  You'd think they'd be more upset that no one wants their crappy coach!

I’m first and foremost a Michigan fan that is also a Lions fan.  For the NFL, I only watch Lions games, so I don’t really feel a vested interest in Jim Harbaugh or the Charger’s performance going forward.  I’m not rooting for or against him. I just don’t really care from this point forward.

This is fair. While I expected it, I always held out a little hope. I wish he would have just said “I accomplished what I set out to do; I’m going to resign to pursue an NFL opportunity.” While I think Moore will be a good coach and can definitely grow into the role, I would have also liked to have kicked the tires on other options. Maybe Lanning didn’t want to take over for Saban, but maybe Michigan would have been a better fit? Who knows? Seems like he has it good at Oregon, so likely not. But we’ll never find out. Michigan seemed like it was plan B if the NFL didn’t work out.

I’m not a huge NFL guy, so probably not. I’m a Lions fan, but I no longer watch random NFL games unless it’s the playoffs whereas I’ll catch some weekday MACtion and stay up for PAC12 after dark.

I will root for Jim Harbaugh. I don't care about the Chargers at all, other than the fact that he will be coaching them.

I wish him the best of luck. Winning a Super Bowl is very challenging for any NFL coach. We will see.

I’m a fan of his first NFL team but won’t be a Bolts fan. Now he has to go thru my other team KC, and likely hi brother just to get to the Super Bowl.  With a team that has to crash at their Bro’s house cuz they couldn’t hold San Diego hostage for a new house. Don’t see it.

Yes, I'll root for Jim.  I did when he was at Stanford and SF (albeit I had to plug my nose a bit as a Lions fan)

And especially now since Jim did come to Michigan and kept his promise to bring Michigan back to the top of college football and leave it in better shape that he found it.

There is ZERO arguments that he did not do what he promised.  I suspect that Jim believed that it would have all happened sooner than later, but he stuck with it and it got done.  (Yay I know that he was within an Vikings Owners whim of heading to Minnesota.  It didn't happen and that is the past)

As for winning a Super Bowl.  Its possible, on the plus side he has 1 of the best young QB (particularly talent wise) in the league.  That alone is a great start.  Secondly, they have top end talent on defense (just shockingly bad at how they play together) but the talent is there.

The biggest hurdle they have to manage right now is the fact that his skilled players on the offense are getting older (by NFL standards) and the Chargers are $54M over the cap.  That will take a year or 2 to sort out then they will be ready for lift off.  Only to face a competitive AFC with Jackson, Burrow, Allen, and Mahomes.

Last two thoughts...

1) I would not bet against Jim, his track record states he will get it done...

2) Bet your home equity on Jim drafting Blake in this upcoming draft...

Absolutely not.  I appreciate what he did for the program, but we were never his want, much like a girlfriend who is always looking for another guy. You had wonderful times together, but I'm not hoping for her and her next guy to be happy together.

No and no.

He no longer works for UM so why should I root for him?

It took him seven years to break through at UM. He won’t get that anywhere near that amount of time in LA. By year three I suspect we will see a frazzled relationship between Harbaugh and the Spanos.

Harbaugh will win games in LA, but not at the level Chargers fans will want. They will be blocked by the the elite QBs in their own division and conference.

As a Lions fan, I'm glad Jim is in the AFC now. I can have my cake and eat it to because any win is good and a win against an NFC is even better. So, yeah I'm rooting for him and John to play for the AFC Championship every year. But I'm rooting for the Lions over LAC when they play in the next five Super Bowls.

But, I'll tell you this. If Harbaugh can win in SF with the QBs he had, he's going to build a monster in LA with Herbert.

I won’t root for them. I only root for the Lions. I appreciate what Jim did and don’t begrudge him the right to try this out, but he’s just another coach to me in the NFL. I do think the chargers have a better chance to win the Super Bowl than they did two days ago, but ultimately I don’t think they will.

I'm happy for him that he is getting a chance again to chase another one of his bucket list items, but I couldn't care less about the NFL or who wins the Super Bowl. My wife told me years ago that I cannot get sucked into caring about another team to the same level as Michigan because it's "just too much to deal with."

im a broncos fan, so ... meh. but if mahomes comes back to earth, then i guess so. If Jimmy starts sending quality assistants our way, then more likely to...

I won't root against him, but not sure I can root for a division rival
