It’s my understanding that Michigan admissions doesn’t NOT admit some of these players we wring our hands over, it’s just that they’re not willing to give someone a U-M diploma if that person has earned the majority of their credits elsewhere. From what I understand, look at Terrence Shannon and Caleb Love. They were both within a handful of credits from graduating at Texas Tech and UNC respectively. But they didn’t and they wanted to come here, grab 6-10 credits and get a U-M degree. This is where admissions says that no more than 60 credits (half you need for a bachelor’s degree) can transfer over. Thus they aren’t necessarily denied admission it’s just that U-M doesn’t want to be a diploma factory giving out degrees to folks who completed the majority of their credits elsewhere. People can disagree on whether or not they like that policy, but it seems reasonable to me, if my understanding of these cases is correct.
This is huge news. Now we just need a defenseman or two to stay. And I keep forgetting Jackson Hallum was a good looking player who was injured very early this season. I assume he’ll be back and hopefully 100% healthy.
I agree - thinking Chicago would be in no hurry to sign him since they are still a long way away. Same with Columbus and Brindley, so I guess we’ll wait and see but losing both those guys would suck. Duke is one I’m interested in. As a junior I think his NHL team loses his rights if he doesn’t sign. Would love to get at least 2 back of Brindley, Duke and McGroarty but guys gotta do what they gotta do.
Season’s over, Sparty! I will give them credit - heck of a year for them. Big Ten champs and where they were just a few years ago, that’s a huge improvement. But they can suck it!

Think of it this way - if we had just beaten them 4 out of 5, including an OT game that we were lucky to have won, and then we get rewarded with a 1 seed but with them as our potential second round opponent, I’d be pissed and also scared to death that they’d ruin our season. I was at Michigan in 1994 when we broke through and finally won the CCHA playoff against Lake Superior State (behind Brian Wiseman, David Oliver, Mike Knuble, freshman Brendan Morrison, Steve Shields) - they had our number for many years before that breakthrough. It was our first CCHA tournament title. We beat LSSU all 3 regular season meetings and shut them out in the title game to move to 4-0 against them on the season. We got a #1 seed and a first round bye (back when the NCAA tourney was just 12 teams) and we ended up playing Lake State at Munn when they won their first round game. They beat us in OT and they got the trip to the Frozen 4. Then they ended up winning it all. Trust me, all the pressure would be on MSU.
The two bullshit goals - disallowing Brindley’s and somehow thinking State’s 3rd goal went in on review - fucked us. Also, can’t allow a goal with less than a second remaining in the period. Same type of shit has happened all season. This MSU team reminds me of their 2021 football team - lots of luck going their way.
If we were a basketball school and willing to pay whatever buyout, I’d want Iowa State’s coach. But the sad truth is that Iowa State supports basketball more than Michigan does.
Gotta make the players employees to open collective bargaining so they can enforce some type of rules. The current situation is so insane I don’t know how this is good for anyone.
If Warde wanted to actually be a leader in something, he should be out there promoting the idea of paying the players directly so that they can open up collective bargaining. It’s the only way to get some type of control over this Wild West bullshit going on right now.
With conference expansion, I guess this makes sense. Almost all of the Blue Bloods are now in either the Big Ten or SEC. And let’s face it - those teams draw better than others and bring in the money. How can they make more? Guaranteeing the most teams in the CFP. But what comes next? If I’m the AD at a “lesser” school in those conferences, I’d be nervous. I can see a situation - much like FSU in the ACC where they want a higher percentage of the overall revenue because they bring in more than say, Wale Forest. Eventually the top teams in the SEC will wonder why Vandy gets the same share as Bama or Georgia? And Michigan, OSU, PSU may start to think the same way about the Indianas and Northwesterns. Why are they hauling in an equal share? Are we that far away from an eventual 20 to 24 team super league forming - at least for football? We’ll soon be at two 20 team super conferences. Why would the weeding out process stop there?
I have had concerns about Narauto from the get go - I think Warde should have picked Muckalt as our interim coach. I know people said he may have been passed over as he was too close to Mel, but if you think he should be implicated in what happened under Mel, why retain him at all?

Why you want the ball first in the NFL OT: if you score a TD and then the other team scores a TD (or you each kick a FG or you each don’t score) it then becomes sudden death with you getting the ball again and your opponent wouldn’t be guaranteed to get the ball again. If SF scored a TD and then KC scored a TD, SF gets the ball again and a FG wins it. In college, each team is guaranteed the same number of possessions which is why going defense first is an advantage because it lets the offense know what they need.
I think this is true for most sports. For instance, the Final Four is better than the national championship game (partly because they’re played on a Saturday rather than a Monday night and also because there are 2 games) and college football - the Rose Bowl and Sugar Bowl back-to-back on Jan 1 is better than a Monday night national championship (played at an NFL Stadium - and I know the Sugar Bowl is at an NFL stadium, too). I’m looking forward to New Year’s Day having 3 quarterfinal games this upcoming year.
Someone please tell me we have some stud recruits coming in next year? Besides our top line plus Hughes and Dylan Duke, this team’s talent level is not great. Most great teams have that senior-laden line that can play defense against top units and chip in goals in key spots. Think the Moyle line last year. We have nothing close to that. And if those top 5 guys move on, it’s not far fetched to think next year’s team could be as bad as our hoops squad is this year.
Ethan Edwards, who was a stalwart the last two seasons has been very turnover prone this year. That jump out to me. Also, the Draper, Moldenhauer, Schifsky line was badly outplayed this weekend. They never seemed to be a threat and were on the ice for too many goals against.
At this point, I sorta wish we gave Minter the head coaching position. Defense was the bell cow of the 2023 team and has the most impactful returners for 2024. Now we are losing everyone from the defensive staff and who knows if players get poached. It could be ugly this season, especially with our murderous schedule. I was all in on Moore if it meant continuity. This is not continuity.
Herbert wanted a long-term deal. Warde wouldn’t give it to him. Warde needs to be shown the door immediately before he does any more damage to the athletic department.
Some of these things may have happened regardless of any actions by Warde, but much like a President gets credit or blame for things on their watch that may be outside of their actual control, these things have all occurred under Warde:
1) Lost the best basketball coach the school has ever had.
2) Lost our College World Series baseball coach.
3) Bypassed our best recruiter on the hockey staff, Bill Muckalt, and gave the job to Naurato (jury still out on this one).
4) Refuses to do the “pay-for-play” NIL game that everyone else seems to be playing.
5) Our national championship football coach leaves.
Again, maybe these things happen with a different AD and maybe they don’t. But the future of the department is not looking very bright with Warde in charge.
Nothing against Jim, I hope he does well but the Chargers aren’t my team so I’m not going to root for them suddenly just because he’s the coach. And never say never about winning a Super Bowl, but once they left San Diego, the Chargers organization struck me as similar to the Clippers whereas the Rams are the Lakers. I have a hard time seeing them ever winning it all.
I’m not very computer savvy but is there a way to save the YouTube videos to my computer or external hard drive so that I can have them saved forever in case YouTube ever deletes them, like they did with parkinggod’s highlight videos?

D-line of Graham, KG, Moore and Stewart is a good base for the defense. Benny as well. Need some of the young guys to step up for depth.
