Will Johnson's family says he's staying
The Will Johnson to Alabama rumors are "ALL CAP," per the family. He is staying at Michigan

Maybe he's going to try moonwalking from one side of our Great Country to the other.

It's still shocking to me that Domani Jackson stayed put at Bama after Saban left. Must have gotten enough money for him to want to stay and play under that Frankenstein of a coaching staff that Bama put together
February 21st, 2024 at 3:07 PM ^
What does "ALL CAP" mean? Does he mean "ALL CRAP"? Or does he like typing in ALL CAPS?
February 21st, 2024 at 3:15 PM ^
Currently slang for "all lies".

Barbara Billingsly (Beaver's mom) saying : "Jus' hang loose, blood. She gonna catch ya up on da rebound on da med side." is script writing brilliance.

With no connotation, I read the statement to my 13-year-old and asked for a translation. He said, "Dad, that means all lies."

He probably learned in history class this week that Churchill said," A cap gets halfway around the world before the truth has a chance to get its pants on".

My boys use this word. I think you’re on the right track with “all crap.” I always thought it meant “bull crap” but I’m a middle aged dad who no longer cares about what’s cool and wonder why women wearing skinny jeans went out of style. (Yes, I get mocked for that one)
February 22nd, 2024 at 6:17 AM ^
The mom jeans they wear now are terrible... Also, men wearing skinny jeans should not be a thing.
February 21st, 2024 at 3:08 PM ^
Thanks for the clarification OP because otherwise I wouldn’t know what ALL CAP means.
February 22nd, 2024 at 6:20 AM ^
It's the same thing Semaj said after Harbaugh dragged him into a post-game interview after the B1G CG, only backwards - "best freshman on the field, no cap". Meaning he was the best freshman on the field, no lie.
I speak jive. A little broken, but I have some in the drawer...

WHAT DOES 'ALL CAP' MEAN?
ASKING FOR A FRIEND WHO NEEDS HEARING AIDS.

I want to know if “all cap” in all caps has special significance.
February 21st, 2024 at 3:14 PM ^
I think No Cap means no lie, or for real. So presumably All Cap means all lies.
February 21st, 2024 at 3:16 PM ^
A statement that’s factually incorrect or a lie. Often used as a phrase “no cap” (all facts) or “all cap” (all lies). - urban dictionary
February 21st, 2024 at 3:18 PM ^
"Cap" is something that is untrue, as in, "That's cap." I presume a "short" form of crap.
"No cap" = "You're not lying."
February 21st, 2024 at 3:38 PM ^
The phrase is rooted in African American Vernacular English (AAVE), or Black speech separate from standard English. As early as the 1900s, "to cap" meant to brag, exaggerate or lie about something, according to Dictionary.com.
Additionally, "no cap" can be used to describe something that has no limit. In the "Green’s Dictionary of Slang" in the 1940s, "to cap" meant "to surpass." Therefore, "cap" could be defined as the "top" or "upper limit", according to Dictionary.com.

No, he's talking about capitated claims. After his success selling sunglasses, he's moving on to selling comprehensive health insurance. So by "all cap" he's of course saying there's no carveouts.
February 21st, 2024 at 8:18 PM ^
The premium is capitated, not the claims. But even in global cap arrangements, there can still be carve outs.
But I'm still upvoting you for the clever response!
February 21st, 2024 at 3:53 PM ^
You just sucked all the coolness out of it.
February 21st, 2024 at 5:04 PM ^
'cap' is also gangster slang for a bullet or a shot. as in 'ima gonna put a cap in yo' ass', meaning, 'i'm going to shoot you'
does that put some 'cool' back in it?
bonus points: you will be shot with his 'gat' (rhymes with 'cat'), and short for gatling gun, the 1800's first multi-barrel/multi-shot weapon. seen below with the outlaw josey wales doing a test-shoot. with his gat. putting lots of caps in lots of asses.

It'd be nice if it was him saying it, but I'll take it. Still, he's not one of the guys on D I'm particularly worried about jumping ship for a year.

Yes, as were were going nuts over that awesome sack in the championship game - I do suppose all the fans of other teams watching were thinking: 'can we buy THAT guy?'
Unfortunately, a number of those fans are rich boosters.

Its probably in his best interest to stay, anyway. Depending on where he goes, he may have to learn a completely different defense, and he's projected right now in many circles as the first corner off the board in the 2025 draft.
Sure, he could go somewhere else like Alabama and make more money than he could at Michigan. But then he's learning a whole new system for just one year, and those transition costs could cost him draft capital and cause him to fall down the draft board next year. Falling even 5-10 spots can cost you millions.
Or he could stay at Michigan, stay in virtually the same system he's already been in for the last two years, just keep doing what he's been doing, and head off to the league after next season as the #1 corner taken in the draft.
Its also one of those things where other programs selling him on the idea of winning a national championship doesn't carry as much weight as it normally would. Will's response could simply be "That's great. I've ALREADY WON a national championship. What else do you have to offer?" If all they have to offer is money, I'd caution him about wanting more money now in the short term, possibly at the expense of losing a lot more money in the long term.
February 21st, 2024 at 4:20 PM ^
Its embarrassing that its a known fact that kids can make more money at even a school like Alabama who supposedly has terrible NIL too.
This MUST change or Michigan will continue to be targeted. At least do what ND is doing pay your players but don't discuss it.
Michigan only needs to have a match mentality because you're still Michigan so your degree is tops and now that we won a national title we offer that too.
February 21st, 2024 at 4:55 PM ^
Doesn't seem like Michigan is having an issue paying its current roster. Guys like Keegan, Zinter and Corum have dropped subtle hints in the past that they were/are making really good money at Michigan.
Where Michigan has an issue (and it seems very much to be a conscious choice) is to not pay recruits. They're banking on finding guys willing to bet on themselves in the hope that the money will come later. Which is fine. If that's what you want to do as a program then so be it.
You just need to be ready to have the door slammed in your face by most every blue-chip recruit out there.
February 21st, 2024 at 5:05 PM ^
If MIchigan is the only one avoiding allocating big bucks to unproven recruits, then it should have enough left over to induce proven transfers to come to Michigan.

https://www.on3.com/nil/rankings/player/college/football/Take this for what it is worth, but On3 has an NIL ranking list on their website and lists Johnson valuation at $763,000 and that is #34. To put it in perspective, Downs left Alabama and one of the reasons was wanting more NIL. Downs is listed as #19 with a valuation of $906,000.
I don't pretend to know exactly what goes into their valuations but in Johnson's case, is it worth it to uproot everything and move to a new environment for say $143,000 in valuation which would equal Downs?
I'm guessing that Johnson has a very healthy NIL deal, and he could perhaps hit the portal and make a little bit more, but that little bit isn't enough to offset the relationships and environment he already has.

Whoa..Sanders value is 4.7M ? does that that's what he got from CU ? AMD mcCord 700K.. he got that from Syracuse ?
February 22nd, 2024 at 8:32 AM ^
This is only a guess, but I think that is a result of some national television advertising campaigns he has been involved in.
February 21st, 2024 at 3:31 PM ^
It felt like a lot of the talk about him leaving was opposing fanbases trying to talk it into existence, but good to see that publicly discussed.
Also, I know everyone is talking about the 25th as a cut-off but then there's spring ball portal time, so at this point getting worked up about anyone possibly leaving is a year-long process.
February 21st, 2024 at 3:46 PM ^
I long for the days when player decision stress was primarily focused around National Signing Day.
February 21st, 2024 at 4:23 PM ^
I think the thing is key guys who stick around for the 30 day period are unlikely to jump ship during the spring period.
If you stuck around despite Harbaugh, Herbert, Minter, Elston, and Clinkscale leaving and you have a key role on the team, you probably aren't leaving in April.
What we will have for sure is playing time transfers. Guys who go through spring practice and are buried on the depth chart or like Sabb want to go somewhere that they'll play a more central role. But that's something every team has to deal with. What we're not likely to have in the April window is continued transition costs.
February 21st, 2024 at 7:14 PM ^
Absolutely. I fully expect some guys to shake out during the post-spring period due to playing time concerns, but I'm more just pointing out that even after 2/25 there will likely still be some defections (and likely some additions as well).
Right now UM (and I guess UCLA) are the two schools with open cupboards for transfers so the focus is on them, but once that's done they'll just be one of 132 other schools.
February 22nd, 2024 at 10:18 AM ^
Sure but that's the sort of attrition we would have seen whether Harbaugh stayed or not.
As opposed to guys leaving because of the transition.
