He hit somebody two years ago. He has gotten into screaming matches with other coaches. All of these are violations of the university’s policies on workplace violence and aggression.

Woody Hayes got fired in 1979 for what Howard did in 2022. What does it say about Warde that he will protect a  basketball coach for something Ohio State fired their greatest football coach for?

True to some degree. He isn't coaching. But he is part of what was once a rock solid foundation that kept the players  engaged and in shape during the off season when coaches couldn't interact with them. He obviously is more dispensable than the HC. Should he decide to leave, we'll find out soon enough just how important he was to the team.

I don't think it was overstated for the Beilein guys...that's exactly what they needed.

But I think it's overstated now...you're building rosters from the transfer portal, you're no longer taking four overlooked 17 year olds and transforming their bodies. Now it might be two transfers and two HS recruits.

So yeah, now? There's far less of an impact.

It's just like Coach Herb for Football. When he gets guys as freshman for 2-3 years, it's a night and day difference. But I haven't heard a single person talk about how LaDarius Henderson, Drake Nugent, or Josh Wallace have completely transformed themselves...they were grown men when they got to Michigan.

It's kind of basic logic, but Sanderson has the mythical aura around him so he became untouchable (and I think he's a FANTASTIC strength coach...I just think college basketball has changed in how you build a roster. For guys like Washington or Khayat? He's still one of the best in the business)

Well he's hasn't been a HC this season, right? So how can you fire him for performance now?

If you were going to fire him for performance, you do it right after last season. At this point, he's 0-0 and you have to see what he can do.

Michigan struggled versus Maryland...no one was blaming Harbaugh for that. He wasn't the HC. Obviously this is different, but I'm not sure why Howard would get fired for performance when he hasn't performed this season.

Now is his shot.

I think both parties (Juwan and the AD) are done with this anyways. Tin foil hat hypothesis but I think both parties have agreed to part ways after the season and the university can save some face by just letting Juwan resign at the end of the year.

If I am right then maybe the AD can convince Sanderson to stay on with the agreement that Juwan is done after this year

As an UM employee I find how UM has handled Howard to be  disgraceful. This is an university that makes employees watch videos on violence in the workplace and repeating telling us that they have zero tolerance.

Then they turn around and allow a high profile employee slap another person in public and making a verbal threats without dismissal. If this were me I would have been instantly terminated even with Union protection.

Juwan Howard should have lost his job when he got Wisconsin’s coach. He didn’t. UM officially has become Indiana circa 1975-2000 except without the on the court success.

I know the B1G suspended Howard two years ago for the incident involving the Wisconsin coach, but I am surprised Warde suspended Harbaugh at the beginning of the season knowing the NCAA could suspend him as well, but did not punish Hiward for his incident knowing the B1G would also come down on Howard.  Howard's incident was a lot more severe than Harbaugh's.  If Howard is gone after this year, I hope he bounces back at a smaller conference and does well.  The big stage at Michigan seems to be too much for him.

I am surprised Warde suspended Harbaugh at the beginning of the season knowing the NCAA could suspend him as well, but did not punish Hiward for his incident knowing the B1G would also come down on Howard.

The difference is that preemptively suspending Harbaugh is supposed to theoretically placate the NCAA (it won't) whereas the Big Ten wasn't going to throw on extra punishment for us not taking action against Howard. (We see that ended up being the case with Petitti and Harbaugh but it was different with Warren and Howard.)

Still can't explain why Michigan wouldn't have suspended Howard after Wisconsin. I can't imagine we didn't think it was suspension worthy.

Juwan has won TWELVE more games after four years than John Beilein had over four. TWELVE.

And people here, with the memories of gerbils, SHAT on Beilein--a great coach--for years.

The way people rushed to embrace the innuendo of Jeff Goodman--known enemy of the program and of Juwan Howard--then didn't even listen to what he said, was disgusting and embarrassing.

Juwan didn't slap or verbally threaten anyone! He got mad at an employee, an employee of HIS, who started shouting that the culture of his program was garbage in front of the players. If you wouldn't get mad about that it would be clear to your employees that you were completely without balls.

The lynch mob has been so obsessed with Juwan here that they couldn't even focus on Sanderson's provocation. On the person who fucked up!

The rest of the staff did. Do you think Phil appreciated hearing that after running the program for the last three months? No, he did not.

Juwan has sent six guys to the NBA in three years, moved heaven and earth to put together a squad this summer, and fools here shout for blood. The lack of awareness, of loyalty, and not least basketball knowledge on this football site. . . has always been laughable.

Of COURSE Juwan wasn't getting fired. Better luck next time, haters. We've all seen enough to know what this one is all about. Especially from the likes of the perennial wingnut crackpots on this board.

Juwan has the makings of a good team here. Some of us will actually be watching it rather than just chiming in to shit talk. It won't be many, though. It never has been. At least not in my half-century of watching.
