Warde: "nothing was found" on Juwan
December 15th, 2023 at 10:05 PM ^
It’s not a fact. You don’t know more than the president, reagents and AD of Michigan
December 15th, 2023 at 10:27 PM ^
You don't know $&)(
December 15th, 2023 at 10:42 PM ^
You aren't a basketball coach though. Different rules.
December 15th, 2023 at 8:04 PM ^
Based on what?
Do you think other coaches staffs have never got in arguments?
Do you think athletics staff members have never gotten into arguments?
Based on what can you say if Howard was anyone else he would've been fired? Because I call bullshit.
December 15th, 2023 at 8:09 PM ^
He hit somebody two years ago. He has gotten into screaming matches with other coaches. All of these are violations of the university’s policies on workplace violence and aggression.
Woody Hayes got fired in 1979 for what Howard did in 2022. What does it say about Warde that he will protect a basketball coach for something Ohio State fired their greatest football coach for?
December 15th, 2023 at 9:01 PM ^
So every time a coach screams at an official, throws a hissy fit and gets tossed--workplace violence, right? Stop being disingenuous. There are different rules in this arena and you know it.
December 15th, 2023 at 9:15 PM ^
Woody Hayes hit a student. Juwan didn't. Ta da! A difference!
December 15th, 2023 at 9:31 PM ^
Woody hit a player, not another coach.
December 15th, 2023 at 10:27 PM ^
Go join Mel.
December 16th, 2023 at 11:27 AM ^
Your comments in this thread are unhinged, Sal. Go take a nap, bud. You're drowning in bad takes and digging a deeper and deeper hole for yourself. It's embarrassing.
December 15th, 2023 at 7:34 PM ^
Given that Warde Manuel apparently saw nothing wrong with the culture of Mel Pearson's hockey program, it's not a surprise that he would stick with Juwan here.
December 16th, 2023 at 10:00 AM ^
lynch mob? seriously? dude has been in 2-3 altercations now and has a public reputation as such now
December 15th, 2023 at 7:25 PM ^
Gonna be annoying when we lose Sanderson over this for a coach whos probably getting fired in the next two years anyway
December 15th, 2023 at 7:41 PM ^
Likely outcome. Or JH resigns.
December 15th, 2023 at 7:48 PM ^
Ha. JH is both coaches. That angered me at first until I realized you meant Juwan
December 15th, 2023 at 7:47 PM ^
If he hasn't been fired yet what makes you think he will ever get fired?
December 15th, 2023 at 7:49 PM ^
Meh. Sanderson’s impact on the program has always been way overstated.
December 15th, 2023 at 7:57 PM ^
True to some degree. He isn't coaching. But he is part of what was once a rock solid foundation that kept the players engaged and in shape during the off season when coaches couldn't interact with them. He obviously is more dispensable than the HC. Should he decide to leave, we'll find out soon enough just how important he was to the team.
December 15th, 2023 at 8:12 PM ^
I don't think it was overstated for the Beilein guys...that's exactly what they needed.
But I think it's overstated now...you're building rosters from the transfer portal, you're no longer taking four overlooked 17 year olds and transforming their bodies. Now it might be two transfers and two HS recruits.
So yeah, now? There's far less of an impact.
It's just like Coach Herb for Football. When he gets guys as freshman for 2-3 years, it's a night and day difference. But I haven't heard a single person talk about how LaDarius Henderson, Drake Nugent, or Josh Wallace have completely transformed themselves...they were grown men when they got to Michigan.
It's kind of basic logic, but Sanderson has the mythical aura around him so he became untouchable (and I think he's a FANTASTIC strength coach...I just think college basketball has changed in how you build a roster. For guys like Washington or Khayat? He's still one of the best in the business)
December 15th, 2023 at 8:25 PM ^
Having been on this site for quite awhile and a fan for much longer, I can share a well-known fact about strength and conditioning coaches: "The new guy is so much better than the last one."
That feeling remains strong...until the next guy is hired.
December 15th, 2023 at 8:28 PM ^
Same with the back up at almost any position.
Michigan holds more starters back than any school in the country.
Fun Fact: If we just played our 2nd team, we would've won at least 3 national championships under Harbaugh.
December 15th, 2023 at 9:12 PM ^
This board had me believing Rich Rod was going to be the next Bo because of Barwis. I actually believed that we truly had the secret weapon and the rest of college football was at such a massive disadvantage.
Then I saw our defense under RR...
December 16th, 2023 at 6:14 AM ^
I would promote Sanderson and eliminate the position. Make him Manager of the Ball boys. Then hire a new position “Nutrition and Muscle Builder” coach.
December 15th, 2023 at 9:39 PM ^
No. It hasn't.
December 15th, 2023 at 10:28 PM ^
Exactly
December 15th, 2023 at 7:56 PM ^
Warde will not fire him for performance. This statement proves it.
December 15th, 2023 at 8:15 PM ^
Well he's hasn't been a HC this season, right? So how can you fire him for performance now?
If you were going to fire him for performance, you do it right after last season. At this point, he's 0-0 and you have to see what he can do.
Michigan struggled versus Maryland...no one was blaming Harbaugh for that. He wasn't the HC. Obviously this is different, but I'm not sure why Howard would get fired for performance when he hasn't performed this season.
Now is his shot.
December 15th, 2023 at 8:57 PM ^
I'm going to assume you didn't really mean "proof" and meant "evidence." I don't even agree it's strong evidence, but it's obviously not proof.
December 15th, 2023 at 10:29 PM ^
Hey get over yourself.
December 15th, 2023 at 8:14 PM ^
I think both parties (Juwan and the AD) are done with this anyways. Tin foil hat hypothesis but I think both parties have agreed to part ways after the season and the university can save some face by just letting Juwan resign at the end of the year.
If I am right then maybe the AD can convince Sanderson to stay on with the agreement that Juwan is done after this year
December 15th, 2023 at 10:35 PM ^
The ole one for the IF'er, huh?
December 15th, 2023 at 7:26 PM ^
Good. Now we can fully focus on being a poorly run program with crappy culture. Glad that’s behind us
December 15th, 2023 at 7:27 PM ^
I’ll be very surprised if Juwan is our coach next year.
December 15th, 2023 at 7:28 PM ^
As an UM employee I find how UM has handled Howard to be disgraceful. This is an university that makes employees watch videos on violence in the workplace and repeating telling us that they have zero tolerance.
Then they turn around and allow a high profile employee slap another person in public and making a verbal threats without dismissal. If this were me I would have been instantly terminated even with Union protection.
Juwan Howard should have lost his job when he got Wisconsin’s coach. He didn’t. UM officially has become Indiana circa 1975-2000 except without the on the court success.
December 15th, 2023 at 7:32 PM ^
I don't have any grudge or vendetta against Juwan and hope the investigation was fair and the result was just
That said, I am sympathetic to your view. Might not feel fair for all.
December 15th, 2023 at 7:39 PM ^
It isn’t just this act. It’s a pattern of behavior that should have seen him fired almost two years ago if Warde followed university policy.
December 15th, 2023 at 8:31 PM ^
No argument from me
December 15th, 2023 at 10:36 PM ^
You should be relieved of all your prejudicial duties!!!
December 15th, 2023 at 7:40 PM ^
I know the B1G suspended Howard two years ago for the incident involving the Wisconsin coach, but I am surprised Warde suspended Harbaugh at the beginning of the season knowing the NCAA could suspend him as well, but did not punish Hiward for his incident knowing the B1G would also come down on Howard. Howard's incident was a lot more severe than Harbaugh's. If Howard is gone after this year, I hope he bounces back at a smaller conference and does well. The big stage at Michigan seems to be too much for him.
December 15th, 2023 at 9:06 PM ^
I am surprised Warde suspended Harbaugh at the beginning of the season knowing the NCAA could suspend him as well, but did not punish Hiward for his incident knowing the B1G would also come down on Howard.
The difference is that preemptively suspending Harbaugh is supposed to theoretically placate the NCAA (it won't) whereas the Big Ten wasn't going to throw on extra punishment for us not taking action against Howard. (We see that ended up being the case with Petitti and Harbaugh but it was different with Warren and Howard.)
Still can't explain why Michigan wouldn't have suspended Howard after Wisconsin. I can't imagine we didn't think it was suspension worthy.
December 15th, 2023 at 9:18 PM ^
I didn't think it was suspension worthy. Didn't the Wisconsin coach assault our player first?
December 15th, 2023 at 9:44 PM ^
That argument might work on the street, but not in the workplace. He should have been suspended, no question.
December 16th, 2023 at 12:59 AM ^
If Howard is gone after this season he will be coaching in the NBA. Make no mistake, he is an NBA player and coach.
We are lucky to have him.
December 15th, 2023 at 7:50 PM ^
That's just it ...they're protecting him like he's some god, but he sucks
December 15th, 2023 at 8:09 PM ^
If this were me I would have been instantly terminated even with Union protection.
Well, yeah. Common dudes like us can be near-instantly replaced by any one of thousand applicants. The pool of dudes who can run a P5 program, even at a mediocre level, is less than the number of P5 programs in existence.
December 15th, 2023 at 8:23 PM ^
That doesn’t justify discriminatory actions.
Woody Hayes was replaced and he was an infinitely better coach than Howard. Somehow OSU found someone to replace him.
December 15th, 2023 at 9:42 PM ^
Please define how this is discrimination? Based on what?
December 15th, 2023 at 10:38 PM ^
Based on him being an imbecile. That's it!!!
December 15th, 2023 at 10:38 PM ^
You are disturbed!
December 15th, 2023 at 8:10 PM ^
Juwan has won TWELVE more games after four years than John Beilein had over four. TWELVE.
And people here, with the memories of gerbils, SHAT on Beilein--a great coach--for years.
The way people rushed to embrace the innuendo of Jeff Goodman--known enemy of the program and of Juwan Howard--then didn't even listen to what he said, was disgusting and embarrassing.
Juwan didn't slap or verbally threaten anyone! He got mad at an employee, an employee of HIS, who started shouting that the culture of his program was garbage in front of the players. If you wouldn't get mad about that it would be clear to your employees that you were completely without balls.
The lynch mob has been so obsessed with Juwan here that they couldn't even focus on Sanderson's provocation. On the person who fucked up!
The rest of the staff did. Do you think Phil appreciated hearing that after running the program for the last three months? No, he did not.
Juwan has sent six guys to the NBA in three years, moved heaven and earth to put together a squad this summer, and fools here shout for blood. The lack of awareness, of loyalty, and not least basketball knowledge on this football site. . . has always been laughable.
Of COURSE Juwan wasn't getting fired. Better luck next time, haters. We've all seen enough to know what this one is all about. Especially from the likes of the perennial wingnut crackpots on this board.
Juwan has the makings of a good team here. Some of us will actually be watching it rather than just chiming in to shit talk. It won't be many, though. It never has been. At least not in my half-century of watching.
