You had four chances to…

You had four chances to spell the guy’s name right…

Meh.  Ditch the "LIONS" and …

Meh.  Ditch the "LIONS" and "DETROIT" atop the uniforms and they'd be better.  Putting the name of the team/city on the jersey is cheesy and reminds me of high school.   If your jersey is properly designed, it will stand out without that.

I come to MGoBlog for this…

I come to MGoBlog for this kind of inside info.

Diabate wasn’t drafted…

Diabate wasn’t drafted because of his production at Michigan.  He was a 5-star recruit and didn’t play like that at all, outside of a couple of games.  (He’s also done nothing at all in the pros.) It’s a major stretch to say he “developed” here.

Bufkin indeed had a really nice sophomore season, but also came here as a McDonald’s All-American.  He basically did what he was expected to do when he came here.  I’m not sure if that qualifies as a big development victory.

At least we got two years out of Bufkin.  One of the most frustrating things about the Juwan years was that he had a knack for finding overrated blue-chip guys who didn’t do much here, yet were somehow draftable.  We got little out of Houstan, Diabate and Jett and they were all gone after one season, leaving roster holes that we couldn’t fill.

I know this is your shtick -…

I know this is your shtick - to act like Michigan fans are a bunch of ungrateful good-for-nothings for not appreciating the inner beauty in an 8-24 season - but seriously, considering how disastrously bad this season was, I think our fanbase  mostly handled things in stride.  Most people wanted things to work out with Juwan, but they just didn’t.  I haven’t seen anyone here wish him ill going forward.

Same with Reed.  Our starting center is transferring out and most of us have just shrugged and said, “Good for him.”

As much as people call…

As much as people call Harbaugh a loose cannon, he's actually shown a lot of discretion in his public statements, choosing to take the high road for the most part.  We can't say the same for the NCAA.

I didn’t realize our coaches…

I didn’t realize our coaches were indentured servants.

Jim brought them to Michigan.  It was their choice to follow him or stay.

And you’re ignoring the…

And you’re ignoring the possibility that part of his motivation to look for NFL jobs was because he was frustrated working for Warde.

Yes, but the thing is that…

Yes, but the thing is that Kevin Garnett and Kobe Bryant were ... two different people.

Because the Wings' fans are…

Because the Wings' fans are from the city of Detroit?  If anything, they'd have probably done even better in Oakland County.

These are excuses.  Phoenix is just not a hockey city.

4th largest city in the…

4th largest city in the country.

And if other Sun Belt cities are any indication, what that means is:

-96% of the population won't give a shit about hockey.

-2% of the population will care, but only because they're transplants and will cheer for their own teams over the Houston Scaryanimals.

-2% will actually care about the Scaryanimals, which won't be enough to keep the franchise healthy.

There is a key difference…

There is a key difference between SLC and Vegas.  In Vegas, the Knights are the only winter sports team playing (and were the first major team in the city, period).  In SLC, the Coyotes will have to share things with the Jazz, in a pretty small market.  I have some doubts.

Though at least it's a city that what knows what snow is.

It should be Quebec City. …

It should be Quebec City.  The NHL needs to stop obsessing over raw population data and focus on where the hockey fans actually are.

The Nordiques had a great fanbase.  They moved because they couldn't build a new arena at the time and the NHL had no salary cap.  Both of those have been taken care of now.

it makes more sense to…

it makes more sense to horde

So we should invade from Central Asia?

(I think you mean hoard.)

I also just do not like…

I also just do not like forcing guys out.

I don't have a strong opinion on whether he should stay or not, but it's always been considered fair game for a coach to give a "firm handshake" after four years.  When you give a guy a scholarship, you're committing to him for four years.  The fifth is at the coach's discretion.

Ryan Day: "I heard you might…

It's a rigorous screening process.

Ryan Day: "I heard you might be soft."

Carlos Locklyn: "I'm not."

Ryan Day: "Welcome aboard!"

 the strength program dark…

the strength program dark ages at that time.

An age so dark that we regularly won Big Ten titles and brought home a national title.

Barwis was one of the best self-promoters I've ever seen.

Are you primarily a football…

Are you primarily a football fan?  MSU is a much bigger deal in basketball than OSU.  If any one opponent moves the needle at all, it’s them.

But really, no individual game matters that much, at least not in the regular season.

John Beilein went 10-22 in his first season.  We may be looking at something like that, if we can’t land some of the FAU guys in the portal.  As with Beilein, it may mean absolutely nothing in the long run.

Are you new to this whole…

Are you new to this whole concept of “fandom?”

Meh, we’re reigning national…

Meh, we’re reigning national champions in football no matter what happens on the hardwood.  And honestly, they’ve got to feel a little awkward cheering for a guy that got arrested on rape charges.  Yes, innocent until proven guilty and all that, but still.

Manny was a recruit who…

Udoh, yes (although he transferred out soon after).

Manny was a recruit at the time who kept his commitment.  He never played for Amaker.

Beilein's first team didn't…

Beilein's first team didn't have a lot of returning guys (although it did retain DeShawn Sims).  Fortunately - unlike 2007 - the portal exists now.

We criticized Juwan for not…

We criticized Juwan for not having any HC experience. Dusty doesn’t really have much either. His FF run seems more of a “flash in pan” than consistency.

Lol.  How dare he only reach the Final Four once at FAU!

You're just mad that we no longer have a coach from Chicago, aren't you?

Per his friend Todd Anson,…

Per his friend Todd Anson, Jim's relationship with Warde was always strained, at best, and that was a big reason why he continually looked to the pros.   While he may have had the itch to leave anyway, working with Warde apparently made that itch worse.  With Jim unlikely to ever speak on the record about this, Anson's probably as close as we can get to the source.

It's not hard to believe that Jim wasn't too pleased with Warde suspending him in September over a charge that Jim that disputed.  Probably wasn't thrilled to have us cave to the Big Ten, either.  At that point, who could blame him for wanting to leave?

Anson has maintained that Jim would still be here if Hackett had stayed around, fwiw.

And we won a Big Ten title…

And we won a Big Ten title with him the next year!

Add the rouge to American…

Add the rouge to American football.  It would be awesome and make kickoffs way more interesting.  You could still allow fair catches, but if the kick isn't returnable, it's a point.

And the questions:

And the questions:

Because the state of…

Because the state of Michigan has never had sports success?

I would be surprised, only…

I would be surprised, only because it was clear from the get-go that Shannon/Love were iffy to get admitted the whole time.  There was a good chance that neither would graduate in time to transfer.  Juwan did not get blindsided here.  He gambled on them graduating, with no backup plan, and got burned.

That game was a classic …

That game was a classic "shit happens" kind of thing.  FAU couldn't shoot straight (5-27 from downtown) but still was on the verge of sealing the game at the end of regulation, only to miss the front end of a 1-and-1 when they were up two points.  NW then tied the game and in OT, FAU ran out of gas.

May's coached six NCAA tournament games.  He's won four, lost one in OT and the other by one point.  Not too shabby.

It helps that our new coach…

It helps that our new coach is more willing to get out and sell the program to the general public.

May is already making the rounds.  Here's a nice interview he just did:

You do realize the "Fire…

You do realize the "Fire Bakich!" thing was a shtick?

We have some nutters, but by the standards of a huge sports school, our fanbase is relatively tame.  Spend some time in SEC country - or Ohio - and you see the difference.

The O-Zone is still an…

The O-Zone is still an active board to this day.  That's where the link above comes from.

Fish was better imo than…

Fish was better imo than Izzo, but ended up spending 75% of his career at San Diego State.  If he would have stayed at Michigan, he'd have continued to rack up Final Fours.

Nah - while he is a little…

Nah. While he is a disgusting human being (quite probably a rape enabler), strictly as a basketball coach Izzo has been quite successful, although in recent years he seems to be declining.

Jud, otoh, got lucky with Magic Johnson and was given the job for life - and then didn't win jack the rest of his career.  However, he was probably a much better person than Izzo.

And THEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE…

THEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE OSU:

He'll probably say May was "scared of the pressure at UL" or similar.

I think Northwestern is more into the "transcational" experience.  UK, and Nova, too.

Not sure about Stitt but for several years he was pushing anyone with an offensive philosophy vaguely similar to RichRod's: Tom Herman, Dan Mullen, even Scott Frost for a while.

The bigger obstacle to "some…

Well, "some other coaches" will have to deal, because May just took the job.

I have confidence that May…

I have confidence that May will focus on transfers that can actually get admitted, like Harbaugh.  That tends to work out better.

UM will not make the tourney…

UM will not make the tourney next year, nor the year after that.

Next year is a total rebuild, but beyond that is anyone's guess.  Things change quickly in this sport.  It was only two years ago that we were in the Sweet 16.

We just hired a coach with…

We just hired a coach with Final Four experience.  That doesn't happen all the time.

This time around, everyone knows the cupboard is empty.   We just went 8-24.  There also shouldn't be any question about whether he understands life in the Big Ten, since he went to IU.

As someone who has…

As someone who has criticized Warde ... I tip my cap.  This is bigtime.
