There are signs you should find a safe space.

All that is alleged is that Stalions used third parties (not against the written rule or do we tarnish nationally now from suppositions?) to appear savant like and given a multi year pattern of voluntary fanaticism to be recognized it is likely not widespread in the department.

Sharing video and likely comments of the opponents is what you would do to spread your brilliance and given the multiple public sources per the NCAA itself on this type info whose to say there would be any source knowledge amongst any other coach Stalions may have shared this with.

Meanwhile all this was obtained illegally by a rival funded PI and then also leaked violating the subject of the investigations rights and any illusion of fairness.  Yeah, let's Big Brother some of our Blueblood members to demonstrate sanctity. All this driven by "one bad half"! My vote is it was the darkly stained top half.

Oh goodie!  Another reporters that has figured out if he can put an article together about this stupid saga he can get a bunch of clicks and attention. This thing is so stupid!

I don't think that's what's happening here.

This feels like a coordinated PR smear campaign.  It is not feasible that little bits of information would have come out daily like this.  Yesterday was the most obvious -- the guy is buying Big Ten tickets on Monday and non-Big Ten tickets on Tuesday?  The reporter, or the investigator, didn't think to ask "hey, did they visit Georgia too?" on Monday?

I'm not saying any of it is inaccurate -- I suspect most, or even all, of the things that have been alleged actually happened.  But it's clear to me that the messaging is being strung out for maximum embarrassment.  And the primary reason for that is that the allegations themselves are so weak.

There is very little coordinated about this. In todays age, a small amount of facts can be misconstrued into a scandal, investigation or even a news flash by anyone and everyone. That is exactly what is happening right now and every OSU beat writer is taking advantage tenfold. There are very few facts that have come out. It’s all been he said, she said. Where is the so called video that was promised a few days ago? The more clicks, the more stories!

But these aren't OSU beat writers.  The only one I've seen so far that seemed like true investigative journalism was the exposé from earlier today on Connor Stalions and his Michigan Manifesto.  Everything else looks like somebody taking one nugget of information to a different reporter each day.

Good. Fuck the NCAA, Warde Manuel, Jim Stapleton, Ryan Day, ESPN, the Washington Post, the media at large, and everyone else who isn't a known friend and trusted agent.

This "scandal" is bullshit.

Yes. This is such nonsense.

It really doesn't matter what happens in my mind from here on out. OSU will always be the school that was so afraid of us on the field they had to manufacture a controversy in which literally no material harm was done to anyone. Just to try and avoid playing us. Absolutely craven.

Other schools will blow past sex scandals and pay for play and literally getting players killed and it's a yawn.

We are being crucified for... watching the other team play. You will never convince me that there's something wrong with that.

I thought sign stealing was legal?

Why does everyone keep saying something thats completely legal?

The NCAA.

  • "Off-campus, in-person scouting of future opponents (in the same season) is prohibited.” NCAA Bylaw 11.6.1
  • "Any attempt to record, either through audio or video means, any signals given by an opposing player, coach or other team personnel is prohibited." NCAA Rulebook Rule 1, Section 4, Article 11, Subsection H

The second one is taken out of context, either intentionally or otherwise.  It's Section 4 of Rule 1; the citation is wrong.  And Rule 1 refers to the game on the field.  It doesn't apply to anyone who's not taking part in that game.

That's an incorrect reading of the rulebook. Article 11 deals with "Prohibited Field Equipment", and is not limited to equipment operated by the two teams competing at that specific game. For instance, Subsection D prohibits all drones, not just drones operated by either team currently. There is nothing in the section to suggest that representatives of a 3rd team in the stands would be exempt from Subsection H... especially since they are not allowed to be at the event in the first place, per the NCAA bylaw I previously cited.

1st one you intentionally left out the part of the rule that says by coaching staff or direct associates of the program.

I left it out because it isn't applicable. You are referring to the following "11.6.1.1 Exception -- Same Event at the Same Site. An institutional staff member may scout future opponents also participating in the same event at the same site."

That exemption is for things like March Madness, where multiple events are happening at the same event and site, as it would obviously be hard to tell the players and coaches of the 2nd game of the night that they couldn't watch the first game. This in no way applies to what Michigan was doing, as they were scouting in person future opponents participating in different events at different sites.

2nd one refers to using electronic devices in game by the teams participating. Not non participants.  I can forgive your ignorance on that one.

That's an incorrect reading of the rulebook. Article 11 deals with "Prohibited Field Equipment", and is not limited to equipment operated by the two teams competing at that specific game. For instance, Subsection D prohibits all drones, not just drones operated by either team currently. There is nothing in the section to suggest that representatives of a 3rd team in the stands would be exempt from Subsection H... especially since they are not allowed to be at the event in the first place, per the first NCAA bylaw that we discussed.

Because the actual alleged rule violation - “off-campus in-person scouting by athletics department staff in the same season” isn’t sufficiently click-baity. Also it might not have even happened since it sounds like at least most of this scouting was done by unaffiliated folks who probably don’t count as athletics department staff.

They've been getting advantages for years. They don't deserve them, they often obtain them by going through or around rules, they skirt morality/ethics/decency, and honestly it's hilarious the way these punks have been "rewarded". Tell me something: how's that worked out for them so far? Georgia lost to OSU by 1 point, the same OSU that got a huge ass-beating from Michigan two years in a row. How's Alabama been doing more recently? I look forward to them and their fellow SEC slappies getting to face the most recent Texas teams.

To the relief of many others given "advantages" our dear Athletic Director has largely refused to stand by Coach Harbaugh. Guess what? Harbaugh's got a not-so-secret "Santa" for every Christmas, Ramadan, and Hanukkah for the forseeable future.

MSU hired Mel Tucker for a monstrous contract, team members committed assault against Michigan players and everybody and their mother could only be bothered to talk about that ole tunnel. Did Gemeon Green go for petty revenge? As I remember it he urged people to try and show forgiveness towards the player who assaulted him. Remind me again the last MSU-Michigan score? Remind me of their record this year?

Penn State coach James Franklin made us all misty eyed about how hard it is to deal with the Michigan tunnel. His poor players were forced by their circumstances to throw their sandwiches at Michigan players. I hear Penn State plays Michigan later this year. Let's see how that turns out for them.

Fine. Give them all one more advantage. A bunch of crybabies who minimize what should be taken seriously, maximize "evils" that Mother Teresa would laugh at, and in general reveal who and what they're about.

We've got players, other associated student athletes, and staff members who have shown who and what they're about. They're not perfect but I'm proud of them and what they stand for. And how they stand together.

Let the NCAA continue to be a massive joke. No matter the "repercussions" I'll still enjoy watching Michigan football and laughing my butt off when the NCAA is mentioned.

that may be, but it doesn't necessarily matter if the NCAA and/or B1G think they have solid evidence on which to point to in levying penalties/sanctions.  What troubles me is the conference isn't beholden to the NCAA's protocol of NoA>90 Day response window; but given that they can act independently of the NCAA, as yet they don't appeared to have opened their own investigation, meaning they likely can't/won't act until the NCAA's investigation is complete.

Let's hope the wheels of college football justice turn oh so slowly.

Unless you think that Sherrone Moore is moonlighting as an IT guy, it's as good an explanation as anything else.  I really doubt any "Michigan coach" was "maintaining" a drive, but at least if they mean a Google drive they could just be talking about monitoring an access list.  Even that would be delegated, frankly.
