Unverified: OSU Video Staff Ties to UM Games?

Submitted by Geaux_Blue on November 22nd, 2023 at 6:35 AM

Overnight some items have emerged regarding OSU video and support staff that are nearly 1:1 mirrors of the items used to indict Stalions in the public court of law

https://ibb.co/qj5j96j

In short, a staff member of OSU tied to video production has used “milk” as payment code every week to others, with other questionable code, language, etc.

Users are encouraged to make up their own mind about what’s provided here but the replies and comments capture a significant amount of things aside/beyond the Catapult matter. At minimum it raises questions on why Michigan was in the news nonstop for similar connections while this is solely “message board fodder,” as well as why the BIG/NCAA haven’t sought parity with their own “investigation” based on the same innuendo… unless the only basis was an illegally attained access point to digital storage space.

All the damage from this 'scandal' has already occurred.  Sure, lets call this a smoking gun because its the EXACT SAME THING that outed Stallions.  The difference is that Michigan is already branded as a cheater, and nothing will change that perception.  Winning will barely make a difference (so they didn't cheat this year).  Michigan does not have the, hmmm, what's the word here - cache, moxie, gonads, experience, preparation, knowledge, etc to orchestrate the same type of news story.  Nor does it have the media on its side right now - any attempt by UM (which would be almost comically inept, considering how 'good' we are at this) would be met with derision (already has - remember the facts that OSU and Rutger shared signs with Purdue) and more contempt by the media (everybody does it isn't a defense).

Any penalty out of whatever 'investigation' into this news won't occur for two years, when the NCAA gets around to it.  And by then, it'll be so trivial that nothing will happen (especially since Day's last game against Michigan will be his loss Saturday).

Face it - Michigan has been soundly defeated in this game of public opinion tit-for-tat.  So destroyed that the entire Big Ten wanted premature judgement and got it - easily.  So obliterated that our head coach was kicked off the field for the three biggest games of the year when playoff payments to the B1G are on the line - and people STILL say he could face a full season suspension next year!  So out-maneuvered that 85% of media personalities and shows have already condemned UM publicly, loudly, and without merit.

All this because UM still subscribes to the Canham Method - say nothing and let it pass.  In this case, an active, public defense against the accusations (ie: what they are and what they actually mean) could have helped immensely.  Yeah, hindsight sure helps!  But I don't see UM changing its path, or being good at pointing fingers.

Face the truth - UM lost this story.  The SEC sim that plays in a toilet bowl beat the ever-loving shit out of us in the game of public opinion.  The only thing we have left is to beat the ever-loving shit out of them on the field Saturday.

WIN THE FUCKING GAME.

"Kroll" probably didn't mean anything to most people here; it's the nature of the business that it's not in the public eye. But OSU's working with Chris Day's buddies from local New Hampshire police forces and we've hired the worldwide leader.

I've been looking forward to the bonfire ever since that contract was announced

I haven't necessarily agreed with your angrier posts over the last week, but I think you are 100% spot on here. Michigan got whupped in the court of public opinion, and it simply isn't very effective in that arena. Part of that is that UM as an institution and fanbase is pretty self-righteous, right or wrong, and that has come back to bite them. Self-righteousness itself was part of the Canham Method. A high horse is a great place to be until you fall off (or are knocked off unfairly).

Win the game. Unfortunately, that won't matter much either to the nay-sayers. Right now I'm feeling like this game has an existential meaning to it - win or forever be labelled as cheaters. But even with a win, the damage has been done and it will only subside over a long period of time.

I agree, but can offer a couple reassuring points (hopefully) on the "damage is already done" front.

1) People still bring up Deflategate. In my view, anyone who brings it up sincerely is outing themselves as being clueless about the game of football. And the same will be true here. These people will never know they're wrong, but they don't really matter, either (well, most of them anyway -- the fact that the B1G commish, who obviously matters, got fooled and played so spectacularly is probably the most remarkable aspect of this story).

2) If we end up vacating any wins, anytime someone brings it up you can just call them a nerd. I mean, seriously, who values the abstract decisions of capricious bureaucrats more than the tangible outcomes of elite players dominating their opponents? Nerds, that's who.

This is true, but it doesn't mean there isn't a win to be had. If some of these things can be proven out, it would also likely impact the NCAA investigation. Think of all this stuff really showed true...the ncaa would probably just "peace out" of this whole thing. Yeah...then people would say "see UM always cheats and gets off!!"...but so what?

We will never win the full PR war because we are too far behind...but there is a win to be had if this stuff can be proven.

As fun as it would be for this to actually have merit value on the national stage, it’s pure entertainment for Michigan. It needs a reputable investigative firms to dig into it. May I suggest J.H. Investigations or Hart 2 Hart Investigations? Both out of state, but that hasn’t mattered before!

Well, well, well, please make sure these accusations get to the higher ups to run with them.  We need some Blue Wall agents to get some steam on this stuff.

As a responsible consumer of sports media, this is all hearsay and circumstantial evidence and should probably be tossed aside.  One can reasonably infer that the Stal Bombs Twitter account pushing a lot of these similar narratives is 247 user/faux insider JustWin who has been mostly wrong these last few weeks "reporting" from his sources what was going on with the CS scandal and subsequent fallout. This is all hot air until someone reputable puts their name on their reporting and can provide real evidence.

As a stupid, unreasonable Michigan fan, RYAN DAY WE'RE CALLING YOU OUT BROTHER.  YOU'RE GETTING PERP WALKED OUT OF MICHIGAN STADIUM ON SATURDAY.

I know most on here don't like to wade into the X/Twitter cess pool, but there are currently 2 accounts that are posting what looks to be in depth investigative reporting on this. It's worth throwing on a body condom and jumping in, OK maybe wading in so none of it splashes up into your mouth, and keeping up with what these guys are saying. If true, and a 3-game suspension for Harbaugh was warranted, then Day should be banned from college ball and OSU get turned into an intramural program. Among others, there are allegations that former OSU football employees work for Catapult, which is used by programs for film study, both practice and game film. These employees have been passing along practice and game film for OSU's upcoming opponents to the Buckeyes, which they have also been sharing with upcoming opponents of those opponents. The one mentioned for game film was Maryland, which OSU used then passed on to a future Maryland opponent. Practice film is Penn State.

Of course there are rumors that OSU has Michigan practice film as well.

Those accounts are @MichiganNation2 and @TonnorScalions (sorry, I tried to embed them but it ain't working).

These are allegations the same way that Craig James allegedly killed 5 hookers while at SMU.

Suggesting the FBI actually investigate Craig James based on those allegations is fun satire, something that should be obvious to alumni from a school like Michigan. There is no credibility to the allegation.

On the other hand, investigating that guy Marty Jennety allegedly killed ...

So we’re mad the ncaa isn’t investigating a video staffer having “milk” payments on Sunday? Honestly, this just makes me sad for our fan base. Michigan got hosed, to be sure, but this is now a desperate search for more evidence to prove we got hosed.
Michigan was in the news nonstop because the connections were far more substantial and concrete than these JFK style connections.

The smoke around Michigan started with a completed PI investigation that showed a Michigan staffer purchased tickets under his own damn name. Not "milk" payments between colleagues on the Sundays after Michigan games. Milk is obv code for something. That it's code for 'illegal advanced video scouting of Michigan games' is a massive leap.

Just entertaining the hypothesis here: you think that during an advanced film scouting national scandal, they're publicly paying each other on venmo using a codeword "milk" for advanced scouting rather than just making it private? If you're using the word "probably" when wondering if this is advanced scouting, you're in a strange bubble. I guarantee nobody but a Michigan fan finds this compelling. We're in the land of conspiracy theories. It's sad.

Would this be considered a violation of the in-person scouting rule that M/CS are accused (in the public eye, though not yet by the NCAA) of violating?

seems to me that if CS's friends filming from the bleachers is a violation of the in-person scouting rule, then Catapult personnel giving OSU practice and game film for teams not names OSU is a violation of the same...no?

Why "actual authorities"?  where is the criminal infraction?  would practice footage be considered intellectual property?

seems to me like if this story is true, OSU getting practice and game footage of other teams from Catapult is a violation (or not) of the same rule CS/M are being accused (by the media/public) of breaking.

To late for this crap.  When ABC David Muir and Good Morning America reported that we cheated, everyone else does not matter.  We are the villains, and maybe Americas team because there are so many crazy stupid people in our country.

I'm big on putting my foot in my mouth with assumptions. And paying someone with the tags Canes and Nittany Lions is something my mouth can fit about five feet in.

Are we serious right now? Does anything else need to be said? Who is looking into this more thoroughly??

These are better than much of the reporting we received from "Michigan Insiders" who told us not to worry.  Not this board / Brian & Seth - who were objective of the information; rather, I am talking about those who advertised as being deep insiders of Michigan Football and that there were binders and a tidal wave of counter punches about to be enforced on the BIG 10 & OSU.  Then we waived the white flag.

If those Insiders (Isiah Hole comes to mind) could be so wrong...why cannot theese "Insiders" on Twitter/X be right?
