Sure, but TCU's offense is built on big plays. They hadn't demonstrated an ability to sustain long drives, big plays are their strength. I just don't understand why you would call a defense that plays into their strengths. Especially down 3 with all the momentum.
Just FUCK. this pain is going to a while to fade
December 31st, 2022 at 10:08 PM ^
Yup. Bend but don't break if you give up a fg there it's still only a 6 pts game.
December 31st, 2022 at 8:24 PM ^
Yeah this is the 1 play that could have put Michigan back in the driver's seat
December 31st, 2022 at 10:27 PM ^
That felt like a back breaker after pulling within 3 despite 2 pick 6's and the fumble into the end zone on first and goal from half yd. line. Those 4 plays cost Michigan 28 points and were the difference imho.
December 31st, 2022 at 8:11 PM ^
Minter panicked in this one, and he cost M when they cut it to 41-38 with an insane safety blitz.
December 31st, 2022 at 8:17 PM ^
Felt to me like Minter did panic a bit, not just on that play. I can see trying to mix it up with some blitzes, but after getting burnt on that several times, should have gone back to more base defense ( long before safety blitz at 41-38).
December 31st, 2022 at 8:20 PM ^
Felt like we panicked all game instead of playing fundamentals
December 31st, 2022 at 8:15 PM ^
I guess one positive is that everyone got their cardio in from chasing TCU players all day.
December 31st, 2022 at 8:15 PM ^
When we were down three, D played like we were still down 15, and Johnston ran forever, like we are Ohio State defense or some shit.
After all the complete fucking nonsense, that was the other "difference in the game" play. We have no excuse for that while down only 3 with an unstoppable offense.
As for the rest, everyone go jump in fucking ice water. What a fucking mess.
January 1st, 2023 at 12:18 PM ^
Funny thing about that play is if that's Will Johnson and not Turner in coverage, at the very most it's only a first down. Johnson already is our best cover and tackling corner. Turner for all his speed is lacking in ball skills when comparing the two, and Gemon Green is even worse. I was a little shocked OSU or even TCU didn't try 50/50 balls on Turner and Green. Those guys never turn around for the football.
January 1st, 2023 at 3:05 PM ^
Too harsh. I didn't see Turner or Green getting burnt.
January 1st, 2023 at 4:32 PM ^
Didn't mean this game, was talking about throughout their careers. Green especially, but Turner is also lacking those ball skills that would make him elite with the speed he possesses. There's a reason he'll run like a sub 4.4 40 and still won't be drafted till 4th or 5th round.
December 31st, 2022 at 8:21 PM ^
Is one of the many reasons we lost this game
December 31st, 2022 at 8:21 PM ^
Didn’t show up
December 31st, 2022 at 8:22 PM ^
They spread us out and killed us. Need better athletes up front. That’s recruiting and I don’t know how we fix that.
December 31st, 2022 at 8:22 PM ^
Outside of Turner’s key missed tackle the db’s did fine. The interior like got manhandled all night. Colson had a really good game.
December 31st, 2022 at 8:53 PM ^
Agree. TCU's OL dominated our DL. Our DL got very little pressure on the TCU QB, who seemingly had all day to pick out his receivers.
December 31st, 2022 at 9:22 PM ^
Did he? He got turned the wrong way on the long td that killed us. He was going right while the wr was meshing across left.

DTs got crushed and we couldn't stop their running game consistently. That was the story of the game.
December 31st, 2022 at 8:23 PM ^
Woof
that is all
December 31st, 2022 at 8:26 PM ^
What defense!
December 31st, 2022 at 8:27 PM ^
Poor tackling . That's one thing I miss from Don Brown. Felt like so many times even after contact they'd go for 5 more yards.
December 31st, 2022 at 8:28 PM ^
TCU scored more points in one game versus Michigan than osu has scored in the last two against Michigan
December 31st, 2022 at 8:28 PM ^
This is not on the players.
Yes, JJ there two costly pick 6s
BUT:
1st half: horrible ply calls inside the 5.
2nd half: horrible blitzing on D. We are not a blitzing team and we are doing what OSU did against us. Changed our identity. We are a base D that keeps everything in front of us.
December 31st, 2022 at 8:30 PM ^
I don't think we were as talented on defense as our numbers indicated. We got exposed today. I think we thought we had to gamble when we got down early and it was a huge mistake. We played a Big 12 type game against a Big 12 team and that rarely works out for us.
December 31st, 2022 at 8:31 PM ^
Safe to say Minter was fabulous against OSU, against TCU he brought OSU game plan 41-38 3rd and 7 and he brings an all out blitz too me that was the play of the game
December 31st, 2022 at 8:44 PM ^
He also blitzed from the outside on the long run earlier when Michigan cut it to 21-16. It was bad.

Straight trash. We looked like O$U against us.
December 31st, 2022 at 8:34 PM ^
Minter was trash and the DLINE was man handled by TCU
December 31st, 2022 at 8:34 PM ^
Much like the offense, they are built for controlling teams and playing conservatively. They can’t be Uber aggressive and try to flip a game—- they don’t have the pass rush for that. The offense doing stupid shit meant the defense had to play outside their comfort zone and they got fucking roasted.
Also, they still suck against running QBs and all the NFL centric shit in the world won’t fix that.
December 31st, 2022 at 8:34 PM ^
I won't blame Minter, but I wish we had stuck with the fairly passive defense we had in the first half. Yeah, they moved some, and yeah, they scored some, but ... we were at least forcing them to drive down the field bit by bit. In the second half those chunk plays just ate us up ... and we couldn't stop the run.
But ... hindsight is 20-20. We got the ball back with 50 seconds and a chance to win, and did nothing. TCU outplayed us.
December 31st, 2022 at 8:34 PM ^
Decent game from them until they got blitzy and the wheels totally fell off in the 3rd. That missed tackle by DJ Turner was brutal. You’re down 3 with a ton of momentum and you give up that
D-line really seemed to struggle all game
December 31st, 2022 at 8:35 PM ^
The dreaded mobile QB their Achilles heel again. Looked totally unprepared for the speed and physicality of TCU. I swear they came in thinking it was Rutgers in the first half. By the time they were figuring things out it was too late in the game.
December 31st, 2022 at 8:35 PM ^
To be fair to the defense, on the key 76 yard pass there were 2 blocks downfield before the pass was caught. Both were key to opening up that half of the field. OPI is real and was obvious.
December 31st, 2022 at 8:37 PM ^
And Turner blew a tackle to stop it before the sticks. They had people in position for that route.
December 31st, 2022 at 11:44 PM ^
No way he runs a 4.3 or whatever they claim
he runs
January 2nd, 2023 at 6:51 AM ^
He caught the ball behind the line of scrimmage - which makes the blocks completely legal and not OPI.
December 31st, 2022 at 8:36 PM ^
Weirdest game ever but our coaching helped them pile on every single time
December 31st, 2022 at 8:37 PM ^
Where the fuck were our linebackers ? Coleson stay in AA ?
December 31st, 2022 at 8:37 PM ^
They "only" gave up 37 points to TCU, which ain't great but also isn't totally unexpected. But they missed too many tackles and let TCU do just enough to pull this out. That Johnston TD where they blitzed and then couldn't tackle looms large; get a stop there and UM is driving to take the lead with 7-ish minutes left.
December 31st, 2022 at 8:38 PM ^
Turner can’t tackle. How he thinks he is ready to leave early has baffled me.
December 31st, 2022 at 9:09 PM ^
And didn't disguise the blitz.
December 31st, 2022 at 8:38 PM ^
I wish my girlfriend sucked as good as Minter did today!
December 31st, 2022 at 8:43 PM ^
This defense kept us in the game today. We literally gave away 3 THREE touchdowns at a minimum on offense.
