This will be your thread for quick hits and hot takes about the offense and offensive playcalling.

It was against Rutgers, but the play designs felt more Gattis Speed in Space than Harbaugh Manball. Who knows, it doesn’t change the fact it took 3OT’s for Michigan to beat Rutgers. New coaching is needed.

Why doesn’t Harbaugh understand how modern football works. When you have a quick pass game it allows you to still run inside tackle run plays. Hassan and to a lesser extent Charbonnet were able to run into 6 and 7 man boxes and gain 5+ yards a pop because our pass game was a threat.

I honestly don’t know what Joe brought to the table when we were running the offense we have been running.

I really only have 2 thoughts. One, what would the season be like had Cade been starting and two, I don't care if we lose going forward, we actually have a qb that is worth a shit and run speed in space.

Wouldn't even had been close had Harbaugh went with McNamara to start the game. They would be 3-2 at least had he been the starter from the beginning. What the fuck.

Cade McNamara had 260 yards, 5 total TDs, no turnovers, and runs the offense beautifully, and somehow the coaching staff thought that Milton was the better option to start??? Wtf were they seeing in practice?

For the first time in forever, I felt very comfortable when Cade had the ball. His decision making was on point and decisive and his throws were clean and had the right amount of zip or arc depending on the situation.

I haven’t felt this good about a QB here since late season Jake Ruddocckk.

Jim Harbaugh needs to hire someone who can evaluate talent cause that's not his area....see Cade McNamara!  My god why the hell wasn't this kid the starter from day 1?

Oh and more stupid playcalling let's run into a stacked box in the worse possible times!  Everyone knows what plays we're gonna run including the people watching this stuff on TV!

0 for 3 on the qb runs from the gun in 3 or 4th and short yardage.  Felt like staff was trying to prove they were right about that call.  There were some nice drives with Cade at Qb.

Thank you, Cade.

I thought this game kind of turned out to be like the 67-65 game against Illinois.  Horrible opponent, very much a clown show, missed field goals, OT, the defense giving us the finger but actually coming up to seal the game on the last play.

The main difference being that Denard left that game with an injury and couldn't finish.  Tonight we discovered a QB that....did stuff.  The season is a wash but I despise Penn State and a win over them would make me happy.  Even in a season as horrible as this.

It seems like many of us have all been complaining about forcing this inside run or QB draw when it just isn't there.  Plus when you have a QB that is having a good night like Cade was why not put it into his hands and let him throw for the first down or other.  This "we are going to run up the middle" stuff when it clearly is not there 80% of the time is just nuts to me.

It drove me crazy they didn't do more off tackle or QB options plays with Ben leading the charge.  He is normally a very good blocker and Haskins is talented enough to pick which way to go once the block is made.

I've been saying this every week but Milton has been outright bad since the Minnesota game (he's certainly not the only aspect of the team that's been rough of course).

Brian has been grading him on a curve in the UFR because it confirms his priors. Only need to look at the balls that he deemed catchable this year versus last year.

Runningbacks: Corum and Evans are change of pace, out in the flat style of runningbacks. Think Dobbins or that speedster Clemson had a few years ago.  Haskins and Charbonnet are the between the tackles guys. We are misusing Corum for sure. Gave Evans some speed in space plays. I have no problem using all four, just use them correctly.

I guess what I mean is he was able to be utilized all over the field much like Corum and Evans could be. I dont think we need 4 runningbacks lining up behind Cade, we could use them all in different roles though. Haskins deserves the most carries by far right now. I want to see a full game with Cade and see if the passing offense opens up the holes for the runningbacks more.

I agree about misusing Corum, for sure.  I think we really telegraph Corum's running plays.  At least twice he was joined in the backfield by another back, who motioned out one way, then we handed off to Corum going the other way.  Both times it lost yardage, and both times I knew what the play was when I saw the back in motion presnap.  He ran 4 times for 9 yards, with a long of 9.  That tells me that the majority of his running plays were a win for the defense.  When is the last time we ran a flare screen to him?

I'd also like to see him put in motion from the outside, both to run jet sweeps or orbit motion for flare screens, and also as a decoy for pass plays to tip whether the defense is in man or zone.  If he has a linebacker on him, you have to like that matchup in space, but it also helps the QB with his presnap read.

Looks way different series to series. I think Gattis called most of the game and Jim took over in OT.

Quick passes, Evans 1 on 1 with an lb? Who caller that?

50/50 chance Cade starts next week

At the time McCaffrey left the program the word was that he'd fallen behind both Milton and McNamara.  Seems like that wasn't entirely happy talk.  Milton may well transfer if McNamara continues to look great, esp with McCarthy coming in.  Or he could win the job back if McNamara regresses as Milton did.  Or McNamara could get hurt.  In any event, QBs transfer these days when they don't see a path to starting.  Happens everywhere.  The more important issue is how and why we recruited a McCaffrey, a McNamara and a McCarthy at QB in rapid succession.

We saw McCaffrey and Milton playing some mop-up series.  Both looked good but neither had been a starter.  You could see why they liked Milton in the Minny game.  After that, the line, which already lost 4 of 5 to the pros, lost two more tackles and then the run game and protection went to sh*t, compounded further by an epidemic of drops, penalties, etc. Our defense got exposed putting more pressure on the offense as Milton was losing confidence and it spiraled.  McNamara deserves to start but too soon to write off Milton entirely.

I, and others called for Haskins a long time ago. but can't believe how bad Hokebaugh ruined Milton. Joe...please get the fuck out of this program you are talented but you have no coaches that will tap any of your talent.

Ronnie Bell needs to learn how to break turf tackles

Gattis said he doesnt have a guy who can run the ball 20 times....give it to Haskins and stfu

Milton, thanks for being a team player

Cade came in and changed the dynamic and attitude of this team. Its his job and he should have a long long leash...we know what the backup .

The offensive line played ok but damn you can tell they are beat the F up.
