Question: Will You root for Jim / Jim’s team if he leaves Michigan for the NFL?

Submitted by Late Bluemer on January 7th, 2024 at 10:50 AM

I know at this point it’s a hypothetical question, but it’s something we’ve been discussing in the family.

I am torn but probably will. On the one hand, I would love to see him go back and succeed in the league and take care of unfinished business. He deserves our loyalty for all he has done for the program and he definitely left the program in much better shape than he found it.

On the other hand, no one likes to be jilted so I will also be a little bit salty in that regard.

To some degree in the long run it will depend on how well Michigan does in the aftermath. More B1G titles and CFP appearances will certainly help sooth the pain of losing him.

If he’s coaching the lions yes I’ll root for him.  If he’s not coaching the lions then no I won’t.  If his team is playing in a game where a win will help the lions, then yes I will.  #OnePride roar!

I won't actively root for him, but I will wish him the best. I'm not going to start rooting for his team just because he's coaching them. Forward down the field and all that, you know...

I'm in the same boat although I guess it depends on which team he goes to IF he leaves. I was always hoping that he would eventually find his way to the Lions but, obviously, that won't happen now in the very near future

I believe that the worst situation for UM retaining Jim would be for his brother John winning another Super Bowl and that Baltimore team has a good chance of doing just that. Keep in mind, they rested and didn't play several key players yesterday in a meaningless game against Pittsburgh.

I still think that Jim's Super Bowl loss to his brother a few years back still eats at him and although he loves Michigan, I think - in the back of his mind - that he wants one more shot at a Super Bowl victory which is why he won't shut the door on returning to the NFL.  Hope I'm completely wrong

I’ll hope that he gets a Super Bowl, wherever he goes. Just because it would be painful to lose him and then have him never reach his goal. That would be the worst possible outcome.

I root for most people to achieve their lifelong goals so yes, I'll root for him. If he is ever up against my team I won't, but that's the only exception. I'll also root for him to replace Warde as AD upon his retirement from coaching. Santa seems to be a big enough Harbaugh fan to someday make this a reality if it's what Jim wants to do.

I don’t really care about the NFL. I worked Sundays for 8 years so I became disconnected from it, but I’ll wish him the best. As much as I’d like him to stay, I can understand the pull to the NFL and reaching that Super Bowl Championship that he was so close to winning.

He’d leave here having won 78% of his games. Three Big Ten titles. Three CFP appearances. Reversed the OSU curse. The first 13 win and 14 win seasons in program history. He’d be leaving the program in a much better place than he found it and set up for continued success. So with that being said, I’d wish him the best.

Those sentiments only get multiplied if we win tomorrow night. I couldn’t care less what happens if we win a national championship.

I root for Michigan players/people to succeed in every venue. Having said that, I do not wish them success against the Lions or Michigan (if they coach another team)

Washington football first, Detroit football second. For a long time, Patriots were third, then briefly Tampa.

I never got into the Washington-Baltimore rivalry anyway--mostly being away from the area helped, but also it means more to Baltimore than it does to Washington (or at least used to)--but I am definitely a Ravens supporter specifically because of John Harbaugh.

When Jim was at Stanford, I liked Stanford, and when he went to SF, I liked the Niners and rooted for him over John.

So you can probably guess my answer at this point.

Holy shit, WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON HERE?!? We play for the national championship tomorrow and the board is being littered by shit like this and Stroud wanting to be an actor? Get the fuck out of here, delete this crap.

Not unless he’s coaching the Eagles, no. If he joins an AFC team, I’d consider mildly rooting for them as a secondary team, but that’s all it would be.

If Jim goes, his new team could potentially become my new favorite NFL franchise.

(*Disclaimer: not a huge pro football fan, and if I do have a favorite team it's the Jets. This doesn't constitute a huge sacrifice on my part.)

Yes. I became a Michigan fan and a former 49ers fan after Jed York worked to tank an entire season just to try to justify firing a coach who had done nothing but win. And anyone who’ll feel “jilted” by Harbaugh leaving to pursue his ultimate dream, after achieving the ultimate dream of Michigan fans, is pretty selfish.
