Question: Will You root for Jim / Jim’s team if he leaves Michigan for the NFL?
I know at this point it’s a hypothetical question, but it’s something we’ve been discussing in the family.
I am torn but probably will. On the one hand, I would love to see him go back and succeed in the league and take care of unfinished business. He deserves our loyalty for all he has done for the program and he definitely left the program in much better shape than he found it.
On the other hand, no one likes to be jilted so I will also be a little bit salty in that regard.
To some degree in the long run it will depend on how well Michigan does in the aftermath. More B1G titles and CFP appearances will certainly help sooth the pain of losing him.

Sure, if he comes to work for Dan Campbell.

If he’s coaching the lions yes I’ll root for him. If he’s not coaching the lions then no I won’t. If his team is playing in a game where a win will help the lions, then yes I will. #OnePride roar!

Question for you - do you enjoy being a wet blanket?
January 7th, 2024 at 11:05 AM ^
Spot on. Why worry about hypotheticals you can't control when you can enjoy today?
January 7th, 2024 at 11:40 AM ^
Who said the OP is worried about it? Harbaugh may leave. Thinking about the possibility is just thinking about reality. Those who can’t bear to read anything about him possibly leaving, or can’t just ignore the topic, seem to to be the ones who are worrying.

Yes. You are only jilted if you want to be or accept others definition of your life.
January 7th, 2024 at 10:56 AM ^
I won't actively root for him, but I will wish him the best. I'm not going to start rooting for his team just because he's coaching them. Forward down the field and all that, you know...
January 7th, 2024 at 11:43 AM ^
I'm in the same boat although I guess it depends on which team he goes to IF he leaves. I was always hoping that he would eventually find his way to the Lions but, obviously, that won't happen now in the very near future
I believe that the worst situation for UM retaining Jim would be for his brother John winning another Super Bowl and that Baltimore team has a good chance of doing just that. Keep in mind, they rested and didn't play several key players yesterday in a meaningless game against Pittsburgh.
I still think that Jim's Super Bowl loss to his brother a few years back still eats at him and although he loves Michigan, I think - in the back of his mind - that he wants one more shot at a Super Bowl victory which is why he won't shut the door on returning to the NFL. Hope I'm completely wrong

I would Bolivia this inane hypothetical question.
Message Board needs more points required to post.

Sorry, didn't mean to piss in your Corn Flakes this morning. I'd recommend you stay off The Michigan Insider if this post sets you off. There are several active posts currently on The Victors Club regarding impact on recruiting, potential coaching successors beyond Sherrone, etc.

I find it hard to believe, the day before the national championship, you are really wanting to know if people here would hypothetically root for our coach if they were to let’s say coach the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2025.
January 7th, 2024 at 10:57 AM ^
I’ll hope that he gets a Super Bowl, wherever he goes. Just because it would be painful to lose him and then have him never reach his goal. That would be the worst possible outcome.
January 7th, 2024 at 10:59 AM ^
I'll root for Jim. His team, I can't promise that.
January 7th, 2024 at 1:15 PM ^
Like as long as he doesn't end up at an NFC North team, I'm OK and will root for him and probably his team except if they play the Lions
January 7th, 2024 at 10:59 AM ^
As a Lions fan, I'll keep rooting for the Lions. His new team would probably be my second favorite team.
January 7th, 2024 at 11:02 AM ^
This is the answer. And the Ravens would move to three.
Although any team with JJ or Blake would move up.
January 7th, 2024 at 11:29 AM ^
He takes over the Lions, brings the state of Michigan a Superbowl in 2025, then returns to Ann Arbor to coach until he sundowns. All the coordinators stay on staff. The end.
January 7th, 2024 at 11:00 AM ^
No. I stopped watching NFL, and all other pro sports
January 7th, 2024 at 11:01 AM ^
If he becomes head coach of the Giants...yes.
January 7th, 2024 at 11:01 AM ^
Of course.
January 7th, 2024 at 11:02 AM ^
Ask me a week from now.
Next game up is THEE game, tomorrow evening NRG Stadium, Houston; Michigan vs Washington.
Let's WIN IT ALL! GO BLUE!!
January 7th, 2024 at 11:02 AM ^
I root for most people to achieve their lifelong goals so yes, I'll root for him. If he is ever up against my team I won't, but that's the only exception. I'll also root for him to replace Warde as AD upon his retirement from coaching. Santa seems to be a big enough Harbaugh fan to someday make this a reality if it's what Jim wants to do.
January 7th, 2024 at 11:04 AM ^
I don’t really care about the NFL. I worked Sundays for 8 years so I became disconnected from it, but I’ll wish him the best. As much as I’d like him to stay, I can understand the pull to the NFL and reaching that Super Bowl Championship that he was so close to winning.
He’d leave here having won 78% of his games. Three Big Ten titles. Three CFP appearances. Reversed the OSU curse. The first 13 win and 14 win seasons in program history. He’d be leaving the program in a much better place than he found it and set up for continued success. So with that being said, I’d wish him the best.
Those sentiments only get multiplied if we win tomorrow night. I couldn’t care less what happens if we win a national championship.
January 7th, 2024 at 11:21 AM ^
The first 13 win and 14 win seasons in program history
This narrative bothers me. It’s like saying Brady Hoke (PBUH) was the first to win a night game at Michigan stadium in 100+ years!
January 7th, 2024 at 11:38 AM ^
Why? They're legit accomplishments. Rich Rod could have had a 13-win season, and Hoke could have had a 14-win season.
January 7th, 2024 at 1:01 PM ^
Except multiple coaches could have done it previously. Bo and Fielding Yost had seasons with 13 games. Carr had multiple seasons with 13 games. Rich Rod and Hoke both had those opportunities. It’s not like Harbaugh is the only coach to have an opportunity to win 13 games here.
January 7th, 2024 at 11:04 AM ^
I root for Michigan players/people to succeed in every venue. Having said that, I do not wish them success against the Lions or Michigan (if they coach another team)
January 7th, 2024 at 11:04 AM ^
On the margin, yes, absolutely. But I wouldn't be looking to see when the Chargers play.
January 7th, 2024 at 11:05 AM ^
Why would we talk about this today lol. Post this in a week or two if you really want to
January 7th, 2024 at 11:10 AM ^
Washington football first, Detroit football second. For a long time, Patriots were third, then briefly Tampa.
I never got into the Washington-Baltimore rivalry anyway--mostly being away from the area helped, but also it means more to Baltimore than it does to Washington (or at least used to)--but I am definitely a Ravens supporter specifically because of John Harbaugh.
When Jim was at Stanford, I liked Stanford, and when he went to SF, I liked the Niners and rooted for him over John.
So you can probably guess my answer at this point.
January 7th, 2024 at 11:16 AM ^
Holy shit, WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON HERE?!? We play for the national championship tomorrow and the board is being littered by shit like this and Stroud wanting to be an actor? Get the fuck out of here, delete this crap.
January 7th, 2024 at 11:18 AM ^
Not unless he’s coaching the Eagles, no. If he joins an AFC team, I’d consider mildly rooting for them as a secondary team, but that’s all it would be.
January 7th, 2024 at 11:19 AM ^
If Jim goes, his new team could potentially become my new favorite NFL franchise.
(*Disclaimer: not a huge pro football fan, and if I do have a favorite team it's the Jets. This doesn't constitute a huge sacrifice on my part.)
January 7th, 2024 at 11:20 AM ^
No. I will wish him luck and hold no ill will but I don't watch the NFL unless it's the Super Bowl and even then, it just depends.
January 7th, 2024 at 11:22 AM ^
Yeah, why not. Returned Michigan to greatness and hopefully left the pieces to continue on in place.
January 7th, 2024 at 11:24 AM ^
Not if he is coaching the Bears or the Packers
January 7th, 2024 at 11:25 AM ^
What a shitty topic the day before the national championship game.
you suck
the post is bad and you should feel bad
you sir are a douche
January 7th, 2024 at 11:31 AM ^
Did someone tell you to read it or reply to it?
January 7th, 2024 at 12:06 PM ^
I’m sorry, I did not realize I needed permission to reply to a shitty post.
Since you seem to be in charge, let me know which posts I can and cannot reply to going forward.
January 7th, 2024 at 12:41 PM ^
Did someone place you in charge of policing peoples sentiments toward shitty threads?
January 7th, 2024 at 11:26 AM ^
I wouldn't because I don't care about the NFL.
January 7th, 2024 at 11:27 AM ^
Yes. I became a Michigan fan and a former 49ers fan after Jed York worked to tank an entire season just to try to justify firing a coach who had done nothing but win. And anyone who’ll feel “jilted” by Harbaugh leaving to pursue his ultimate dream, after achieving the ultimate dream of Michigan fans, is pretty selfish.
January 7th, 2024 at 11:29 AM ^
What is wrong with some of you folks?
These posts are obscene.
January 7th, 2024 at 11:29 AM ^
If they win I don't care about anything. He can join the circus.
