MFB: Excellent OL from Mt Pleasant back in play?

Submitted by HarBooYa on April 29th, 2024 at 4:41 PM

OL Andrew Dennis in the portal.  Former MSU commit committed to Illini after Tucker left and it seems that didn't stick.  I actually played HS ball with his Dad way back in the day so know him to be from some good mid-Michigan family stock and I know from his HS Coach he is a good kid/monster (good kind).  Saw him play in high school, a mountain of a kid could be a future starter down the road for sure.   Possibly going back to MSU, but would love this type of Michigan made smash and high quality depth on our O-line.

Yeah, I don’t think he got an offer originally because MSU was on him early and he was kind of a foregone conclusion there until the Tucker phone jacking situation came about.

He is good enough and the player type they’ve recruited in past so  I am sure they’d have interest if there was a chance he’d sign.

I am guessing back to MSU, but hopeful he gets a call from the good guys.

I don't think this is true. Dennis was fairly open throughout his recruitment and seriously considered both Penn State and MSU before signing with Illinois. His academics were also fine. For whatever reason, Michigan just wasn't interested.

Personally, I think it's because he's a bit of a tweener for our system. Not quite tall enough to be an ideal tackle, but he's not a tank either, and Michigan likes its guards to be the kind of guys who can play at 315-320.

Dude, you're the insider, go find out and tell us.

Said he wanted to be closer to home?

There's only a handful of schools closer to home - Mt, Pleasant.

MSU, UM, OSU, IN & ND

Also, said IL had him playing C in spring ball,.

I think he is.  Matt LeFleur was from Mt. P as were a host of other decent players, but mostly 3 stars really coached up because its a college town we typically would get the D1 coaches helping us out.   My coach at the time was CMU's backs and receivers coach (his son was on team too) and he brought in some staffers to help out so I had crazy good coaching at an early age.  But most of the top players in the region I know of play at places like SVSU or MAC at best.  This kid is outside the norm for sure.
