If you're a 4-5 star player and you're in the portal, things haven't gone the way you planned. Either things haven't worked on the field (and you're hoping that a transfer to the right system will solve things) or something's going on off-field (like the coaching situation changed, bad locker room, problem with grades). Every school wants the latter, is OSU going to be their first choice?

At first I gave them the benefit of the doubt, but this is startiing to look like people just wanting out. It's probably the fan base being trash, unable to handle losing. It took us more then a few years to be able to handle it, I can't imagine what those OSU nuts are putting in their dms

Could be. I wouldn't cry over it.

But I used to be quite doom-and-gloom when Michigan would suffer transfers. Most of them were actually understandable, but there were a couple that were startling, and I assumed that it meant the worst about the staff and locker room. And maybe things were bad! 2020 was a rough year and some guys left that the rest of the team didn't seem that sad to see go.

But the doom and gloom turned out to be wrong. Dead wrong.

So I'll wait to see what Day does here. Maybe he's losing a couple guys he doesn't want to lose, but it's also quite possible that he has decided he needs to revamp the team and he's going after it whole hog. Most of the guys that I've seen listed (maybe I've missed a few) have been non-feature guys, and I don't recall them losing critical defensive pieces that they were counting on, and that was the strength of the team last year.

Let's be honest: They're always going to be good, but an offense of McCord and Fleming and Henderson/Trayanum wasn't exactly sending shivers down my spine looking ahead to next year. MHJ was their best player by far, and if they lose him to the draft, they didn't sound like a team ready to light the world on fire. So it's not unreasonable to think that Cryin Ryan thought the same thing and is in the process of aggressively upgrading. Surely, surely, no tampering involved.

But we'll see. Underestimate our biggest rival at our own peril.

The transfers were understandable, but I think it really hurt as far as depth and not enough guys making it to be seniors and juniors like the last couple years. Also there were quite a few guys who left early for the NFL that were very late picks which also hurt.

There didnt seem to be much camaraderie/love of Michigan like we've had the last few years either. It seemed like a lot of guys were iust in their in between step before the NFL... and it kinda seems like that's creeping into OSU's program now.

My gut feeling is that these departures speak volumes about the lack of a positive, strong culture on that team. Seems like there's not a whole lot that any of these portal players want to come back to for another year.

Players can get NIL $$$ lots of places. And for some guys, that's the most important thing they care about. But for the players who want to develop their skill and be a part of a tight, close-knit team family, there are fewer strong options.

Ohio State is going to be attempting the never-before-attempted No Name Offense in 2024.  No one will have heard of a single player on their offense.

I'm sorry but this is just wishful thinking. OSU has been getting Top 5 classes every year for at least 10 years. They have plenty of elite players sitting on the bench waiting to become the next "big thing" in college football next season. You might not know their names right now, but I am pretty sure that several of them will be the darlings of college football next year.

UM's inability to reap Top 10 classes on the backs of their three elite years is going to be a big problem very soon.

NIL was supposed to be the big equalizer for UM according to many around here, but it turned out to make things even worse.

I think the jury is still out on your NIL opinion.  NIL also did things like Quinn Ewers taking a scholarship and a million dollars for one year and then bouncing.  It created top 3 recruiting classes for 3 straight years for Ohio State of essentially mercenaries who don't like it when guys with winged helmets paste them into the turf for 4 straight quarters.

Quarterback to the portal. 2 RBs to draft and 3rd to the portal(assuming He Derain goes to the draft). Top 2 WRs (who probably can’t be replaced in just one year) to the draft. #3 WR to the portal.

Status on Stover? How many starting OL do they lose?

Word from OSU insiders Barton and Nevada Schmuck, if you want to call them that, is that Henderson is staying. Not confirmed but that's what they are talking about on their youtube channel's live chat.

And if you don't know who these two idiots are, they both got banned from OSU for stealing practice footage.

I could maaaybe see it for an RB given the drama around RB compensation in the NFL this season, but even then I’m not sure Henderson would make more than what he’d earn as a second round pick (his current projection) and even then it would be for one year and not a contract. That paired with the risk of injury with his injury history just doesn’t make sense for him to come back. But I said the same thing about Blake Corum last year so who knows.

At best, this is a lot of players fleeing OSU and Ryan Day.

At worst, this is Ryan Day "firing" the team.

Either way, it's not a good look.
