I'll be honest, OSU getting ranked ahead of Michigan is understandable and not too surprising. They have wins against ND and PSU who maybe aren't great, but are better than any of Michigan's wins.
Now them being ranked ahead of Georgia is a little odd, since it seemed impossible for people to rank Georgia anything lower than 1 and even though they've struggled against teams, so has OSU.
October 31st, 2023 at 7:40 PM ^
OSU has beaten better teams than GA at this point in the season. At this point in time, it’s hard to say that OSU’s resume isn’t better.
October 31st, 2023 at 7:44 PM ^
It's a data/computer decision so I get it but they haven't passed the eye test so far. They've eked out wins.
November 1st, 2023 at 9:58 AM ^
Sorry, but PSU and ND are getting way too much love. These are greatly flawed teams. And ND had OSU beaten if not for multiple bone-headed coaching calls and a dropped INT. Does anyone think UM would have been in a dogfight with Duke? That would have looked like the UGA/FL game last weekend.
October 31st, 2023 at 7:57 PM ^
I'll take OSU at #1. They've played the tougher schedule
October 31st, 2023 at 9:37 PM ^
Agree. This is a ranking based on the season so far. Michigan has looked the best, but OSU has the best two wins, and I can't really argue with that.
All Michigan needs to obtain two better wins than Ohio State's is to win. Win out and Michigan will be #1.
And if, as I have stated I believe, Michigan is the best team in the country, they will. If Michigan is not, they won't, but it will be settled on the field.
November 1st, 2023 at 10:07 AM ^
osu didnt cover against Wisconsin, and I wouldnt be surprised if they dont cover at Rutgers either.
October 31st, 2023 at 7:22 PM ^
If today's news is JH signing long-term and OSU starts the CFB process #1, sign me all the way up.
October 31st, 2023 at 7:23 PM ^
This sets up perfect for OSU to drop dramatically, like UT last year
October 31st, 2023 at 7:41 PM ^
OSU positioned well to drop to #4 if M beats them. Could be deja vu all over again.
October 31st, 2023 at 7:57 PM ^
"Day-ja Vu"
Headline in Columbus Dispatch (online) Nov. 25
October 31st, 2023 at 9:06 PM ^
We need for Oregon or Washington to win out, and FSU to win out.
I think we beat OSU worse this year
November 1st, 2023 at 10:01 AM ^
I really doubt we're beating OSU worse this year. We pummeled them, and we are not 22 points better than them. More like 7-10.
November 1st, 2023 at 11:14 AM ^
Bushwood,
M is absolutely 22 points better this year. That, coupled with 18 -23 year olds who are tired of all the "talk" now have even more incentive and determination to bury Day and the players.
I don't see Harbaugh pulling starters as early, no matter the lopsided score. I believe the program is wanting to not only show their superiority, but, now, also want to remind Day why you shouldn't fuck with the bull.
November 1st, 2023 at 5:33 AM ^
If a conference sends two teams this year, two conferences will be left out. I have a hard time seeing that happen again this year. I think the B12 is left out this year and the other four conferences will send a team.
October 31st, 2023 at 7:23 PM ^
NCAA out there trying to convince everyone that OSU is the favorite in the Big Ten instead of Michigan.
If Michigan's remaining games all become a ref show (more than usual), then we know the fix is in...
October 31st, 2023 at 7:26 PM ^
They want them in with 1 loss.
October 31st, 2023 at 7:36 PM ^
Well, I guess Harbaugh's new contract isn't going to pay itself - need that CFP bonus money x2 to help foot the bill!
October 31st, 2023 at 7:23 PM ^
Pete Thamel is (edit: probably) gravely concerned that the CFP did not disqualify Michigan from their rankings.
October 31st, 2023 at 7:36 PM ^
He actually said this or are you just assuming?
October 31st, 2023 at 7:38 PM ^
He isnt the only one that said that.
October 31st, 2023 at 7:43 PM ^
Mr. White, your sarcasm detector is in need of calibration.
October 31st, 2023 at 7:48 PM ^
LOL, sorry. Yeah, he probably did say it but I didn't see it actually. Just a hunch. But that's how believable that was, right?
October 31st, 2023 at 7:43 PM ^
Gravely concerned over a venial sin. Gotcha.
October 31st, 2023 at 11:30 PM ^
Reece Davis seemed really bothered by the fact that the CFP committee did not factor in OBVIOUS CHEATING THAT BENEFITTED A MICHIGAN TEAM THAT WOULD HAVE NO DOUBT DROPPED AT LEAST TWO GAMES THIS YEAR AND OHIO STATE THE PAST TWO SEASONS IF IT WASN'T FOR OBVIOUS CHEATING.
October 31st, 2023 at 7:24 PM ^
I can't say I'm surprised. They have wins - albeit close ones - over PSU and Notre Dame.
Just another chance for our boys to feel slighted and use it as motivation.
November 1st, 2023 at 7:33 AM ^
Penn State wasn’t that close. They tacked on a meaningless TD at the end.
November 1st, 2023 at 7:52 AM ^
They also had a defensive TD nullified by penalty. It was an ugly game for both teams, but ultimately PSU’s offensive deficiencies were greater than OSU’s. OSU can look like garbage for three quarters and then just chuck meatballs at MHJ, which he turns into TDS.
October 31st, 2023 at 7:25 PM ^
That seems fair.
Michigan is the best in the country, but they have to prove it in November.
October 31st, 2023 at 7:27 PM ^
October 31st, 2023 at 8:53 PM ^
Not really, I live in Georgia and my wife is a fan so I watch a good amount of thier games too. They step on thier own dicks a lot and wait for the team they are playing to eventually screw up and they take advantage. Dont screw up and you won't have that problem with them.
October 31st, 2023 at 7:26 PM ^
Now all the buckeye fans who claim ND is a CFP team and PSU who struggled against Indiana and Wku who would win the west and Wiscy who may not win the west….,would all beat Georgia! Lots of ands and a run on sentence. But when in Ohio.
October 31st, 2023 at 7:28 PM ^
And I don’t even need to go over to eleven propaganda to know that they’ve finally got their due….and are tough!
October 31st, 2023 at 7:26 PM ^
Reality is they care who you’ve beaten not how you’ve played. They’ve looked like bad but farted out two quality wins. We have looked impressive while steamrolling dreck. The latter will get you lots of points in predictive metrics but not here. Anyway no one ever thought we were getting in with even one loss against this schedule so it’s all academic.
October 31st, 2023 at 8:58 PM ^
The who you've beaten not how you played only matters for certain teams and OSU is one of them. The committee wouldn't haven't ranked Michigan #1 had they played OSUs schedule and won like they did. But we know OSU would have been #1 winning with margin like Michigan has and coming off a 49-0 win over a rival.
October 31st, 2023 at 9:04 PM ^
Not sure you can make that argument when Georgia, the two time defending national champ and undefeated the past two seasons, just debuted at #2 in the rankings. Unless Georgia isn’t one of those teams?
Edit: not undefeated in 2021. My bad.
October 31st, 2023 at 7:27 PM ^
Great. OSU starting at #1 is a great place for them to still get in with 1 loss.
although I wouldn’t mind seeing them get curb stomped in the playoffs. They really don’t look very good this year
October 31st, 2023 at 7:39 PM ^
Fuck OSU... They will lose to Rutgers this Saturday. And to Michigan.
October 31st, 2023 at 8:24 PM ^
Hahahaha I might actually pass out laughing if that happens.
November 1st, 2023 at 10:23 AM ^
I really hope they're sleeping on Rutgers. They were sleeping on Maryland the first half until Maryland shit themselves with a 17-0 lead.
AN osu should have 2 losses right now.
October 31st, 2023 at 7:27 PM ^
Warde voted Michigan #6
/s (maybe)
October 31st, 2023 at 7:29 PM ^
He doesn’t even watch football.
October 31st, 2023 at 8:52 PM ^
Bullshit. Warde is only at the buffet 90% of the time. You can't tell me he doesn't catch a play here and there.
October 31st, 2023 at 7:32 PM ^
Look at Michigan’s OOC schedule. Who scheduled that!?-Warde
October 31st, 2023 at 7:27 PM ^
OSU is #1? We'll see about that.
October 31st, 2023 at 7:28 PM ^
Yes we will
October 31st, 2023 at 7:28 PM ^
that is funny. OSU does not play like a #1 team.
But if you want UM to have added motivation come late November, this is a good way to do it.
October 31st, 2023 at 7:29 PM ^
Good!
But coach Beard Dye said The World was against osu
October 31st, 2023 at 7:29 PM ^
Itd be real fun to beat #1 OSU 49-0
