If as expected JJ leaves what are the options at QB?
Of all teams Michigan is the best suited to play and win with an inexperienced QB. They did so last year with JJ.
If Orgi is as talented as they say do they roll with him? They only allowed him to throw once in a game, but they did play him in the biggest games. They could construct their offense along the lines of what Bama did with Milroe. With youth at WR and a talented OL and RBs corps this seems like the most plausible option.
Davis Warren is still here. Not sure what happens with him.
Jadyn Davis is a true freshman.I expect him to get snaps.
Michigan raised significant sums for Champions Circle. I suspect that much of that will go to keeping some key pieces like Rod Moore and Trente. That they didn’t go after a center this cycle tells me they are confident in what they have on the roster.
I do expect they will go after CBs and WRs in the portal and maybe a QB if an intriguing one(Milroe?) pops up. I think all of this is coaching invariant. .

I'm all for Orji season
January 13th, 2024 at 10:39 PM ^
Additionally, I’m also for Orji all season.
January 13th, 2024 at 10:45 PM ^
Think of everything Orji/Denegal/Warren have learned under JJ the past couple years. I could see Orji as the starter, he's built to run & take hits. Denegal is a big bodied QB as well, with a good arm.
January 13th, 2024 at 11:06 PM ^
I get Orji is athletic, but he literally has not thrown a downfield pass attempt in his career. I have no clue why people are optimistic about him
January 13th, 2024 at 11:21 PM ^
Because Michigan recruited him?
January 14th, 2024 at 2:44 AM ^
I saw his video where he aired that shit out 80 yards jumping and doing a 360 2 years ago and I was sold
January 14th, 2024 at 5:49 AM ^
People are rightfully optimistic because he is athletically freakish. Cam Newton harnessed it. Joe Milton hasn't yet.
January 14th, 2024 at 1:15 PM ^
Orji looks like a stud to me. Reminds me of the dude at Alabama.
January 13th, 2024 at 9:37 PM ^
I am not expecting so all irrelevant.
January 13th, 2024 at 10:01 PM ^
Prepare to be surprised.
Trevor McCue of Maize and Blue now believes that JJ is gone too. He previously was optimistic that he was staying.
January 13th, 2024 at 11:40 PM ^
WTF SalQ? Let it go. Fine. JJ is probably leaving so you can crow how right you were. Jeez. You really were a Nostradumbass on that one!
January 14th, 2024 at 10:30 AM ^
Yeah well, you're wrong constantly, yet always so confident in your opinions. You don't seem to learn from previous mistakes.
Prepare to be surprised.
January 14th, 2024 at 10:39 AM ^
Who is that? Why should we care what they tweet?
January 13th, 2024 at 9:46 PM ^
Transfer portal.
January 13th, 2024 at 9:46 PM ^
Orji. It’ll be fine.
January 13th, 2024 at 9:47 PM ^
Will Rogers is in the portal again. No clue where he's looking now, or what Michigan is looking for. Doesn't seem like a fit.
In other news, Cam Ward seems to be headed to Miami. Followed the money apparently.
January 13th, 2024 at 9:49 PM ^
If Michigan is looking for an Air Raid QB, then Harbaugh is gone and someone from outside is on his way.
No thanks to both!
January 13th, 2024 at 9:50 PM ^
He’s not very good outside of an all out air raid system. Not a fit at all.
January 13th, 2024 at 10:10 PM ^
will rogers = follies
January 14th, 2024 at 5:30 AM ^
The UM Dept. of Musical Theatre approves this message.
January 14th, 2024 at 8:38 AM ^
never met a team he didn't like.
January 13th, 2024 at 9:48 PM ^
I'm not convinced he's gone, yet. But if so, no way Orji gets all the snaps. There's a reason he hasn't been allowed to throw the ball in two years. We'll get a chance to see Denegal and Warren battle it out (with Tuttle, if he gets another year). Davis will get snaps in each game, similar to the package JJ had in 2021, to bring him along.
I'm sure the room will be okay, but the Spring portal window is there if its needed.
January 13th, 2024 at 10:01 PM ^
I would love to see Orji switch to running back.
Go Blue
January 13th, 2024 at 11:22 PM ^
We're well stocked there.
January 14th, 2024 at 6:52 AM ^
Maybe H-back / TE.
January 13th, 2024 at 10:06 PM ^
They will 100 percent grab a QB from the portal, and I bet they already have a good idea who that is. No way they’d just be winging it here.
January 13th, 2024 at 10:22 PM ^
The problem is that there is no one in the portal.
January 13th, 2024 at 11:11 PM ^
If the starting QB job opens up at the defending national champions, Michigan, I'm sure the coaches will have agent/handlers contacting them.
We'll have options.
Why/how are you so convinced JJ is leaving is the real question? Did I miss something?
January 14th, 2024 at 6:55 AM ^
JJ is announcing today, Sunday, in the morning. If he were staying, I can't imagine why he would have waited until today vs announcing it to a packed crowd at the Crisler Center last night. That place would have exploded. Also, he said "no matter what, Michigan will always be in my heart", which is what you say when you've decided to leave.
January 13th, 2024 at 11:50 PM ^
You need to understand there’s a whole other portal that will open in the spring. And chances are someone will enter that portal expressly because the starting job at Michigan opened up. That’s how it works. These arrangements tend to be prearranged. Which is why everyone knew Riley Leonard would be going to ND the instant he entered the portal.
January 14th, 2024 at 8:29 AM ^
So you're saying there's tampering?
I'm shocked! SHOCKED, I tell you!!!!
January 14th, 2024 at 10:01 AM ^
As long as Harbaugh doesn't buy a burger for the targeted QB, Michigan be fine.
January 13th, 2024 at 10:08 PM ^
It will likely be a full scale battle between Tuttle (if he does get a waiver), Denegal, Orji, Warren, and Davis. There is also the possibility a transfer comes in during spring.
January 14th, 2024 at 8:41 AM ^
Think Tuttle if he gets it, would have the highest floor (though not a high ceiling). His mechanics are sound and he's fairly mobile.
January 13th, 2024 at 10:08 PM ^
I don’t think I’ve seen Orji even attempt a pass, much less take over next year. Denegal threw a touchdown in crunch time so he at least throws the ball. Davis Warren didn’t look real sharp in his time this year. Tuttle looked pretty good until he took that shot out of bounds and never really factored in again. Davis is a true freshman with a predominantly new oline. Your guess is as good as mine if JJ leaves.
January 13th, 2024 at 10:12 PM ^
*shakes fist at Dante Moore*
January 13th, 2024 at 10:18 PM ^
Seemed like the staff was hyping up Denegal in repeated interviews in the playoffs - could definitely be in the competition next year.
January 13th, 2024 at 10:20 PM ^
tough question.
JJ got some reps as a true freshman, but before him, you have to go all the way back to Henne for a true freshman starter. Davis, hopefully, will be ready enough to get some snaps
Warren looked real good in one spring game but seems to have fallen off since. I have no idea what kind of passer Orji is...
We'll find out more on Monday I guess.
January 13th, 2024 at 11:22 PM ^
I don’t remember clearly but none of
-Ryan Mallet
-Tate Forcier
-Denard Robinson
started as true freshmen?
January 13th, 2024 at 11:31 PM ^
Tate did.
Mallett did for a couple games when Henne was injured.
January 14th, 2024 at 5:55 AM ^
Tate had to, but he started off on fire after torching ND. The year prior it was Threet/Sheridan - God we've come a long way.
Henne was pretty solid as a true freshman, but he had Braylon to chuck it up to and Hart to hand it off to.
However, most true freshman starting QB's in the history of college football have struggled mightily and the last thing I want to see under center come September is a true freshman.
January 13th, 2024 at 11:54 PM ^
I believe Harbaugh has indicated that he strongly prefers to not start freshman QBs.
January 14th, 2024 at 7:02 AM ^
And I think Henne got the job because Matt Gutierrez was injured in the fall. Just checked and confirmed it:
Matt Gutierrez was groomed to replace Navarre, but an injury gave Chad Henne an opportunity to start as a true freshman. He never relinquished the starting position and Ryan Mallett was expected to succeed him.

January 14th, 2024 at 7:37 AM ^
I'll never forget that first ga.e in 2004. Everyone in the stadium was expecting Gutierrez to trot out there on the first series to run the offense. Then, Henne runs out instead, and there's 110,000 WTF's from the crowd.
January 14th, 2024 at 7:57 AM ^
I'm nitpicking, but I knew we were starting Henne because I had read it on an early message board (maybe the Victors board), that Guts was injured and Henne was going to start.
January 13th, 2024 at 10:20 PM ^
You made no mention of Denegal, who looked quite good to me. How you left him out of the post seems almost deliberate.
January 13th, 2024 at 10:23 PM ^
He looks like Wilton Speight.
January 13th, 2024 at 10:30 PM ^
How would Speight have done on this year’s team? Pretty good I reckon.
January 13th, 2024 at 10:42 PM ^
Especially if the Hebertization has increased his athletic profile.
January 13th, 2024 at 11:04 PM ^
The same as before. Average.
