If as expected JJ leaves what are the options at QB?

Of all teams Michigan is the best suited to play and win with an inexperienced QB. They did so last year with JJ.

If Orgi is as talented as they say do they roll with him? They only allowed him to throw once in a game, but they did play him in the biggest games. They could construct their offense along the lines of what Bama did with Milroe. With youth at WR and a talented OL and RBs corps this seems like the most plausible option.

Davis Warren is still here. Not sure what happens with him.

Jadyn Davis is a true freshman.I expect him to get snaps.

Michigan raised significant sums for Champions Circle. I suspect that much of that  will go to keeping some key pieces like Rod Moore and Trente. That they didn’t go after a center this cycle tells me they are confident in what they have on the roster.

I do expect they will go after CBs and WRs in the portal and maybe a QB if an intriguing one(Milroe?) pops up. I think all of this is coaching invariant. .

Will Rogers is in the portal again.  No clue where he's looking now, or what Michigan is looking for. Doesn't seem like  a fit.

In other news, Cam Ward seems to be headed to Miami.  Followed the money apparently.

I'm not convinced he's gone, yet.  But if so, no way Orji gets all the snaps.  There's a reason he hasn't been allowed to throw the ball in two years.  We'll get a chance to see Denegal and Warren battle it out (with Tuttle, if he gets another year).  Davis will get snaps in each game, similar to the package JJ had in 2021, to bring him along.

I'm sure the room will be okay, but the Spring portal window is there if its needed.

JJ is announcing today, Sunday, in the morning.  If he were staying, I can't imagine why he would have waited until today vs announcing it to a packed crowd at the Crisler Center last night.  That place would have exploded.  Also, he said "no matter what, Michigan will always be in my heart", which is what you say when you've decided to leave.

You need to understand there’s a whole other portal that will open in the spring. And chances are someone will enter that portal expressly because the starting job at Michigan opened up. That’s how it works. These arrangements tend to be prearranged. Which is why everyone knew Riley Leonard would be going to ND the instant he entered the portal.

It will likely be a full scale battle between Tuttle (if he does get a waiver), Denegal, Orji, Warren, and Davis. There is also the possibility a transfer comes in during spring.

I don’t think I’ve seen Orji even attempt a pass, much less take over next year. Denegal threw a touchdown in crunch time so he at least throws the ball. Davis Warren didn’t look real sharp in his time this year. Tuttle looked pretty good until he took that shot out of bounds and never really factored in again. Davis is a true freshman with a predominantly new oline. Your guess is as good as mine if JJ leaves.

tough question.

JJ got some reps as a true freshman, but before him, you have to go all the way back to Henne for a true freshman starter. Davis, hopefully, will be ready enough to get some snaps

Warren looked real good in one spring game but seems to have fallen off since. I have no idea what kind of passer Orji is...

We'll find out more on Monday I guess.

Tate had to, but he started off on fire after torching ND.  The year prior it was Threet/Sheridan - God we've come a long way.

Henne was pretty solid as a true freshman, but he had Braylon to chuck it up to and Hart to hand it off to.

However, most true freshman starting QB's in the history of college football have struggled mightily and the last thing I want to see under center come September is a true freshman.

And I think Henne got the job because Matt Gutierrez was injured in the fall.  Just checked and confirmed it:

Matt Gutierrez was groomed to replace Navarre, but an injury gave Chad Henne an opportunity to start as a true freshman. He never relinquished the starting position and Ryan Mallett was expected to succeed him.
