On tap:

UNC vs Virginia Tech

NW vs Sparty

Could be some interesting games especially the opener. Also some opponent scouting possibilities for the latter game.

Happy Opening Day Eve

I mean who whoever said Johnson is a one good throw a drive QB with the rest being suck is about right. MSU's secondary looks very leaky to me but it doesn't matter without good QB play.

I dislike Sparty vehemently but I can’t really dislike Tucker. I think he’s good for a program like theirs. He coaches attitude and toughness and they can play that chip on the shoulder card. He’s a good follow up to Dantonio without the obvious prickness

I hope someday to manage as much pointless enthusiasm for something as the NW sound effect guy has for everything. Incomplete pass thrown away- Cat growl. Sack- Cat growl AND tornado siren.

He truly exhibits Harbaugh level enthusiasm unknown to mankind.

Isn’t Northwestern picked to finish at the bottom of the B1G west?  They lost the majority of their best players from last years team and then lost their #1 running back to injury during the summer.

I hate Sparty as much as the rest of you. But your misery doesn’t need to elevate them to Alabama status because of one game.  No need to be THAT envious of the intensity of a team that’s lost a combined 18 games the last three seasons.  This is the equivalent of previous years when we traveled to Maryland.  It’s a lopsided road win over a clearly overmatched conference opponent.  Not the Big Ten title game.

I'm not giving MSU much credit at least on defense, NW's offense is just god awful. MSU is not really doing anything to stop them, there just stopping themselves with boneheaded plays and terrible QB play.

The one thing I’ve noticed with them on offense so far is that they are running disciplined routes and they are blocking well. They look fundamentally sound.

"That's bad play, its frustration"

Yeah, and if the MSU runner doesnt step out its a touchdown.

Glad to see this multimillion dollar enterprise is still entrusting the function of the game to a bunch of geriatric amateurs.

lol, some of you people need to slow your roll on declaring Sparty good this year, NW's offense is just laughably bad. Honestly their offense has never been good under Fitzgerald. And their defense looks slow and very devoid of talent this year on top of that.

NW had to have that. Hope they can get uncorked now in the second half.

Total yards fairly even, NW dominating time of possession. MSU has looked competent to me, but that first play from scrimmage looms very very large right now.

My guess is a little bit a both. NW lost quite a bit of talent and their defense looks pretty lacking there to me. But MSU is executing some things well, so I will give them at least a a little credit. Walker looks like a decent RB potentially. I don't think MSU's QB play or oline hold up against better defenses though.

So I think I like college football too much when I am sitting here watching SDSU and Colorado State. Seems like ages ago that CSU was actually a decent program but then I remember it was about the same time UM actually last won a NC and that makes me sad.

Will remain to be seen just how good MSU is, but Thorne is a nice calm accurate presence, and everyone looks loose and is playing hard. They will not be pushovers.
