CFB: Seven perfect teams - Will any teams fall this weekend?

Submitted by Amazinblu on November 13th, 2023 at 8:22 AM

The penultimate weekend of the season is upon us.  Seven (7) teams have an unblemished record.

Which team(s) will fall from the ranks of the unbeaten this weekend?   Here’s the list – and their opponent.  The unbeatens are bolded with their AP ranking in parentheses.

  • Georgia (1) at Tennessee (21)
  • Michigan (2) at Maryland
  • Ohio State (3) hosting Minnesota
  • Florida State (4) hosting Alabama – this should be a great game.  Oh, my mistake, that’s North Alabama
  • Washington (5) at Oregon State (10)
  • James Madison (18) hosting Appalachian State
  • Liberty (25) hosting UMass

Since inquiring minds want to know – specifically, who else is on the schedule for these teams, here are the above noted unbeatens remaining opponents:

  • Georgia: at Tennessee (21), and at Georgia Tech.
  • Michigan: at Maryland, and Ohio State (3).
  • Ohio State: Minnesota, and at Michigan (2).
  • Florida State: North Alabama, and at Florida.
  • Washington: at Oregon State (10), and Washington State.
  • James Madison: Appalachian State, and at Coastal Carolina.
  • Liberty: UMass, and at UTEP.

Depending how it works out with other teams, I could see the Pac 12 getting two teams in. If Washington goes undefeated in the regular season and loses close to a one loss Oregon in the conference title game.....That's worthy of being included over a 1 loss OSU (whose only good wins would be @ND and PSU) that didn't even make their title game (although they would if they were in a non-division format like the Pac 12). In that case, Washington would have wins over Oregon and Oregon State (better duo than OSU's), plus wins against Utah and USC (two teams that would be undefeated against Big 10 West opponents).

Daniels at LSU is putting up video game numbers, and Harrison jr. is also having quite the season at OSU. Those three, in my opinion, are neck and neck with one another and it’ll come down to whether daniels has two more high yardage, high TD games, or whether Penix leads Washington to an unbeaten pac12 championship, and how well Harrison jr does in the game.

I don't see any conference getting two this time around. Pretty good chance you have 5 conference champs with 1 or less loss. I don't see how you keep out any conference champ with 1 loss and take a runner up with 1 loss.

Ohio State - Michigan is going to be for all the marbles. Same with Alabama-Georgia and Washington-Oregon. Texas has to hope Florida State loses, and would be best served if Alabama beat Georgia.

The Georgia-Tennessee game, at the beginning of the year, looked really intriguing and maybe like a possible loss for Georgia. Was the only true "road game" and truly hostile environment Georgia was going to be in all year. I'm sure the crowd will still be that way at kickoff, but now, the only question is how badly will Tennessee get stuffed into a locker?

That's got a 49-7 beatdown written all over it.

I suppose Washington could stumble and is certainly the most likely one, but I'll bet they eek it out and keep marching along to the Pac 12 title game. I'll bet Oregon gets revenge on them at that point in time.

OSU ain't losing, and Michigan is not, either. Harbaugh or no Harbaugh, we are in full November Maryland right now. Even Josh Gattis throwing the kitchen sink at Michigan will not be enough to stop Michigan from bulldozing this Maryland team into a fine paste. This is going to be a pseudo-Michigan home game, anyway. I'd bet the crowd is easily 50-50

I think Oregon State beats Washington, App. State takes down James Madison and Minnesota beats OSU just because I cannot stand those crying bitches in Columbus, OH.

LOL. Yeah, it's SEC/ACC vacation week. I hope NMST beats Auburn. Only chance I see is Oregon State over Washington. Although they were decent at the beginning of the season, the Washington D has turned "Pac-12" in a hurry.

Most likely to lose: Washington (but still heavily favored-- they're rolling)

Maybe: James Madison, Georgia (but the bloom is well off of Tennessee's rose)

No chance: Michigan, Ohio State, Florida St, Liberty

Washington has been playing with fire for a while now and I think this is the week it will finally burn them. Oregon State beats Washington, everyone else wins.

My current playoff projections (with seeding):

  1. Georgia (13-0)
  2. Michigan (13-0)
  3. Florida State (13-0)
  4. Oregon (12-1)

If everyone wins except Georgia loses close one at Tenn., where do you drop Georgia to?

A one loss Georgia in the middle of the season would still stay in top 4 regardless of undefeated others...but at end of season?

Especially if they then bury Alabama in SEC championship.

I hate HATE HATE the feeling I have... but it appears to me that, right now, Alabama can beat every one of these teams. And probably will beat 3 of them (or 2 of them, one of them twice) before the season ends. I really hope I'm wrong about that but... I have seen this movie before and am already hating it before it ends. Pretty much like any of the last four or five X-Men movies.

Washington is the most likely to lose, but should eke out a win, IMO.

James Madison is going to go unbeaten and the NCAA will still not let them go to a bowl game. I kinda feel for those players and fans. Even though they aren’t cfp worthy, they should still be allowed a NY6 bowl game.

Last week I felt that there was a very good chance 2 teams would fall. The top teams however all prevailed. This week, the only game that I think could be interesting is Washington (who has been playing it close the last few weeks) travelling to Corvallis.

Georgia handles Tennessee and we and OSU trounce our opponents in preparation for ARMAGEDDON III

I am really wondering what will happen in this scenario:

Michigan/OSU go 13-0 B1G Champs. Lock.

Alabama beats UGA in the SEC Championship. Alabama Lock.

What happens if Washington and Florida St go undefeated and are conference champs. Will the committee have the guts to leave out non conference champ and 2x defending champ Georgia? All basic knowledge says it's a no-brainer but will ESecPN have something to say about that?
