Greg Scruggs calling Michigan DL players to inform them of his arrival
Josh Henschke reporting. Was reported he was the likely candidate but this sounds all but official now. Huge to keeping our DL room intact from other programs trying to poach our guys. Great hire as well.
Have confirmed that Greg Scruggs has begun calling Michigan's DL players to inform them of his arrival.

Welcome to the reigning national champs coach. Now go recruit your ass off.
February 13th, 2024 at 3:03 PM ^
First recruiting priority…keep Graham and Grant.
February 13th, 2024 at 3:37 PM ^
Well quite a bit of this may come down to NIL and getting those guys what they need in relation to other teams. If you don't you are just going to have to hope that the risks of learning a new system, etc one year before being drafted outweighs any potential NIL gains in those players minds.

While you cannot always use logic when talking about 18-21 year old "kids", logic would dictate there really isn't any reason for our DT's to transfer:
- They have already won a National Championship
- Both are considered by many to be 1st or 2nd round picks in the 2025 draft
When you boil down why a kid transfer in this new age of NIL, NIL really isn't at the top of the list when you think about it:
- Kids leave because the Coach has left
- Kids leave because they don't get enough playing time
- Kids leave because they want to win a title and don't think they can do that where they are.
Case in point, while we all talk about why Ohio State has been cleaning up in the transfer portal, it really doesn't have to do with money (as the primary reason)
- The kid from Bama left because of a whole new staff and that Bama is probably not going to be favored to win the Natty this year, where as Ohio State has maybe one of the weakest schedules in the Big Ten and returned a lot of guys (more so that Bama)
- The RB from Ole Miss...He wants to play for a winner and no one believes Ole Miss has a chance at a Natty. Also, he's going to get a hell of a lot more exposure on National TV playing for OSU than Ole Miss, so a better chance to impress scouts.
Mason and Grant have accomplished all they need to in college football. Transferring to another school makes no logical sense. The NIL money they would be paid would be of-set by their draft status (Which again, most have them both going in the first 2 rounds of the 2025). Same goes for Will Johnson, why transfer at this point. He has his NIL Money, he has a Title, he is more than likely the top DB taken in the 2025 draft. What would transferring do for him?
February 13th, 2024 at 4:05 PM ^
The RB from Ole' Miss said he was unhappy with his NIL money on the day he entered the portal. I choose to believe that he is one of many examples of OSU outbidding other schools. They're trying their best to buy a title after seeing Michigan win.
February 13th, 2024 at 4:28 PM ^
Funny thing is that OSU doesn't understand that building an all-star team sounds great in theory, until you field 22 divas who can't be humble because they've been huffing their own farts for 4 years.
TAMU learned this the hard way.
February 13th, 2024 at 5:13 PM ^
They have always had an All Star roster without team leadership.
February 14th, 2024 at 7:36 AM ^
hell, the same goes for the hiring of their current head coach

Love how this guy above just divines what each of those transfer guys were thinking. Um, dude, they rarely SAY thy transferred primarily for the money. That SOUNDS BAD. They always say i did it to win, etc.
Finally players who want to win don’t transfer AWAY from Bama. They transfer TO Bama.
That poster has to be a troll because he got everything wrong in a way that puts OSU in the most favorable light
February 13th, 2024 at 4:45 PM ^
Mr Miggle already mentioned the Ole Miss running back, so I'll mention the Bama db. It was said that he was all set to go to Georgia, until Ohio State came through at the last minute with a better offer.
February 13th, 2024 at 5:36 PM ^
But point is he left because of coaching change. Once it’s a bidding war, anyplace is on the table. But kids do generally leave for reasons other than NIL.
February 13th, 2024 at 5:39 PM ^
This is disgusting. We need to keep reminding ourselves that this is disgusting. Just so we don't get so used to it that we start to take it for granted/normalize it. Salary cap, something. . . c'mon.
February 13th, 2024 at 5:59 PM ^
Transferring means to a new system, which has a learning curve and they're performance might drop off.
February 13th, 2024 at 7:05 PM ^
Case in point, while we all talk about why Ohio State has been cleaning up in the transfer portal, it really doesn't have to do with money (as the primary reason)
Case in point, what???
What has OSU done? They've been bullied by Michigan 3 years in a row, despite having greater talent. The quarterback who led them to a one loss season couldn't leave fast enough. Their top remaining receiver went to PSU to catch passes from Drew Allar! Ryan Day is soft. The program was in a tailspin before they opened the purse strings.
It has everything to do with money!

It has everything to do with money.
February 13th, 2024 at 9:27 PM ^
Yes, and (seriously) the new OSU coach in 2025 will have a purported $35 million to spend on linemen.
"Hey dummy, don't spend it all on WRs" is a lot easier fix that "Where's our $35 million"?
February 13th, 2024 at 10:09 PM ^
“He has his NIL Money…What would transferring do for him?”
Give him even more NIL money.
February 13th, 2024 at 11:10 PM ^
Also lots of sweet vehicles at Ricart. “We’re Dealin’”
February 13th, 2024 at 5:03 PM ^
I would think that both Graham, Grant, Moore and Paige are going to receive pretty good NIL money this coming up season being at Michigan.
February 13th, 2024 at 6:00 PM ^
Rayshuan Benny too who I expect to completely explode next year.
Plus he's a former in state top recruit that if I remember correctly was a green lean or commit at one point.
February 13th, 2024 at 4:13 PM ^
Sounds like first calls were to the players already on the team. As it should be for a new member of the staff.
I think what's driving so many coaches away from the college ranks is having to re-recruit the team as vociferously as they recruited them each off season.
I've always been for getting the players paid, but never foresaw this unfettered free agency as a legal right. Why I don't have a law degree I guess 🤷♂️
February 13th, 2024 at 2:22 PM ^
Glad this is more of an official sounding bit of news. From everything I've heard, he's a good get.
February 13th, 2024 at 2:24 PM ^
Hands off, Harbaugh!
February 13th, 2024 at 5:39 PM ^
Well if Henschke is reporting Scruggs to Michigan, chances are Scruggs is going to the Chargers.
February 13th, 2024 at 2:24 PM ^
I wonder what is taking so long to have an official announcement of Wink being the DC? Or did I miss it?
February 13th, 2024 at 2:31 PM ^
A thorough investigation of his tweet history has not been completed yet.
February 13th, 2024 at 2:43 PM ^
Why would they think that is important???

Wink & Schemy linked?
Please no...🫢
February 13th, 2024 at 2:36 PM ^
Sounds like it was background checks.
February 13th, 2024 at 2:48 PM ^
Background checks and then crossing the T’s on the contracts before announcing them. I’d guess after the Schemy incident, they’re going to be a bit more thorough for a while

I like that - "for a while"!
Gawd we've got an enormous amount of confidence in our Athletic Dept!

He can change his name to Einhorn to avoid the embarrassment.
February 13th, 2024 at 2:50 PM ^
This has obviously gone over my head - are you referring to David Einhorn, the hedge fund manager? or Mark Einhorn, the former Blue Jays superstar setup man?
Or perhaps a lesser known Einhorn?
February 13th, 2024 at 2:53 PM ^
Finkle is Einhorn

that's how Moore is still beating OSU.

Hoping Scruggs continues building on the success the DL has realized.
And, having NFL experience is something I value and I hope Greg brings it and is very successful / effective.
Go Blue!
