Of all the sports, football…

Of all the sports, football carries the shortest career length.  I hate the turnover for selfish reasons, but the only good decision of mid/high round draft targets is to go get paid.

Reaching back a little…

Reaching back a little further, and given his forward position, I'd like to see his progression develop into the next Glen Rice.

The major issue with the…

The major issue with the portal is length of the contract.  Right now, everyone is a free agent every year.  I don't blame Jay Wright, John Beilein, or Nick Saban for bailing on this phase of the product.  In the absence of any longer term commitment requirements, why even have a portal at all?

Petco Park has over 80 craft…

Petco Park has over 80 craft beers available.  When I was a season ticket holder (pre COVID) Elysian Space Dust was one of the house taps.  It was a challenge to walk home from the game (uphill) some nights.

Seattle and San Francisco are a dead heat for second best west coast ballpark.  Anaheim is notable for having nothing notable about it.  Dodger stadium suffers from the same disease as Wrigley--too many fans are there to be seen, not to watch baseball.

The two other place that stand out in my mind are Camden Yards, the one that started the better ballpark boom, and walking over the Clemente bridge from a downtown Pittsburgh watering hole to PNC.

The other crazy part is this…

The other crazy part is this was accomplished with the starting rotation only playing 40 minutes in half the games.

It's been a while since we…

It's been a while since we had a cold-blooded shooter on the roster.  "Nick Stauskas but tall" -- Fred Jackson probably.

Was there any depth besides…

Was there any depth besides Samaha?  It feels good to have options in case of a wounded kicker (mentally or physically).

The thought crossed my mind if we deserve Muppets for "We have a men's basketball team".

We have an amazing five-year…

We have an amazing five-year run of successful kicking.  There are so many good things that come from confidence in the kicking game.  This is an outstanding addition to the roster.

The semifinal game will be…

The semifinal game will be televised on B1G Network at 6pm on Thursday, May 2.  Johns Hopkins is the B1G regular season champ and #1 seed in the tournament.  A victory here would be an epic result.

Update:  Michigan won their round of 16 game, and will play Kutztown in the quarterfinals at 6:05pm this evening.  This will be their third match today!

I think intentionally taking…

I think intentionally taking the other side is now known as the Clickbait Corollary.

My first thought:  "OMG,…

My first thought:  "OMG, someone else has a commissioner as stupid as Tiny Tony."

My second thought: "Inconceivable."

I have accumulated enough…

I have accumulated enough peripheral circulation damage that I can no longer attend cold weather events. There is zero nostalgia associated with playing or watching in extreme conditions.   I have bitter memories of being forced to participate in my own permanent impairment by adults with Neanderthal sensibilities.

Question for the board:  is…

Question for the board:  is there really a 13 scholarship limit given the NIL resources potentially available?   It seems like the 85 scholarship limit for FB is toast--same for MBB?

Will anyone even need to…

Will anyone even need to throw a pass against the remnants of this defense?

I'd like to thank you for your bravery and your service in contacting and summarizing the activity in the RCMB cesspool.

The #1 problem with youth…

The #1 problem with youth sports is the adults.

I'll take the under, and…

I'll take the under [edit: meaning lower than 6 seed] , and happily admit my error when I'm wrong.  I expect an up-and-down experience--fastened seatbelts necessary.   I think it will take a late push to make the tournament, but the team at tourney time will be playing 2-3 seed lines higher than their full season record.

A lot of cars you have get…

A lot of cars you have get up close and see the badge to know what make/model it is.  The whale tail isn't one of them.

Or maybe his decision is…

Or maybe his decision is giving the Hawkeye coaching staff the Deacon Blues . . .

He's unlikely to see much…

He's unlikely to see much playing time in year one, but the coaching staff knows what he brings to the gym.  At a minimum Cason will fill a nice role on the practice squad, and will have a chance to improve his game.  Coach feels he has enough talent to give him a chance.  What's not to like about trying to develop a guard with size and handle?

Agreed.  A little too much…

Agreed.  A little too much nostalgia wishing for Sanderson, when the evidence of his impact waned in the last couple years.  He is also at fault for not playing an adult in the incident with the Howards.  I hope he is successful in his next stop, but his time here had passed.

Great article pointing out…

Great article pointing out some skills that translate across sports.  JJ showed amazing spatial awareness getting off several passes before crossing the line of scrimmage.  The similarity to staying onside in hockey isn't an accident.

Mine is a 2006 with the V6-…

Mine is a 2006 with the V6--same generation as yours.  It has been and still is completely reliable, and I don't really "need" a new vehicle.  I added a new head unit for Android Auto, backup camera, and Sirius XM which was enough tech upgrade to make it tolerable to drive today.

I'm thinking about upgrading…

I'm thinking about upgrading my venerable (250K miles) 4Runner with the new iteration of either the Lexus GX550 or the Land Cruiser.  But if I'm honest, the car I really want back is my 1980 911 Targa (sold for a down payment).   Ironically, they would be about the same price today.

Glad to see a mix of 1 year,…

Glad to see a mix of 1 year, 2 year, and 3+ years of eligibility.  It's a nice balance to ensure competitiveness now and continuity going forward.  Not to mention there are multiple options for each role.

I am looking forward to a…

I am looking forward to a watching games where we have more than one ball handler, and have guards with a physical advantage.  Jones looks really, really strong.  Dusty must have liked what he saw in an opponent, and that is a great compliment to the player!

Can we hang a hundred (negs)…

Can we hang a hundred (negs) on this poster and transfer them into oblivion?

I'm guessing the coaching…

I'm guessing the coaching staff knew this was going to be a problem and planned accordingly.

Jones is listed as a 6'5",…

Jones is listed as a 6'5", 190lb shooting guard.  As a junior, made the CUSA all defense team.  Shot 37% from deep for career.  Missed 1/3 of his games senior year with a hamstring injury.  Graduated as the winningest player ever at North Texas.  One year of eligibility left.

Just like football.

Even more dominant than football.

It would be foolish for an…

It would be foolish for an all B1G caliber player to NOT explore their value in the marketplace.

On the live broadcast, Joel…

On the live broadcast, Joel Klatt talked about the need right before it happened.  Mikey made a four point play.

The available NIL resources…

The available NIL resources are essentially acting as a hard salary cap.  In addition being a coach, Dusty May has to be the general manager and assemble a roster with a hard number constraint for total NIL.   I'm not sure I can fully appreciate how difficult the job is under the current rules.

Remember this comment during…

Remember this comment during the 2024 season. I suspect we'll see more games where we win a far-too-close contest with great, consistent defense.

I'm just curious why the NCAA thinks they need to provide additional evidence that they are petty losers.  We get it already.

Correct.  Don't make…

Don't make yesterday's headlines tomorrow's news.  Get it closed and move forward.  Onward.

I agree that much of NFL QB…

I agree that much of NFL QB success is related to the franchise you get drafted/developed by.  It's scary to think that so much of the equation is the luck of the draft match.

The one thing not discussed much is the economics of 4-5 year cost control/cost certainty for a drafted quarterback.  It's an additional factor weighing in favor of drafting a QB early, especially one with high upside.

JJ has the talent/intangibles to make it in the League.  Either NE with their own pick or a team with immediate need will trade up and take him.

One aspect of defenseman…

One aspect of defenseman recruiting and retention not mentioned is size.  Michigan is just not physically big on the back line, and it shows when trying to win d-zone battles in the corners and netfront.  This is both a recruiting and a mix issue, exactly as outlined by Alex.  "Get old and stay old" applies on the blueline, because older players are much stronger.

Alex, thanks for a great season of coverage.

I'm really torn about this…

I'm really torn about this one.  I hate cancel culture and zero tolerance, but Denard had another chance and the precedent has been set with Scruggs.  OTOH, he is part of the Michigan family, and families rally around and support their own with tough love.  I can see a path to atonement (probably a bike or pedestrian path) with an end result that is better than just tossing someone aside.

Interesting.  The NFL…

Interesting.  The NFL analyst must have been watching the same games I did last year.

I'd probably want to…

I'd probably want to understand the back story of the transfers before I reach that conclusion.   There may be acceptable circumstances to welcome him back.  There may be circumstances that scream "hell no".  We don't know key parts of the narrative.  As I've aged, I've given up getting my exercise by jumping to conclusions.

With the draft spread out…

With the draft spread out over multiple days, wouldn't it be better to have an after party?

One more data point that JJ…

One more data point that JJ is wise beyond his years.

What would have been if…

What would have been if Devin Gardner had real coaching?

I will remember this as one…

I will remember this as one of my favorite seasons.  This team had serious issues in the first half of the season, but the effort was always there.  Just when I thought "welp, we are what we are" things began to click and a remarkable stretch of improved play ensued.  It was a pleasure to watch this team always work and be rewarded with the growth in their game.  I salute the players and coaches for blasting through their perceived ceiling and reaching their third consecutive Frozen Four.

The problem with NIL and the…

One problem with NIL and the portal as currently constructed is the contract length is one season.  It is set up so anyone with perceived "value" should enter the portal every year and shop for the best deal for their circumstance.  In general, I don't have a problem with the athletes getting the best deal for themselves, but at least the pros have a longer contract period to reduce the volatility.
