M was in his top group for quite a while.  He and Enow Etta were seriously considering both M and MSU in that class.

Jobe was one of the kids that was swayed by the trendy NFL pass-rush guru that Mel hired as an analyst - Brandon Jordan - aka the guy that Rashan Gary and many other NFL players trained with in the offseason.  (He left MSU for the Seahawks before last year and is now on the OSU staff as an analyst as he was not retained by McDonald)

FWIW - The second ranked player in Jobe’s MSU class was also a DE that M was in on early …..Andrew DePape… It appears Andrew also chose MSU due to Jordan, and he also entered the portal this week.

I was playing football in HS at the time about an hour away from MSU at the time, and even in my small little town team, everyone knew Mandarich was on the roids and heard of his roid rage exploits from my sister who was in school at the time with him.  Compared to Scott Skiles cocaine stories, MSU wrs shooting themselves in the foot and Lorenzo White driving around in a like a pimp outfit for his Heisman candidate season, Mando was near the top of MSU a very competitive Hall of Fame story boards for our Spartan friends pre-2000.

I haven’t heard a whisper about this guy being a problem or anything other than an awesome prospect. He’s reportedly pretty active in the community, and IIRC redshirted last year after injury, so it wasn’t a skill issue.

If he’s healthy and his grades are in good shape, we should get him on campus ASAP.

[btw, rumor is that MSU insiders were surprised he entered the portal]

Meanwhile over at RCMB in the post announcing his departure

"Too skinny to play in the B1G"

"No loss"

"Addition by subtraction"

"New staff gave him an honest evaluation"

And someone created a thread entitled "The transfer portal has helped MSU" which is going exactly as you think it would.

The callousness of people who write off a highly rated recruit after a redshirt freshman season in which he played in 1 game (IIRC) and then got injured…after being a basketball player for most of his life…is a level of copium from Sparty that I wish I was surprised about
