This is 100% true.  It was…

This is 100% true.  It was an ex parte tro so an appearance by opposing counsel had zero effect.  The Judge didn't rule on it bc she wasn't going to grant it and probably thought that actually issuing a written order denying it would garner a bunch of unwanted attention towards her court.

I actually think that the…

I actually think that the lawsuit may have been filed, in large part, in an attempt to negotiate a lesser suspension.

Not true.

Not true.

Yeah, I am not sure what…

Yeah, I am not sure what exactly the standard is and how much 1 and 2 would be weighed.  Either way, I think that the team is ready with or without Harbaugh.

I don't think this will be…

I don't think this will be granted.  I'm not 100% certain what the standard is but I would imagine that Michigan would need to show (1) substantial likelihood of injury and (2) substantial likelihood of success on the merits after a final hearing. The injury is obviously there, but I don't think that M can show a substantial likelihood of success on the merits after a final hearing.  Maybe M will prevail after a final hearing, but at this point, can they show substantial likelihood that they would?

I may be wrong on the standard though.

Five games.  What a joke. …

Five games.  What a joke.  He was the aggressor in every way.  He didn't "need to protect" himself from anything.  When the Wisconsin coach put his hand up, only a total Michigan homer would think that it was aggressive.  No reasonable person would have felt threatened.  Juwan is the one who made it physical.

Isn't it a safety concern to not have windows?  What if there was a fire?

I am not defending the drunk…

I am not defending the drunk driver.  However, I believe that the Rav4 was likely an electric hybrid and that the electric component/battery factored into the fire.  It is irrelevant to a criminal prosecution, but if true, it is relevant to know as a consumer.  I think that there will a massive influx in product liability lawsuits against electric car companies.

I have no respect for this…

I have no respect for this bum.

I don't think that his pro career was hall of fame worthy.  He was an all star, but not a hall of fame.  Shawn Kemp was more dominant than Chris Webber.

Above all else, this scum bag committed perjury to a federal grand jury.  Why would you believe a single word this fool ever says?  He has an inflated sense of ego and believes that he can smile and lie his way out of anything.  In reality, he is not smart and just tries to get by on image.  He is deplorable.

Very sad.

I do get a kick…

Very sad.

I do get a kick out of Lions fans though.  I remember back in the days of Erik Kramer, Herman Moore, Barry Sanders, Wayne Fontes, etc.  Ya'll thought you had it so bad...

You were actually perennially playoff contenders.

In gymnastics, it seems that…

In gymnastics, it seems that a gymnast could be seriously maimed if they are not 100% (physically and mentally).  If she had a mental roadblock which prevented her from safely executing a move, then bowing out is the right move.

Matts El Rancho is good, but surely not the best Mexican in the capital of Texas!

Like you, I haven't had Pancheros in 20+ years, but can guarantee that it is garbage and I pity the fool that thinks that is good Mexican.

You are a fool.  Whataburger…

You are a fool.  Whataburger is hands down the best.

If you can only pick four,…

If you can only pick four, then I don't see how anyone could possibly pick anyone other than the four that OP picked:  Howe, Cobb, Sanders, and Thomas.  The only room for debate wlild be if Joe Louis were to be added (and in whose place).  IMHO, if he is added, it would be in place of Thomas.

I am an out of stater.  Michigan has taken an extremely aggressive approach.  To me, it doesn't seem like it has paid off and to top it off, I think that Michigan businesses have been crippled moreso than in other states that were less aggressive.

OU is still making the playoffs though.  And Texas is always hanging with them.

Are you kidding me?  And…

Are you kidding me?  And even if you want to say that OSU is in a different echelon than OU, the bottom line is that Texas is in a far, far better position than UM.  I live in Austin and get a kick out of Longhorn fans that think that Texas is bad.  If they only knew what it was like to be bad...

Horrible move!!  I believe…

Horrible move!!  I believe that all of Texas's 3 losses were very close games.  They were in much better shape than Michigan.

Why does it matter that he…

Why does it matter that he was paid in bitcoin?  People are acting like this was so revolutionary.  Couldn't he have just gotten paid in cash and then converted it into bitcoin?

And I don't think that Aaron Rodgers has a kid either.

I think it is a good hire.

I think it is a good hire.

I will say this though--and I would like to hear other people's opinions:  in actuality, how important is the manager to a team's success?  I don't think that there are that many games that come down to "X's and O's" like in football or basketball.  I think it is the GM putting together a good group of players and then the players executing.  Sure, there are some judgment calls that need to be made by the manager (changing pitchers, stealing bases, etc.), but I have always thought that these strategy moves are usually overrated and don't have as large an affect on the outcome as people would like to believe.  Also (and maybe I am even contradicting myself here), but lot of baseball strategy moves comes down to analytics, so no matter who the manager is, the same "call" is likely to be made.

Am I wrong?

Re: the attorney comment. …

Re: the attorney comment.  Some attorneys are better than others.  Public defenders don't make much.  Experienced attorneys have financial incentive to go into private practice for many reasons rather than being public defenders.   One of those reasons is the very real need to provide for their own families.

I am very sorry, but not everyone is going to be able to have very best attorney.  For those that can afford a private attorney, not all will be able to hire the best due to financial reasons.  For those that rely on public defenders, I am sorry, but we cannot force more experienced attorneys into indentured servitude to become public defenders.

If you truly have an issue with this, then I suggest making a very generous donation to a public defenders office or a pro bono service.

I agree.  I think that HIPAA only applies to "covered entities", which, I believe, are basically only medical providers.

I didn't read the article so I don't know who these players are.  However, assuming that they would be starting caliber NFL players and can secure a long term contract, good luck making that kind of money over the course of your career in any other field.  Education can actually usually be put on hold and resumed later on.  The opportunity to have a chance to make hundreds of million of dollars?  Probably not so much.

You said that you already have an employment lawyer.  You should be getting his advice on this.

I think that the current…

I think that the current standard is probably appropriate, but there are issues of fact in all of these situations.  If you believe the cops version of facts, then the cop will be justified when the standard is applied.  If you believe the arrestee's version of facts, then the cop will not be justified when the standard is applied.  I think that the legal standard is in the cops favor for public policy reasons.

I think that more body cams are the only answer.  Or maybe an independent 3rd party monitor that rides along with the police.  However, neutrality might be tough to ensure, either way.

Police also need to be able…

Police also need to be able to protect themselves when it is appropriate from an objective and subjective standpoint.  I think that is separate than due process--and definitely different than "punishment."  If the use of force was justified, subjectively and objectively, then due process was not deprived.  If it wasn't justified, then there is a due process issue.

Yes, you are correct.  A large portion of the public cannot comprehend this.  I agree with Hannibal.

I am not 100% the legal…

I am not 100% sure what the legal standard is for excessive force.  I would think that if a police officer both objectively and subjectively feels a threat to life or limb, then the use of deadly force is probably justified from a legal standpoint.  If he actually was reaching for a gun in close quarters after being tased, then I think it would be a justified shooting by the cop...open and closed.
