The difference between Nussmeier and Sarkisian is night and day.  Nussmeier was conservative and lacked any kind of innovation. His philosophy was we have the best Oline in football we are going to get 4 years a carry. The fan-base couldn't have been happier to see him leave. If you don't move forward you'll get left behind.

Sark was the opposite. Bama is Bama and will be fine but the fan base is sorry to see him going. Unlike Nuss he is cerebral and innovative and adjusts his schemes to the players talents. Mac Jones is a Heisman candidate.  Nussmeier  took Heisman caliber qbs and made them game mangers.

Every OC at Alabama has a stable of 5* and it’s a job you have really put effort into if you want to fail.  The Alabama OC job is you show up and can do just about nothing and you win coordinator of the year. Look at every OC at Bama and you see them get a big job after and then fail.  Bama is also the place for failed coaches like Kiffen and Sark to brush off all the stink of their previous records.

I'm willing to give him a pass on the alcohol assuming he's in recovery, the failing as a HC every time he's tried...not so much.  He should have to prove himself as a HC at a mid major or a smaller P5 before I'd be willing to give him the gig at a blue blood.

The guy has accumulated enough wealth to retire and live comfortably for the rest of his life. Why would you feel sorry for him? Giving people second chances is one thing, investing millions of dollars in an alcoholic to be the leader of young men. . .not a wise investment. I hope no one hires Zach Smith for the same reason.

You clearly have never had alcoholism in your immediate family.  It isn’t something that you just “get over”. You have to forever be intentional about going to your meetings, not putting yourself in situations where alcohol is a focus, etc.

I’ve had more than one alcoholic in my family and my longterm girlfriend is a licensed therapist who specializes in working with addicts.  Her prior fiancé (before she got into that specialty) was a closet drunk that drank mouthwash to avoid detection.

I hope Sark is forever good, but statistics show there’s a high chance that he will slip. And if he does it’ll be egg on the face of a proud university and alumni base. Texas fans are pissed right now.

To be fair, having a DUI is a little different than being drunk on the job in the eyes of any potential employers. The problem with Sark isn’t that he struggled with alcoholism, it’s that he allowed it to carry over into his job as a head coach. Drunk while coaching and missing practices because you’re drunk isn’t a good look for a head coach.

Your employer could overlook you having a DUI (as long as your job doesn’t involve driving). They could overlook you drinking on nights and weekends. Showing up to work drunk or not showing up at all because you’re drunk is not something that would be overlooked, or should be overlooked for that matter. Tell any prospective employer that you were drunk on the job and you’re pretty much guaranteed to not get the job.

That’s a big black mark on anyone’s resume. Much less a guy with subpar results as a head coach. I commend him if he’s getting the help he needs and is doing well in his recovery. But that’s still not the kind of person I would want to coach my team.

You’d be surprised how many people work drunk because they are dependent on alcohol and simply can’t function when they start to withdraw.  Sark wasn’t coaching drunk because he wanted to party and just didn’t give a shit, he probably couldn’t function without some degree of alcohol in his system.  Yes it’s a black mark, that’s why he got fired.  But if he’s able to prove his ongoing sobriety for years, has obviously shown his commitment to staying sober and understands the severe consequences, it seems like he should have the opportunity at another job.  If Texas wants him to take a breathalyzer anytime he gets on campus, then this would be well within their right to demand contractually.

He has the most prolific offense in the country.

Texas will be better than Michigan, faster than Michigan.  Again other schools care more about football than Michigan.  They fired a coach who went 4-0 in bowl games and was 7-3 this season.  And our ridiculous AD offers an extensionto a coach who is 1-4 in bowls and went 2-4 this season i. A weak ass B1G

You mean known alcoholic Sark? The same Sark who allegedly coached an entire game against Arizona State while piss drunk? The one who lost a $30 million wrongful termination lawsuit against USC after it was discovered that he had also had numerous other alcohol-related incidents while at Washington and USC? That same Sark?

Ah yes, the guy with a bad history of being a drunk WHILE COACHING at his previous two stops and a mediocre record at two good programs.

Weird how you’ve been critical of Matt Campbell recently, yet you want a much less impressive head coach (doing less than Campbell while being at better programs) with an added drinking problem.

All I’m going to say is, NFL teams have given guys like Adam Gase multiple chances. Josh McDaniels continues to be a hot coaching name. Gruden got a monster deal after not coaching in any capacity in 10 years.

Regardless of what Harbaugh has done at Michigan, with his success in the NFL there are going to be teams willing to give him a chance. It’s simply a matter of whether Jim wants to take those jobs or not.

Black Monday was always the timeline where we would start to hear SOMETHING on the Jim Harbaugh front. We’ll know which NFL jobs are open and which coaches are being linked with them.
