Eight Nebraska Players Sue B1G for Postponing Season
The lawsuit "does not seek damages greater than $75,000 but states that the Big Ten's postponement hurts the players' future football prospects and their ability to market and brand themselves"

Insert Scott Frost's mom joke here
August 27th, 2020 at 2:50 PM ^
I’m not doing any kind of inserting involving Scott Frost’s mom.
August 27th, 2020 at 3:37 PM ^
"Daddy, where does Scott Frost come from?"
"Well honey, when a silo and a tractor love each other very much..."
August 28th, 2020 at 10:15 AM ^
"Yeah, Yeah, sockets!!"
August 27th, 2020 at 2:48 PM ^
Good for them. Although, since they play for Nebraska, their "future football prospects" were probably already limited. The best they could hope for was to outhit the other team.
August 27th, 2020 at 3:29 PM ^
And corn
August 27th, 2020 at 5:23 PM ^
Aside from being selfish and stupid, the suit has zero legal merit. The league is fully within its rights to cancel games due to health risks; in fact, its lawyers probably recommended this approach.

Motion for sanctions

Some Cornhuskers are suing the B1G?
Wow, I haven't heard any rumors on this, but I'll keep an ear out.
This lawsuit is weak. Doesn't have a kernel of truth in it.
There's no way they win. They are going to get creamed.
I bet the B1G responds, "Aw, shucks. We'll change our mind."
Sorry for the....corny puns....
August 27th, 2020 at 2:54 PM ^
You hogged all of them, ya effin' Bogart!
August 27th, 2020 at 3:05 PM ^
You can always stalk him, but be careful as if he finds out you will be canned.
August 27th, 2020 at 3:24 PM ^
Shucks...
August 27th, 2020 at 3:11 PM ^
I wasn't really digesting those jokes until you mentioned it at the end
August 27th, 2020 at 6:29 PM ^
I'm sure you have gotten an earful by now.
August 27th, 2020 at 3:35 PM ^
Rumors of the lawsuit were knee high by July, now they're full blown
August 27th, 2020 at 4:07 PM ^
This is an aMAIZEing post!
August 27th, 2020 at 5:34 PM ^
did you hear those jokes at the Holiday Inn meet and greet during the NAMBLA convention?

August 27th, 2020 at 6:08 PM ^
SWEET! I guess the players were hoping to go to the rows bowl before they moved their tassels from one side of the cap to the other? If this goes to trial, will they first hold an 'earing? The conference better do more than just cobble together a defense...
August 27th, 2020 at 2:49 PM ^
And the winners are... The lawyers!
August 27th, 2020 at 2:50 PM ^
you know what else hurts your future football prospects? death.
August 27th, 2020 at 2:57 PM ^
Well, someone was going to do it. Not sure that Nebraska players were the best lot to do so, given potential future earnings from football. But they have as much right to belief in that earnings potential as anyone else...
Good luck to them? I don't wish them bad luck.
August 27th, 2020 at 2:57 PM ^
Oops. I doubled my pleasure. So where are the Doublemint Twins?
August 27th, 2020 at 4:45 PM ^
Thank you. I hadn't thought of this in years.
August 27th, 2020 at 3:03 PM ^
We've already watched Scott Frost's team play the last two years, and let me tell you buddy, the games they played certainly didn't help their future football prospects or their ability to market themselves. Hell, I'm not sure Adrian Martinez throwing a football is legal in any other state than Nebraska
August 27th, 2020 at 3:04 PM ^
This Onion article is becoming more and more real. Some say that the Onion is satire, but I disagree.
August 27th, 2020 at 3:05 PM ^
Can they sue their teammates and coaches as well?? ....missing the exposure of a a bowl for 2 straight years can't help the future earnings prospects either.
August 27th, 2020 at 3:11 PM ^
It appears to be the same logic about third-party beneficiaries covered in a UV some time ago that was, legally, somewhat dubious. It is telling that this appears to be a state court filing (notice the under $75k total, which is the lower bar for getting a case into Fed), even though the conference is multi-state and you'd assume would be federal in nature.
Anyway, it's their right to sue and for their lawyer to push them to do it. I'm not sold said lawyer really cares all that much about them, but that doesn't mean they shouldn't seek a remedy for their grievance.
August 27th, 2020 at 3:59 PM ^
And if they win, they'll already have an attorney on retainer to handle their next lawsuit alleging gross negligence for not being protected from covid. Makes sense. Just a normally functioning legal system.

Billable hours remain undefeated.
August 27th, 2020 at 7:02 PM ^
I haven’t read the complaint yet. Is there an argument that these players aren’t domiciled in Nebraska? Also, I haven’t researched this before, but I wonder if there’s a way to allege something similar to fraudulent joinder in the amount of damages they’re seeking. That is, how can you plausibly claim less than 75K in damages. Otherwise, all you’d ask for is an injunction. You shouldn’t be allowed to say I’m alleging damages under 75K and and then get to seek more at trial. Or at least whatever you prove up and the jury awards should be reduced.
August 27th, 2020 at 3:28 PM ^
Stupid stupid stupid.
August 27th, 2020 at 3:28 PM ^
Win or lose.... you can bet they'll 'out-sue' the opponent.
August 27th, 2020 at 3:31 PM ^
I'm countersuing for civil theft... of the 1997 National Championship (coaches poll) trophy.
August 27th, 2020 at 4:36 PM ^
It was a (retirement) gift to Tom Osborne from the coaches. Not sure if there is any legal merit here.
August 27th, 2020 at 5:15 PM ^
Exactly the same amount of legal merit as the Nebraska players' lawsuit!
August 27th, 2020 at 3:42 PM ^
Pissing in the wind.
August 27th, 2020 at 4:30 PM ^
So if a player gets benched by a coach, can they also sue for damage to their "future football prospects and their ability to market and brand themselves"? The cause may be different, but the effect is the same.
August 27th, 2020 at 4:31 PM ^
Apparently they really, really want to get ass blasted again by most of the B1G
August 27th, 2020 at 5:06 PM ^
"really want to get ass blasted again" ...I believe they could accomplish that goal off the field, perhaps in the comfort of their own home or dorm... or possibly behind a convenience store dumpster in Omaha
August 27th, 2020 at 4:31 PM ^
Lol. Damned if you do, damned if you don’t.
August 27th, 2020 at 5:01 PM ^
Ah yes, amateurism is still alive at Power 5 schools.

Eight Nebraska Players Sue B1G... hence supporting the theory that in addition to covid, 'futile gestures' are also highly contagious
August 27th, 2020 at 5:04 PM ^
I just read the lawsuit actually as soon as the first articles dropped.
I would put their chances at nearly zero, but hey...good luck to them all the same.
August 27th, 2020 at 9:52 PM ^
You mean about the same chances of winning in court as on court?
August 27th, 2020 at 5:30 PM ^
So on brand for Nebraska football. Use your college education to sue someone who is trying to save your life because footbaw! Way to show what's really important to the UNL community.
August 27th, 2020 at 7:21 PM ^
LOL, that's what they're trying to save, lol, and meanwhile letting his own son play. C'mon bro, come back to reality.
