No, people are clamoring for Howard to be fired because it’s clear after year 5 that he is in over his head. His teams don’t have the basics of fundamentals down. If Sherrone’s teams start getting penalties on the field and have major lapses on offense and defense then he will need to be fired for that if we are losing games. Everyone needs to stop comparing Moore to Howard, at least unless it becomes applicable.

Increasing NIL for the existing roster including roster retention should be the goal.

We don't have to pay to play.

Whats wrong with saying both?

Warde’s milk toast approach to everything exudes buffoonery.

We need dynamic leadership and Warde just doesn’t seem to cut it.

Hardly or barely.

He said they will continue NIL but not move towards pay to play.

And the mention of the current NIL programs came off as almost an afterthought.

It would be nice to hear we are aggressively pursuing programs for NIL and aggressively working to grow our existing programs.

Warde gives off a spectator vibe not a leadership vibe.

And I may be jaded from discussions I have had regarding Warde, Harbaugh, and Stapleton.

A NC every 30 years is cool I guess

imagine being able to recruit top talent who can play almost instantly AND developing under recruited players?

It has worked pretty well.  They have handled the entire BIG except us the last three years.  They were only one play away from beating us at home this year.  Day is weak, and unable to adjust is why we won, but there is a reason there record is good.  I don't suggest we become OSU but we need to attract top talent.

It’s actually worked very well for them. They are always in contention, almost always, will be in the playoffs from now on, and will legitimately have a shot every year because of the roster. Yes, you might catch lightning in a bottle once every so often, but your odds are much better with top players. People seem to overlook the fact that sone of the most important players on our team this year were all 5 stars, including our QB

An aside on this topic.. figures have been tossed around about what the squad in Columbus is spending to put their team together.  A figure often noted is $13M.   A few years ago, Day told boosters he’d need an additional $13M just to keep that team (a few years ago).

The figure I’ve heard for their ‘24 team is $35M.   What have you heard?

Revenue sharing.  Michigan makes/made a lot of money off the backs of these players and we could quickly be an afterthought like the basketball program.

I'm not as big on CFB anyways as I once was, so thanks for the championship 144!

You don't have to change the main approach, but if he doesn't realize at least some up front money is necessary to even swim in the waters with most top 100 guys, then he needs to be canned even more than he needed to be canned before. We have a new, energetic, young coach after a Natty and Warde seems keen on not trying to seize this momentum

Make sure it's public that we're irrelevant in nil. Moore says we're gonna be out front. Warde says.... C'mon now, you know we're not going to do anything differently until we're 10 years behind.

Investing in "recruiting" means very little in this day and age if you're not paying up front.

Using NIL as an inducement--handing a kid a check or a car and saying "Come to my school"--is illegal. Considering the Michigan has been penalized for buying cheeseburgers and Zoom calls at the wrong time and (gasp!) too much stretching, this is a sensible policy to maintain. Michigan will get the death penalty for shit Georgia and OSU skate for. God forbid, one of our recruits shows up to signing day in a Lambo. The NCAA would spend ten years building that ship from The Creator just to tactically nuke the entire athletic department.

Well, I am sure that many here will be angry and disappointed to learn that, and some are likely looking to burn him in effigy, but I, for one, happen to agree.

I have loved college football for multiple decades and it's just different from professional football. That's available for those who want it.

I have no problem with the spirit of NIL, but basically bidding for and paying college players is not that.

We aren't going to pay high school kids to visit, verbally commit, no visits to other schools, sign, and that's just to get them on campus. Which sets the precedent for expectations once they're here. I respect it. We won a championship not doing that stuff. It makes it mean more then if ohio buys one with a bunch of mercenaries who could give two shits about the state of ohio or its university.

He's serious...but even if he wasn't, with two NCAA investigations hanging over his new coach, you really think he's going to say, "all bets are off, we're now ready to build our own salary cap."

Portal transfers are a much different critter than High School Recruits.  With Portal transfers, they have a track record in college.  You know how they performed on the field.  You have some idea of how they interacted with their team, what kind of team mates they are.

And we have seen with players like Penix and Nix how they can transform an entire program.

There are some key Portal transfers that you should absolutely go after, even knowing that you are likely going to get into a de-facto NIL bidding war.  It is naive to act otherwise.

If a university program goes to all of the trouble to have an effective recruiting office and staff, they need to go to the trouble to make sure they are supported by an effective NIL program.

I have come to learn that nobody reads these damn articles anymore because Warde explicitly says he fully supports the cooperatives and will help them support players but he's not going to just pay guys to come to UM, a position the former staff held and based on results sure seems more sustainable than whatever BS Miami  and A&M have tried.

But again, Warde sucks at everyrhing apparently.

I'm old enough to remember when this placed LOVED Dave Brandon and thought he had a massive pimp hand.  And then nothing bad ever happened and that relationship was very healthy and beneficial for all involved.

The Warde hate around here has always struck me as weird because the stuff I'd be fine firing him over - how he seemingly tried to hide Mel Pearson's actions and retain him, the Mark Rosen situation, even how people have felt about how he's handled situations like the Schemmy hiring and the Anderson case - don't really seem to register with anyone.  But Juwan Howard losing way too basketball games in years 4-5 and Jim Harbaugh yet again not getting along with someone in authority are treated as his moral failings.

I don’t think Warde expects to change anything ever. His preference has always been the path of least effort. Status Quo is his top choice in most circumstances.

I get that this approach aligns with the culture that has been built.  But, it is silly to expect people to turn down life changing money to be part of a good culture.  They need to find a way to up the NIL game in a way that builds the culture.

The FannMan

Can talk about anyone else.  I’m referencing examples like Dante Moore and the DE who recommitted and went to Miami where up-front NIL seemed to be decisive.  You could also look at what OSU is doing in the portal.  Not saying we need to do that exactly, but I think we need to move in that direction while preserving the culture.

Having been in leadership positions myself (granted, on a much smaller scale), I try to make a habit of not immediately questioning another leader’s actions.  I’ve learned through personal experience, that we can’t possibly be privy to the many factors driving the decision process for that individual. I’ve been in the not so fun position of having my actions questioned by others who couldn’t possibly be aware of the reasons for why that was the best decision in that certain instance.  In this way, leading others can many times be a tough thing, as we are often presented with two options, neither of which are great for everyone.  I guess what I’m saying is that being the leader of an organization is difficult work.

All that said, can we dump this guy already?  He sucks.

Anything defending Warde is an unpopular opinion these days. But here I go. It's wise for the program to handle NIL with as many layers of gloves as possible. It's still very much the wild west, and the program doesn't need any more of the NCAA's eyes looking at it. That said the idea of Michigan promising players X amount of money from ready made NIL deals is repulsive to me. I have no problem with athletes making money off their own NIL deals, but the the university itself should not be involved unless an athlete made an NIL deal that reflects poorly on the team, and the university or was actually illegal.
