Trump/no Trump

Which rule do you prefer in Euchre? Can someone be allowed to call "no trump"? I personally think it takes away from the challenge of the game, but maybe that's just me ?‍♂️

Yeah, when I read the title, I said to myself "I hope this thread is about Bridge and not politics!". I've been playing bridge since I was in elementary school--my parents played and I wanted to learn. In college we had a regular 10 p.m. Bridge study break on weeknights, with about 7 or 8 regulars so there were always enough people around to play four or five hands. But it's hard to keep track of all 52 when you're under the influence, so on weekends we devolved to Euchre, Hearts, or Uno.

It’s been 25 years since I played, but I think it means there’s no trump suit. High card wins. You want to do this if you don’t have a strong suit. In a screw the dealer situation, the dealer can still name a trump suit.

Personally, I prefer pinochle. It’s much more of a challenge holding all those cards in your hand. I thought I knew everything about pinochle until my friend from Kentucky taught me double-deck pinochle. One hand takes a half hour to play.

It is a fairly obscure rule that allows a player to call a misdeal or exchange some of their cards for the excess cards when they have no trump cards at the beginning of a hand. The game has an incredible amount of variations. Did you know those fuckers in Ohio use 6's and 4's to keep score? The idiocy in Ohio never ceases to amaze me. Once upon a yesteryear I ran a few euchre tournaments a year and would hear about all the crazy variations.

This is a great post and everybody knows it. The Trump/no Trump rule is huge, a tremendous question really, and there's good people on both sides.  All the best people are working on this, really a big, huge, beautiful question.  It's a perfect question really - you know it, I know it, everybody knows it.
